If what we want is the brains, why hire Lampard just to get that from someone who he's mates with. That's the point I'm making. Why replace MR with two?

There's got to be someone we can find that has the tactical skills we want and can show themselves to be enough of leader that we can just hire one person.

It isn't just who he;s mates with, isn't it the overall "team".

That's if we even hire Lampard and from then if we even hire Morris. Impossible to say.

Why would being advised by Harry Redknapp be a bad thing?

Sure there's a conflict of interest between Redknapp wanting Lampard to get the job but it's hardly a stretch that he would be in the frame if Redknapp wasn't advising. It's not like Doug's appoint Redknapp's cleaner because she left his windows streak free.

Redknapp has been in and around the pro game for 50 years and been very successful during that period, or would you rather he listened to the Mad hatters because they've been watching football once a week for 50 years?

It was only last week the people saying he knows Redknapp and being angry about it were making out King is doing it all off his own back and taking advice from "some woman".

How do you know 1) the interview process hasn't sought to test tactical knowledge and 2) that Lampard definitely does not have it

Almost expecting Van Nistelrooy to be announced today after some of the hogwash that has made it to this forum over the last few weeks.

I'd rather they really did take their time and scour Europe for a young coach. Other teams have done it, successfully too.

It seems every buzz word and phrase King used, "elite", "take our time", etc has been jettisoned for the first big name that comes along.

King has spent a fortune getting a supposed 'elite' structure in place, only to hand it to Lampard. Weird.

Seems pretty clear now from all the online reporting that King is being closely advised by Baron Harkonnen and that’s why he’s chosen Fayn-Rautha as the next head coach. Total disaster appointment imo, got an absolutely terrible win ratio when it comes to spice farming and has almost no experience on Arrakis.

I don't know, I'm saying I don't see any evidence from his work anywhere he's been that he - or his team - are the 'elite tactician(s)' we said we need and want. If you can find me something that says otherwise then I'm all ears because if it is him, I'd like some reassurance! He doesn't come across well to me. Results are mixed at best. Fans don't speak highly of him. He's been out of work for a while. I don't see enough clear upsides to make it feel like anything but a lazy hire.

This. It wouldn't make sense at all.

Glossu Rabban would have been a far better appointment. Proven track record and greater level of experience.

Lampard does not fit the brief that King set out. Nothing in his work to date or from what anyone has to say about him to suggest he's an 'elite tactician'. Will be massively disappointed if it's him.

Exactly this. If King wants to make a big thing about bringing in someone to fit in within the existing structures, and then hires Lampard, then he's having us on, frankly.

As for 'get behind Frank if he joins', why bother? It's entirely likely he'll just be the first in a string of temporary managers if this is Doug's new strategy.

I'll get behind the team, obviously, but I don't feel obliged to sing "Fat Frank's Sky Blue Army", until he's earned it.

So would Pep but I don't think either were in the running.

Why has Frank been out of work so long? Has he spent more time in punditry or has he been studying to be an elite tactical genius?

Where's that bloke that said he had it on good authority Van Nistelrooy was joining? I need a follow up to this.

Don’t think Lampard's that bad an option but hard to be enthused partly because it looks like it was already planned. If true the whole scenario looks staged managed.
Hard to say it was stage managed if we’re almost two weeks on from MR’s sacking without any sign of an appointment yet.

Just hope they get on and announce it now. Give him the week to work with the players leading into what will be a tough game.
What makes it look stage managed? What am I missing?

I can't keep up.

Experienced when compared to whom? This seems to be based on a list of three people, who may or may not have been interested, and discounts the rest of the football world.

If Lampard's appointment is true, it smacks of, 'no plan, let's panic'.
Literally all the candidates linked with the job. Including people like; Keane, Rowett, Skubala, Eustace, Bloomfield, Rosenior.

Take your pick from the names off of this list.
