I doubt they said he was lazy as he’s been injured for virtually two years. He tried in January to play and he broke down again with and was out for another 10 weeks.

I just had a look at his Wiki page and under style of play it said:-

Walker is a pacey and athletic forward.[70] Danny Cowley nicknamed him "the Ghost" for his ability to appear from nowhere to score a goal.[61] He is a natural finisher, however, his work rate has been criticised.[61]

I'd take issue with the "natural finisher" comment, as we didn't see much of that here.
His stats certainly suggest he's lower league standard, so he's found his level.
He's definitely been unlucky with injuries though tbf.

Think a bit more luck with injuries and maybe a few more opportunities with us and he could have been a half decent Championship striker

Im on about first season as thats when he was 23 still young (turned 24)

For me the whole starting games thing is becoming an excuse which we still see now really . If a player scored a goal in those 30 minutes we'd use them in his stats (including those games started )
A striker coming off the bench against tired legs should be raring to go and not just that ready to prove a point .

Then obviously Vik came no chance then.
First season with us 1 goal every 258 minutes is not a bad return for a 23 year old stepping up a division playing in a system that doesnt suit him.
Season after was limited on appearances but the emergence of Vik didnt help that.
Same goes for his final year with us.
Most of his appearances were 15/20 minute max spells, tell me how a striker regains confidence whilst barely being on the pitch to score a goal

For the purpose of this argument , godden scored 32 goals in 80 starts in the championship and worked tirelessly off the ball .. looking back now it would appear we never made a mistake with walker

But really he was 3rd choice in the end

Yet apparently we were sufficiently dazzled by the legendary reputation of Des Walker to sign a totally shit player with no potential.

But I think some players definitely get help at an earlier age because of who their dad's are irrespective of overall ability .

None of the players mentioned so far amounted to anything in their careers for the simple reason they weren’t very good.

Pele's and Maradona's sons were professionals. Never really mad either big. I think one of Pele's was a goalkeeper I think.

This is a bit harsh on Walker I think. His goals helped keep us up on our first season back in the Championship.

That’s exactly my point - there’s only so much any professional player can trade off their dad’s name. If it was all about nepotism he’d get to play way above his ability level. Instead he was just a useless player with a shocking career as you said.

In that I agree too because in no way is he a championship level player now, but he definitely could have been if he never came to us or was managed better

Considering people wanted us to sign Langstaff from Notts County last season and Tyler Walker’s record in L2 was fantastic, it wasn’t a bad signing at the time.

For whatever reason, he didn’t get look in after a decent first season with us. His career before joining us was pretty good so I would describe him as a nepo-baby.

His career has just gone downhill and that’s happened to many players. Tom Bayliss, Luke and George Thomas to name a couple of recent examples.

I remember Lincoln fans saying how lazy he was in the second spell he had there, he only lasted a handful of games, which was a surprise as he had his best run of scoring with them in the first spell, and they thought he'd pick up where he left off.

No of course not but he’s only played a handful of games since going back there because he’s been injured most of the time.

There was a turf war between the Godden and Walker camps.

Godden had his undesirable moments, but was unquestionably the better choice. Those in the other camp wouldn't, and still look like they won't, accept any criticism. Given now he's effectively playing non-league, it's quite funny seeing just how far some will go.

Without question Godden was the better player but he’s playing at that level as he’s been out injured for so long. If he stays injury free he’ll be back playing in the football league.
