I cannot see CCFC getting a penny over £15m for Gyokeres.

Is he worth more than that, not in my opinion based on the fact that Gyok has 12 months left on his contract.

His value actually went up on here from January... until people hadn't seen him play in a week or two

On the face of it, no. But if there are multiple genuinely interested parties which are keen then he'll go for more than £15m.

Personally I think Sporting Lisbon, a club that traditionally doesn't spend a great deal on players, coming in with the fee they have early in the window puts in the club in a good position.

Sportings is a disgraceful offer.

Would be looking for atleast £25m with this much interest though.

£25m for a player who has never kicked a ball in the Premier League and has one year left on his contract?

No chance.

Adam Armstrong was sold to Southampton with a similar contract length remaining for £15m (reported). City might get lucky if other clubs get into a bidding war, but clubs will be looking for proven quality and Gyok doesn't have that in the Premier League so will be a risk to any interested clubs.

So how much are you saying he goes for?

£15m - £18m IMO.

Similar goals per game records as well.

Armstrong a goal every 2.5 games for Blackburn and Gyok is getting a goal in every 2.3 games for us.

I think you will be pleasently surprised then.

Gyokeres offers a lot more to teams than just goals compared to Armstrong.

Indeed he does, but IMO we won't get £25m for him. Would be happy to see it, but given Sporting's opening offer was less than half of £25m, it's clear clubs don't rate his value as high.

Portuguese teams are nowhere near as flush with money as English teams.

If we were to see an opening bid from a Prem team it would be starting at £18m I'd imagine.

Can’t say I agree. Ollie Watkins never played in the Premiership and went to Villa from Brentford for £28m. Then players like Bellingham, Maddison, Benrahma all going for well over £20m+.

Vik is an international striker as well and a talent. There’s a reason half the premiership and plenty of European clubs want him. We can easily get £20m+ just like other stars in the Champ before him.

people not realising that when you have 4-5 bidders, the 1 year on his contract is a bit of a red herring
it is an auction based on who will pay the most for him
I would expect a minimum of £20m with a couple of quality loanees thrown in (not of the bournemouth variety)

But it’s not an auction, it’s more a game of chicken. We can see opening offers of same 15m - we have to decide a figure to accept or risk teams dropping out

if say we accept 17m it means the other teams are likely to bid 17m not trying to one up each other

I do think some people on here are down playing the fee due to one year left on contract. Vik has a special talent and is up there with Cyrille, Dion, Keane, Nuddy and to a lesser extent but great talent Kevin Gallagher as forwards for City.
Some transfer fees in recent times have been ludicrous for players with less talent.

Vik is exceptional with some flaws. Being amongst better players and in theory better coaches( no slight on Mark or Adi) will improve his impact even more.

Becuase these days most football clubs operate a director of football model, the players are brought in to fit a system as is a manager. It’s a continuity thing - basically the manager effectively works with what he’s given
They need to re-name Football Manager. And it suggests that this (very difficult one, if I remember correctly) franchise was decades ahead of its time:

Then we don't accept 17m! Not this early anyway. Once we get close to August of course then its a different matter! I have thought West Ham are a likely destination for a while, but I think the majority of PL clubs outside the top 8 will have him on their radar as of now and if we negotiate wisely I don't see why we shouldn't get £20m+ for him.

I think the issue of there being only one year on his contract has also been overstated. Been trying to think of a similar Championship scenario and saw that when Eze went from QPR to Palace he was in his final year too. Palace reportedly offered £12m at the beginning of August before eventually signing him for £17m on August 28th, so in that instance his value did not diminish the nearer the deadline came.

At the end of the day there are so many variables, and you are definitely right that it is a game of chicken, factoring in how desperate we are to sell/ how desperate are the buyers/ who will Gyokeres want to join/ when in the window do we want to sell him? I guess it is feasible he could still even start the season with us, which would then add further dynamics depending on how well he starts, and how poorly (and therefore desperate) some of his PL suitors might start their seasons.

I'd put Gally on a par with Nuddy at least!

Dortmund would be a good fit for him with all the bellingham cash now

Why? Its a big club and often a gateway club to very big clubs. Can 100% see why someone would go there over a garbage Premier League club like Burnley...

Yeah do well, and your next move is a good Spanish club isn't it.

That said, I always thought Germany was a more likely destination if he didn't stay in England, just because his style of play would fit, maybe a Leverkusen type level?

I agree completely, just shutting down the playing down of fairly large European clubs before it begins because Sky have convinced people the English Premier League is the be-all and end-all.

Play in European competition and do well, and it can catapult you up the levels can't it, plus he might actually win a trophy or two. Main issue I'd have with the Sporting rumour is they're an unstable mess, and think he's probably got enough about him not to hurl himself into such a situation!

Maybe he'll fly over for a medical and try and convince Porto or Benfica to stick a late bid in as he's passing by.
