On Danny Bakers radio show this morning it featured the question of who have you unexpectedly seen while on holiday or away from your home etc ? Not necessarily a famous person, just a surprise encounter. It made me recall the time I was on a break in North Wales a few years ago. I was on a camp site with my son and got up early so I could go for a walk on a nearby beach, it was very secluded and hardly anybody went there, only a few local dog walkers. Anyway as I was walking and enjoying the early fresh sea air, a couple of people came past me and to my amazement he was wearing a Cov City shirt. I was that surprised to see a fellow City fan in a remote part of Wales I just nodded to them both, and carried on walking. Any similar encounters ?

My sister in law (Russkie) caught a flight from Moscow and was talking to an English actor. She didn't know who he was, but they chatted all flight and he talked about the movie he was in.

When she got to England I tried to work out who it was from her description of his age and looks etc.

Turns out it was Michael Caine.

Not a lot of people know that.

I was in the Old Crown on Windmill Road a few years back playing pool with my son and his mates. When one of them said the boxer Ricky Hatton is in the bar.I thought he said he was on the telly fighting in a bout, but no it was Hatton himself. He was on his way to Brum for some show and as he knew the gaffer of the pub stopped off for a drink. As a boxing fan I got his autograph and he seemed a decent bloke. He had some heavies with him though, and we all watched as he left the boozer and got in a stretch limo !

Was working in a backpackers hostel in San Diego, thought I was getting away with being the other side of the world. Walked down the stairs one morning and someone shouted my name. I ignored it as I didn't recognise the voice so just assumed they were calling someone else. They then shouted my surname and I turned around and it was two people I went to school with in Kenilworth.

Couldn't fucking believe it.

Seen Ricky Hatton at the big weekend last week. He wouldn’t take photos with anyone and seemed a right old nasty piece of work.

This was about 10 years ago in the pub. I read in the paper he suffers with depression and has problems etc. But he may have had a bad day last week ? But he should never forget his fans.

Barmouth way?

Anyway, Glenn Hoddle and his daughters sat down at the table next to us when we were on holiday in Rome. Can't remember which pizza he went for :(

Landed in Melbourne November 2010, 21 years old first time away on my own.
Hadn’t really settled after 4 days jetlag, people in my hostel room not mixing Chinese and Swedish all in their own cliques (as it turned out only hostel room in my travels I didn’t instantly hit it off with) genuinely thought about throwing the towel in.
Anyway back home it was -6 and next morning Channel 9 news is on in the social area doing a piece on weather in UK lad sat near me we gave each other that look of “glad we’re here” he says “where you from?” “I say Coventry, you?” He replies “Cov” and just looks back at the screen.
Obviously I pestered for more info he was couple of years older we had about 8 mutual friends on Facebook.
He’s made mates with people in his room they soon joined and hit it off with them all and the rest is history!

Must be an Australian thing as me and my two mates had flew into Oz after two months in Thailand and were walking around some shopping centre when we bumped into a lad who used to work behind the bar in the Devon (Simon I think but CovStu will know for sure).

Funny thing is something similar had also happened in Thailand. My mate knew a lad who used to drink in the Craven who had a bar in Thailand but had no idea where. Anyway we were in this little town called Kanchanabui and my mate was a love sick puppy at the time always phoning home to his bird so as he made his way off to the phone box me and my other mate just bodded into the nearest bar. As we were walking in there was a few people outside and one went ‘alright lads’ and as we walked into the bar I turned to my mate and said I know that lad and as we started ordering a drink I looked on the walls and it was covered in pictures of Highfield Road, Cov shirts etc.

Walk back outside and my mates finished his call and is hugging the geezer who said alright lads and obviously it’s the lad from the Craven. Now this bar was a tiny bar on a street of bars in a small town that we were literally going to stay in for a day (we ended up staying a week) so the odds of us going in would have been slim if it weren’t for the fact that my mate wasn’t a lovesick fool!!

When I was in the Army I was based in N.Ireland for just over 3 years. On one occasion on a night out I bumped into somebody I recognised from around Coventry, gave them the obligatory nod and thought nothing until I seen another. Lad I knew from Tile Hill. Then, now paying attention I saw tonnes of people wearing Blaze shirts. Less of a coincidence than I thought but still odd when I think about it

When I was about 15 I was in Lanzarote. I walked past someone in our resort who tapped me on my shoulder and said “how’s the leg?”. I looked at him a bit weirdly and he said “you’re from Cov and snapped your tib about 4 years ago”. It was the porter that took me to the plaster room. No idea how he remembered me.

I know the bloke you're on about from the Craven. Gez Tracy. He's been there for years now and became a father for the first time last year. Loads of Cov lads go over to drink in his bar, its very popular with Coventrians.

I was on a plane flying from New York to Orlando, Florida and the crew that were making the film "Jaws" (can't remember which one), were on the same plane.

The DeNiro and Jaws one had me thinking.

I think I told this story before and it wasn't quite a bumping into you story, but a big surprise one with a star.

My daughter worked on a film (different title at the time, so just a working title).

She was just 10 at the time. I just dropped her off in London and left her for the day.

Picked her up at the end of the day, asked her how it went and she said fine. Then asked her what she did and she said she just stood in a furniture shop looking at beds all day.

I asked if she met anyone famous and she said no and said she just had to pretend she was looking at beds all day with a family and was told to just keep looking at the beds, facing the same way all the time. She didn't understand why she wasn't allowed to turn around, but just did as she was told. A sales assistant was showing them round.

Anyway, the film came out and it was Grimsby with Sacha Baron-Cohen and the scene was Sacha Baron-Cohen having sex on a bed in a furniture store.

It's the opening scene from the film and you can see my daughter in the background. She was therefore there all day looking at beds while behind her and in the foreground of the scene, Sacha Baron-Cohen spent the whole of the day's shoot having fake sex with a female actress, with my daughter completely oblivious as to what was going on.

I still haven't let her see it yet.

There was a famous magician decades ago called David Nixon. My mum was shopping in town when some people stopped and shouted " look there's him of the telly " It was David Nixon,he was on at Coventry Theatre. My mum loved seeing someone off the television, and he was the Paul Daniels of his day.

Went into a pub in Leamington last Monday night and bumped into the Coventry football team. I didn' recognise anyone but the wife said they had won some cup thing in London earlier that day.

A court me of weeks back I was on the Isle of Wight and walked into Fowler’s in Ryde and there was a lad with Ccfc shirt and scarf on. Didn’t say anything as I was out with a customer, but he was more into ccfc than lads around here.

Just saw Ponticelli driving his Corsa? Does that count?

Ironically, just outside where I saw Coop last night.

We used to go on holiday to Cornwall every summer holiday. Usually St Ives, because that was our favourite bit, giving easy access to the Lizard, Penzance, Land's end etc (my goodness, I miss the chocolates from Mullion!)

One year we went to catch the fireworks over at Land's End. It was pretty rammed, being the height of summer. But as we walked around, a familiar face kept out of the crowd at us....

...it was only the owner of our local shop!

I wouldn't be getting much work done if I was down that way tomorrow in this weather. That's for sure. Beach, Ice Cream, paddle, oops look at the time. Time for home. Better come back tomorrow to "finish off"

I was in Los Angeles in 2014 round a pool at my hotel. Some couple over heard my accent and came up to me and asked if I was from Coventry. Turned out they lived on a road a couple of minutes away from me. It was so strange
