If he is installed before Saturday then I hope he doesn't get a hard time against Sheffield United. Despite not really being too enamoured at the thought of him being manager I wouldn't want to hear "There's only one Mark Robins" ringing out from the terraces. It's not his fault that Robins was sacked. Those of us who went to Sunderland did that and we made our feelings known to the owner.

If the rumours are true then he should be backed.
This - we have to get behind him or those that carp are hypocrites

He also mentioned out home form going back to last season did he not?

He might have done, but the overriding reason was that this setup wasn’t working. And this setup started in the summer. Any reasonable person taking what King said as gospel would assume last season was down to having two leaders in the process of a breakup. You’ve got to start the timer at whatever replaces them.

Robins in my opinion was exposed tactically. I’m not the only one to say it. It might be very different for him if he had Adi by his side but who knows. He’s gone so need to accept that.
Exposed? Yes, who was the other person I remember using that word... It's amazing how far Doug's smear job on Robins has perpetuated. I've heard Coventry fans and fans of other clubs telling me 'it was all Adi! It fell apart after he left.'

The data shows the tactics were fine. On chances created/conceded we should be firmly top 6 right now. Couple of newbies have snatched at some shots and we have conceded a high number of wonder goals and individual errors. Robins changed shape to try and compensate for those errors and picked up results.

Things were never as bad as people made out. If the new guy just picks up were Robins left off we should do just fine.

And the end to last season... and probably the start of last season was playing on his mind after it all too. Robins had shown, since spending a large wedge of money, that he is capable of going on long runs of extremely poor form. You don't get where you want by doing that. King had lost confidence in him and decided that you can't simply rely on 'we've turned it around before'. It was becoming unacceptable and was inevitable he'd pay the price.

Who he now picks is a completely separate issue. As i said there are others i'd prefer but i'll back Lamps and feel he could do ok.
The things I would do now to have a manager who's proven that he's 'turned it around before'. 😥

I don't really care for arguing about why Robins was sacked anymore tbh, its boring.

I’m laying all my concerns out in one post it probably comes off as a lot. But there’s layers to the reasons I don’t want Lampard.

I hope if it’s him I’m totally wrong and he galvanises this squad. We are a play off quality side just lacking some form looking at all the stats. It shouldn’t take much to get us purring if whoever comes in has some basic tactical knowledge and can motivate this deck.
I get that, don’t think he was the golden goose for anyone but personally don’t think he’s as bad as Rooney or Zola.

Think there’s potential for him here and he’ll be able to get in some good quality coaching staff to help us out and hopefully get our younger lads developing to a good standard.

Either way hopefully he can get the deck moving

You started it! I was just saying if Redknapp is advising King then he might have leant more towards pulling the trigger when asked.
We know from a couple of people he met up with Big Sam. So plausible he’s asked a couple for advise including Redknapp who wasn’t a bad manager in his day.

Think he also met up with a couple of prem owners in his words

Because we were fucking awful.

I haven't said he is? I just pointed out people are being hysterical because robins has gone.
Your 'Time's up' thread after 10 league games said 'Time for a new manager before it's too late'. To me, that was when people started getting hysterical.

The new guy is going to need more patience and perspective than that, and let's hope he gets it.

It wasn't hysterical though, was it?

The issue wasn't just 10 league games. It's not hard to understand that.

Lampard does not fit the brief that King set out. Nothing in his work to date or from what anyone has to say about him to suggest he's an 'elite tactician'. Will be massively disappointed if it's him.

I guess it also depends on who he brings with him.

Think this is fair. Would look like Lampard would be a manager and not a head coach. But assume he would bring in a head coach so would almost fulfill the model we had with Robins and Adi but with Jody Morris being the number 2.

Why not just hire Morris then? Club statement talked about a structure, a Head Coach, taking our time etc. You need a 'Leader' and Morris maybe isn't that, or doesn't want to be, and I accept the role title is largely to make clear transfers etc. aren't a one man show, but I'm not convinced that it wouldn't just be the name we're hiring.

If King and co. can't be consistent with what they say with the actions they take, I'll be worried. Taking your argument fwd, there's got to be wiser ways to spend our budget than hiring Lampard because he comes with a good coach in Morris. Just do what we do with players; find value, make decisions based on evidence.

People also need to get out of the mentality that we "sacked Robins for X".

King sacked Robins because he no longer believed he was the right man for the job.

In which case the person he brings in needs to be better than Robins.

To say Lampard is that person seems ridiculous to me. There's still mostly a faction of people who wanted Robins out that are trying to have a pop at other people for 'overreacting' at this statement. Of course it can work out, and we hope it does, but on paper it looks like a dreadful decision if it is indeed true.

I suppose you have to go all in though, as if this fails those on the Robins out train will look very silly.

I thought the way Dean Austin explained it was that the head coach / Robins would set the criteria for the type of player that was needed. Austin and his team would source one and then head coach / Robins agrees or not.
Boddy has described it like that in the past. Robins and the coaching team would decide on types of players needed rather than individuals. The scouting and recruitment team would then find a player that fit those requirements.

Suspect when we're told Robins had the final say it was more that he could veto a particular player if there was something he didn't like rather than he was coming up with lists of target players.

Iv not kept pace with this. So

King is friends with Redknapp who in turn is uncle to Frank Lampard what = Lampard installed as head coach. Cant wait for Jamie Redknapp to be head of fitness.

If what we want is the brains, why hire Lampard just to get that from someone who he's mates with. That's the point I'm making. Why replace MR with two?

There's got to be someone we can find that has the tactical skills we want and can show themselves to be enough of a leader that we can just hire them.

Im not angry. Im disappointed.

Appointing Lampard suggests a lot of worrying things about our owner, not least that he’s advised by Harry fucking Redknapp. I think we’ve fucked it and I think you’d dug into robins out so much you’d have the Andy Thorn scarf out now if he was appointed.

We have the fundamentals of a PO team, we have good form against good teams in recent matches, that’s the base any new manager is starting from.

I’ll judge Lampard at the end of the season if it’s him but I don’t see a top half finish under him as likely and a complete melt down of the changing room attitude a distinct possibility as well as frittering of all our remaining transfer kitty as a distinct possibility.

Why would being advised by Harry Redknapp be a bad thing?

Sure there's a conflict of interest between Redknapp wanting Lampard to get the job but it's hardly a stretch that he would be in the frame if Redknapp wasn't advising. It's not like Doug's appoint Redknapp's cleaner because she left his windows streak free.

Redknapp has been in and around the pro game for 50 years and been very successful during that period, or would you rather he listened to the Mad hatters because they've been watching football once a week for 50 years?
