When Dr Roberts was recruited, it was substantiated by the rationale that she would be able to find “that hidden one or two percent” that could be the key factor in us elevating ourselves and get over the line where historically we had fallen just short.

It was referenced she had a psychology background and would ensure players emotionally were better prepared in-game and for season defining moments.

She would be working with the sports scientists to ensure nutrition was on point. Again helping us to find those small differentials over the season

She would work on recruitment to ensure ‘the right type of characters’ were brought into the club.

Taking pure misogyny out of it. She would have had KPI’s and targets in her role. She was brought in to elevate performance, and we have stalled. And her key remit, to make those small differences for us, clearly hasn’t happened. And with that, her position absolutely needs to be under scrutiny.
Our performance has not measurably improved.

We have conceded first every single game in living memory. Clearly now a psychological issue for players.
Clearly unhappy signs in the camp, Robins referenced Dovin coming across to the country young and not being emotionally fully ready. Again areas of pre-screening i would have expected her role to capture.

Our players look KNACKERED in every single game this season. Doug can spout stats at us about perceived improvements, but absolutely no evidence of that on the pitch.

So the same as Robins was ultimately found to be the most accountable, and lost his job for it. All others involved absolutely needs to be equally scrutinised
No evidence? We've scored the joint most late goals in the EFL (10)...

King at his conference clear has scrutinised things which is why he's defended Dr Roberts and publicly praised her work using data metrics on fitness.

The wider fanbase would rather scrutinise everyone and everything before scrutinising Robins. Robins was the most influential figure at the club in his time with us and the buck ends with him on the pitch and off it. Before the revelations from King's conference about AV's departure and the coaching restructure, the narrative was that this was King and Dr Roberts doing. As it happens, it was mostly (if not all), our very own Mark Robins and that cost him his job because the staff appear not to be at the standard required (MR's own words) and that exposed Robins.

It hurts to think it, but sacking MR may have been the right choice.

Well bloody said. The club has stalled since March and to suggest that recruitment/performance/defensive coaches or managers cannot be questioned as Doug King says they’re great, is laughable.

People are defending Doug King and other staff just on the basis of King’s flimsy word and that they’re not SISU.

Virtually every player signed under King has been shit. How is it unreasonable to question Dean Austin?

The tracksuits are dark blue because Lampard was lined up in the summer 😮 🤯

You can only sanction what’s put in front of you and the quality of signings dipped noticeably when Austin took over.
Have they though?
McNally (loan), MVE, Sakamoto, Haji Wright, Bassette are all decent signings. Bobby Thomas was worth a punt, Dovin has potential.

The first team signings in the transfer window before Austin joined - Palmer, Doyle (loan), Panzo (loan), Adamarola (loan) the season before we had Bright, Kane, Waghorn, Cashman as well as Sheaf and Gyokeres

You just make things up in your head and say them like they are facts. It’s so strange

King has said the saying about coming across his desk in two interviews now, regarding the lack of a decent assistant manager being appointed and the player recruitment process.

it’s not strange, you haven’t done your research before commenting.

Given how poor the keepers are I get the Aled Williams stick, but I really don't get the vitriol about Dr Roberts and Dean Austin. Ones head of sports science so manages the physio's, data analysts, etc, and the other just looks after the scouts, Robins sanctioned every signing.
I'm being very careful what I say here because I agree with King's view that some of the things written are disgraceful but I actually thought at the fans forum he got dangerously close to throwing them both under the bus with Robins.

I do think people here seem to be confusing Robins having a final veto over signing players with assuming that he had absolute/a high level of control over recruitment. In reality no manager has that nowadays. Doug has made it very clear that he thinks the recruitment has been excellent. He isn't crediting Robins with that.

And that last two sentences is what is making it so hard to have any faith in DK anymore. All of our defenders, other than MVE who is heading that way, are shit, and were far too light in centre midfield and he’s groaning how many midfielders do you want 8 or 9 - as highlighted by a poster on the DK thread.

Yeah but we were working with less. The variability was higher but so was the top end of the quality.

Of the money signings only Walker didn’t really come off and a few came off in a big way.

