King doesn't know why a number two was never brought in..he conveniently skipped over that in his interview with talksport.
I don't trust King one little bit.
Exactly, based on what he's saying, if he's telling the complete truth without misleading, he rates Robins, but because we couldn't find an assistant manager we had no choice but to sack a loyal, proven successful manager of 7 years (people are taking for granted how fucking rare that is), to just start again with a shit or bust gamble on a new manager and assistant/head coach and Director of Football.

It's bullshit, he wanted Robins out for whatever reason. He either isn't at liberty to say, or is too embarrassed because the reasoning is bullshit/corrupt/stupid etc.

Either way, it's a much smaller risk and we're less likely to get relegated persisting with the search for an assistant to Robins than to rip it up and start again with someone like Lampard 😳

Anyone else not going to be surprised if these two also leave the club?

Edit: 100 pages. Wow.
I would fully expect both to leave the club to be fair. I don't think Doug was too glowing of them in his press conference, and think if there's an opportunity for a full reset we'll do it.

Won't need paying off due to how long they've been with us, so that will be relatively cheap. He'll just need to stump up the cash for what Lampard wants

I would imagine there’s some non trivial discussions regarding a coaching restructure, transfer and wage budgets for January, likely targets etc etc to be ironed out.

Get it done right rather than quickly.
There’s no rush at this stage, don’t think it makes much difference when he’s announced as long as it’s before next Wednesday.

This was our league form since the Wolves win, I'd completely forgotten we had lost consecutive league games in the lead up to the FA cup semiView attachment 39629
Well yep and the squad was too small and the players were fatigued at the end of last season.

That set of results don't surprise me one little bit

This season has been more worrying, because I honestly thought we would come flying out of the blocks following a good pre-season.

I've corrected, still not great reading.
Last 3 from last season were nothing games, I remember I was surprised Ipswich didn't beat us more easily considering they needed the points so badly and we didn't. Ironically the last 4 games under Robins was our best period.

Exactly. They WERE nothing games.

You simply have to take that into consideration when doing a scrutinization and analysis of the result sequence.

The squad was too small, the players were exhausted and we had nothing to play for.

You have to take that into account.

And fine margins in the other games. Should have won at Watford. Goal disallowed at Preston. Some performances were poor but some results down to bad luck/poor referee decisions. Sure that would have evened itself out over the coming months.

100% agree.

And for how blatantly and visibly dead on our feet we were against Hull, who needed the points too, days after taking United to extra time in an FA Cup semi final, we still gave them a close game and only lost 3-2 somehow. I remember Bobby Thomas could barely run halfway through that game, but we had no one else to come on.

Even when we've been far from our best against teams who need points, the margins have been slim in every game above bar Leeds away this season, and the implosion V Blues before the Semi final. Can definitely point some criticism at that game switching off before the Semi, but I guess it's human nature and there's little you can do to stop that before arguably the biggest game some of those players will ever play.

As soon as King did the supporters thing and pretty much slated Robins, so many on here took everything he said as gospel.

Immediately after that, the unpicking of Robins' achievements started.

It was we have been shit for 6 months. Then it was 9 months, even 12 months, then it was all down to Adi, not Robins etc.

People aren't trying to rewrite history, but they are also not taking into account all the circumstances. I.e. That we were running on empty at the end of the season and the poor form was very much linked to that.

I am not saying King lied, but I would also say I can't believe everything he said was the truth. Two sides and all that.

Anyway, people seem to have forgotten just how fatigued the players were and even though there was very little to play for, have focused on how crap we were at the end of the season. There is a clear correlation between the two.

I am most certainly not defending him to the end of the earth, but at times it's been a bit like a character assassination since King spoke.
I do get what you are saying, and I strongly agree Robins should be acknowledged by ALL as one of our greatest mangers ever.

But I struggle with the running on empty excuses we continually hear with regard to the end of last season. These are professional sportsmen and they should be capable of playing this amount of matches. It really is not that exceptional. What seemed clear to me is they collectively didn’t have the mental strength to see out the season. Whether some had decided we couldn’t get into playoffs and were planning their beach breaks or whether some just did not have a winning mentality Or whether stuff going on in the dressing room had an impact, I don’t know, but I do know we should have finished stronger and had more fight.

Yeah, I do agree to a degree, but it's a well-known thing throughout football. That of running on empty, or already on the beach

It shouldn't be the way, but it does happen and always has.

This is elite sport. Of course they are all capable of playing this amount of matches. But, against other elite sports teams, the margins are so slim, and 1% less fatigue can make all the difference. When you have a fatigued Bobby Thomas running on empty against Hull 3 days after playing 120 minutes in the biggest game of his career, with no backup to replace him with, it's a miracle we only lost 3-2 against playoff rivals Hull. Losing that game pretty much ended our playoff hopes.

Again, the fine mental margins of not needing points against Ipswich who desperately needed them for promotion was probably the difference in the slender 2-1 nothing (for us anyway) defeat against Ipswich.

Against Southampton away, one of the best teams in the division, we missed a penalty early on, and a horrendous goalkeeper error, resulting in a slender 2-1 defeat away from home.

The only one from last season you can deservedly throw shit at is the Birmingham away implosion, but again, we aren't the first team to take our eye off the ball for one game when we have the biggest game of many of the players careers coming up, against a team fighting for their lives.
