What also dont help in the circumstances, is when the police or government went public in the news the other week about how the prisons are full and we're gonna let criminals out early.

The rioters/looters will think fuck it what they gonna do attitude as there thick as fuck.
It was hardly something they could keep secret about.

I am a Humanist, I am against all kinds of organised religions, but everyone has the right to practice whatever religion they want without fear of harm. My opinion means no more than someone else's right to practice their religion.

If it costs a bit of money to protect people expressing themselves from factions who seek to remove that freedom, most of sound mind would agree it's a cost worth bearing, as I do.

Providing extra security for Mosques is going to be very difficult,1,500 in the UK....who will provide the security?....the police resources are already stretched to the limit.
Seems like a promise that's impossible to keep imo

This isn't the wild west where you make some people deputy sheriff. They have a right to protect their mosque, but only within the law and weapons are a no no. Let's hope the idiots attacking them have now got it out of their system, those that should be arrested are and it all quietens down again, but I can't support another lawless bunch, simply because some of their community have been wronged elsewhere. Along with the EDL they're two sides of the same coin.

Embarrassed to say where I live (Tamworth) made national headlines last night due to idiots trashing the town centre🤷‍♂️
Have been expecting something down here, but not happend yet. Reform got a large chunk of the vote here and we are so close to France and where the crossings occur

The Labour candidate won with 15,000 votes, but the Reform candidate got nearly 11,000 votes.

Its ugly on the residents FB forum group too at times, but luckily, there are so many lovely people here, to counter any arguments.

I describe it here as Cool, Bohemia meets The Hills Have Eyes.

I was sort of half expecting some trouble in these parts, but maybe now we have passed the point of where it could have all kicked off by now

Hoping it will all quell across the country, but not convinced it will be the case, unless we send the army in, or it rains.

mark my words…in the next 24 months we will have a war that we get properly involved with.

A nice big war with a common antagonist we can all unite against and forget all about our domestic anger and race conflicts, and before everyone wises up and realises who the real problem.

I’ll come back to this in two years :)

If you throw Tamworth and Solihull into the Birmingham region, is Coventry now the only big city in the England without any riots?

Let's keep it this way and stop anyone even attempting to organise something.

Tamworth is technically Staffordshire albeit falling under a B postcode

With regard to the earlier comments from the *former* counter-terrorism guy (no-one currently in post would be able to get away with openly criticising police tactics), the police response HAS been too passive. I saw a lengthy video (which was live-streamed at the time) of the original post-vigil riot in Southport, and when the police line moved towards the rioters with a bit of pace (and three dogs), they scattered and ran off like a bunch of schoolgirls. As Macca said, bit of tear gas and water cannon and it would be over in minutes.

The "full force of the law" is not in the gift of the police - it's the weak and woolly magistrates that need a kick up the backside. But the Rotherham refugee hotel incident is "arson with intent to endanger life" - this can carry a life sentence, if they wish to dole it out.

Yvette Cooper said on the radio this morning that other places of worship were to be protected too, including synagogues. It is in the budget, but it is private security firms, not police resource. See what the COBRA meeting this morning brings. I'd be in favour of curfews before the army being brought in. They wouldn't know how to control a crowd as well as the police do.

I hate to say it but once the local communities being persecuted mobilise and give these piss weak chavs a good hiding they will disappear back into their holes for a long time

I'm not convinced of that - i have a nasty feeling that would (possibly literally) inflame things.
Was it the sentences being handed down by the emergency courts during the 2011 riots that made people think twice? Or was it the rain??

Police tactics have been like England in the Euros. Stand back and invite them on. Yes there are some hardcore people involved but most are hangers on who will throw things at a static police line all night. Slightest danger of them getting anything back and they will be gone

It could go the wrong way but i think most of these lot are cowards who wouldnt come back the next night if they were at risk of someone fighting back. Mind you the plan probably is to provoke a reaction so you are probably right

Wouldn’t those members of local communities giving the chavs a good hiding be guilty of assault / ABH and therefore should feel the full weight if the law?

The biggest questions lie for the security forces, counter terrorism and maybe MI6.
This violent far right movement based around EDL, football gangs and fascist parties has been building for years.
Southport was bound to develop into a serious incident given what had happened with other riots. Instead of being ready to nip it on the bud they left a handful of local coppers to get battered, the thing to simmer and spread on social media.
They now need to quickly convict and jail for years some of the most violent as an example. And go after the ringleaders as a priority.