We seem to consistently spend a lot to get not much under Austin. The window before was one we were unusually skint in, wasn’t it the window Hyam was sold for the pitch?

but think of it positioned in literally any other line of work

say you worked in Sales, let’s say a car dealership.

Your car dealership hired someone specifically to improve the performance of the sales people. That person would help hire the sales people. Rigorously screen them to make sure the right people were brought in to sell cars. And their role would be focussed on enhancing the performance of the sales team. They’d be doing motivational team talks, making sure the sales team were eating and sleeping clean, as to maximise performance.

If that Sales team subsequently didn’t perform and started making less sales than before the performance lead joined the business, That Performance manager would have their head on the block, and rightly so.

He was in a press conference, he was under pressure, he said some things and I do think it is best not to dwell on them. Tbh, it would probably be pretty unprofessional to be 100% honest, he might well have omitted some things he felt were unfair on Robins or others and things that he felt were confidential/private. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have concerns about where the club is going but new manager in (tomorrow is it? ;) ). Let's just see how we go.

So if things were going better this season you’d be singing the praises of the performance director? That is rubbish.

The manager/head coach is the person principally responsible for the match results. They sign the players, train the squad, pick the team, the tactics and make in-game changes.

The ‘Performance Director’ owns the areas around S&C, nutrition and other areas that should get the players performing better. King is on record saying the players are ‘as fit as they’ve been’ and spoke about the developing the S&C suite at the training and so on.

If Lampard’s next 30 games is the same form as Robins, we all know there would be calls for his head. When it came to Robins, all of a sudden everyone but the manager is a scapegoat.

Robins signed off on all signings, changed the coaching structure, potentially hired under qualified coaches in place of AV, couldn’t work out his best team and the results suffered.

I trusted MR to figure things out, but it wasn’t a guarantee and things have clearly been moving backwards from last season. That’s on MR and because of success he had years gone by, fans overlooked this.

On balance Id have gone with Bloomfield but I'll back Franky boy 100%.
Looking forward to 3rd round FA cup draw over weekend.... we all know how we will be described!

Well here we are then. Never thought would be seeing a new manager this season.

Club/fans now must move on quickly and back him, regardless of what we think.

Big tick, I’ve been trying hard to be positive, is Lampard has to succeed or he’s probably done at top level - so hopefully that helps us.

squad need rocket up arse, yes we are in-balanced/need recruitment……but this group should be doing a lot better.

Finally king, you’ve made your bed now, this will define you. Im concerned, was quite happy with slow and steady progress - but also understand things change.

here’s to 3 points Saturday (must win game 😂 actually kinda is looking at table!)

The longer this has gone on, my excitement has gone up. I seriously now think Frank could do a great job for us and turn us around. I am sure he will have negotiated his way into being able to do what he needs with incomings in January and has excellent contacts to lean on and the pull for a good back room staff. Give him a serious go. MR was brilliant for us, but I seriously think he reached his ceiling.

Let’s hope that today in the today, was reading the article on Lampard earlier from Sky, it’s posted in the discussion I believe, this is a massage moment for our football club as well as for Lampard himself.

Whether you believe it was right or wrong to part with Robins, his boots are massive ones to fill as he achieved so much and got so much public and professional recognition for doing so. Frank is now coming in and expected to kick us on quickly with an expectation to take us onto the next level.

Strap in and enjoy the ride everyone!

Hearing that the delay was because Frank doesn't want to take the difficult games (like Burnley, Sheff U etc) so they were working out a deal for Rhys to take all games against the top half and Frank steps in for games against the bottom half. He's conscious of his 9% win ratio at Chelsea and needs to get his numbers on the rise again.

utter fucking bullshit
Id give up. There’s a mass lack of understanding of the roles in an elite sporting environment.

as we’ve only just caught up with the rest of the modern football world it’s causing distress to the fans that can’t move past a manager and an assistant manager getting 11 blokes to just run blood and guts for each other rather than actual ability

start throwing sports scientist and data analysis and it’ll blow their minds

Let’s just pretend the people who disagree with me have an entirely different disagreement I can mock them for.

You aren’t some fucking megamind trying to explain fire to cavemen FFS.
