Vik was great, and basically got us into the play offs last season. Once O’Hare was out for the season on Boxing Day , Robins made us more direct, and Vik was the man! He did play for himself, towards the end of the season though. Robins builds teams with good spirit, and I’m not sure Vik brought that, but I think the players knew with the injuries we had, the only way to win and go up the league was to play to his strengths.
Have to say offensively we are looking strong already for the seaso . Sheaf, Hamer, Allen, O’Hare, Rus. Palmer, Godden, Tavares and Simms.

Vik's attributes seemed pretty obvious to me right from the time of his loan spell, so I never really got the negativity. What a fantastic asset he has been at Championship level. But I can't help thinking the pendulum of opinion has swung too far the other way. People assumed there'd be a queue of Prem teams fighting for his signature, but that doesn't seem to have happened and given his limitations I'm not surprised. He will surely do well in that Portuguese league though. Buying Simms for only about a quarter of what we got for Vik looks like brilliant business to me, as he's young and looks capable of being at least as good a player. Time will tell.

Best all round forward to play for us at Championship level since premier league relegation ? Discuss

I'm talking performance wise at this level

Unplayable at times , like an old fashioned 9 , so hard to play against

Can't be any better ?
Best I've seen here since PL relegation , and was fantastic here for 2 seasons , this season he just went to another level .. Will smash Portugal I'm sure

What a price. Not a twinge of sadness when I read those figures.

He gets no more than 10 goals next season at Sporting.
Nah he'll fill his boots against 70% of the teams in that league. Smart move for him at this stage. Gives him a platform at a big club in an average league. Plenty of players have moved from Portuguese teams to massive clubs after a few good seasons. Good chance he'll get a big move in a season or two

It's €24m....that respected journo fell has reported it?
He’ll be €24m in the same way Simms will be £8m.
I know I’m coming from a place of speculation / ignorance, but there’s no way Sporting are paying €24m without a significant proportion of that being add ons or even wages thrown into the mix to inflate the impression of the deal.
Same way as we’re clearly not paying £8m for Simms for the same reasons.
Or maybe I’m just wrong and naively refuse to believe that we’re paying & receiving these sums!

Yes, some people are taking it as 24m plus add-ons, but it's probably including add-ons. Either way, we are paying quite a small fraction of it for Simms, who may not be quite so frighteningly direct, but has qualities I've never seen in Gyokeres.

Absolutely desperate to pretend he’s shit just because he’s left. Embarrassing.

No idea how you've got that from my post.

You can think he's one of our best players in 20 years and still think he won't go on to be successful.

If you've watched him for Sweden, you'll know what I mean. We devoted our entire playing style on him and it worked perfectly. If he's second choice, he won't be effective.

Like I say, bookmark it. Laugh at me if I'm wrong, but I'm not convinced he'll do as well in a bigger pond.

Who won the charity bet then?

Let's have a think about it.

@KenilworthSkyBlue is completely missing.
@SBT is praising the deal and hoping no one calls him out on the cuckold behaviour so long as he plays along and acts like it was always what he was going for.

Two weeks ago both were arrogantly telling others we would be business stupid to not take the first offer. We've since added about 7 million to that by simply knowing our and Gyökeres' value.

We could also go at @fernandopartridge and @shmmeee but I have a bit more respect for them so happy to leave them out of it for now.

Page 65-80 of this thread are absolute gold. It's bedwetting heaven. I would advise anyone to go and review before some of those posts get inevitably deleted.

At the end of the day we should have had a bit more respect for Gyökeres and how much he would be appreciated for other clubs. His development alone could now fund a proper squad that could get us to the PL. Shame on anyone who was willing to sell him at the first offer. I'll never take them seriously again.

Absolutely clueless. Have you ever had an opinion on here that wasn’t utter bollocks? They’re not paying 24m for him to be second choice. They’d have thoroughly scouted him so know all of his strengths and weaknesses. I think their scouts, coaches etc know more about how he will fit their style than you do

Sporting haven’t paid €20m for him to play second fiddle to anyone.

Yeah I’ll eat my humble pie. Though I thought he’d go for £17m and not £20m.

Agree with a lot of this but still think you should leave your fantasy with SBT being your cuck away from the forum..

How many do SL get at a home game? How ever many, its going to seem a bit quiet over there to what he's used to home and away here I would imagine.
