What’s the J-League like these days? Always remember it as a kid being one of the better emerging leagues.

Japanese xenophobia always meant a proper domestic league IIRC, and from afar the international team seems to be doing OK. Would much rather see leagues like than than the MLS and Saudi/Chinese leagues.
Didn't think I'd see you come out on the side of xenophobia this early in the morning, but I'm sold.

Japanese and South Korean players are very technical and hardworking. Their style would fit quite nicely into our style of play.

I saw something on Twitter a couple of week ago that said that K-League and the J-League are two of the most similar leagues stylistically to the Championship.

Would love to see us dip into that market, but I doubt it’s on our radar tbh.

All agent bollocks to drive a move to Lisbon I reckon. Pure guesswork but I think Vik fancies European football (and living probably) and doesn’t want to be sold to Wet Spam or whoever so has asked his agent to get it done.
I agree, I think he wants to play and be the main man. It's only English delusions about the PL that make everybody assume it's the place players want to be

Wouldn’t say it’s English delusions. It’s financially driven. You can earn the most money there, for now.

Can't believe people are clamoring for him to stay and then go on a free next season, this is such a cross roads for the club, it's clear despite doug and co bringing some stability off the field we aren't awash with cash, we have to sell him and reinvest for the long term future of the club

Absolutely. Gyokeres, his agent and every buying club know that Cov will have to sell. Which is why Doug King should have kept quiet.

Yeah Blackburn and Diaz should be a warning to everyone. People acting like if we don’t sell him we’re definitely going up.

Personal take on this saga:

Vik fancies the Sporting move. He's said previously he'd be open to other foreign leagues. Agent pushing that for him through social media. Sporting tried to get in early with a relative low ball offer which has rightly been batted away.

CCFC are waiting until the Premier League teams bid before deciding which to entertain. There's at least 5 reported to be interested and from what I've read all their fans are behind the prospect of him signing. They'll all be able to beat Sporting's initial offer. Quite comical and obvious how Romano suggested it was Sporting or nothing (playing out his contract).

We'll get what we want for him over the next week or two.

Why? The value is the value. If sporting want him that much they would find the extra couple of million

Why should Sporting shift? They might know that Gyokeres wants the move and they might suspect that Coventry will want the money to reinvest. They just need to hold their nerve, especially if Gyokeres has agreed terms with them - through his agent.

Maybe Lisbon might move on the price, say pay £20 million over 5 years, instead of £17 million over 3 years. That sort of thing is an option.

The risk to that strategy, I would suggest, is a club like West Ham, who can offer European football and who should be rolling around in Declan Rice money.

I certainly agree that everyone is waiting for a PL club to make their move. Again, I think WHUFC might be waiting to sell Rice before they consider a bid.

But it might just be true that its Sporting or nothing because the determining factor in that is what Gyokeres wants.

When Cov sold Dion Dublin, the club eventually took a lower price because Dublin didn’t want the move to Middlesbrough, as I recall. They had offered more than Villa.

I'm sure once Vik gets offered the Prem gold he wouldnt refuse terms with a PL club. He'd be crazy to turn down a chance of PL football.
