If was actually concerning how bad he was at the start of last year. Looked like he couldn’t run, no strength, awful first touch. Exact opposite to now. Just shows that time is needed with players. Absolutely superb last night yet he could’ve had 4.

He showed great promise coming off the bench against Leicester, but after that he was sooooo bad.
Eventually MR gave up playing him as a centre forward and moved him out to the left wing, and wouldn't you know it, he's been a revelation since.
Shows what a difference it makes utilising a player in his best position, once he was out on the wing his confidence grew, his performances improved, the fans got right behind him, goals started flowing, and it's happy days!
But let's not pretend he wasn't struggling (that's being very kind) before.

That's your truth, but it isn't mine. I liked him from the start, and could see the player in there. Things weren't quite coming together for him or the team as a whole, but he was not 'dog shit awful'. I give him 100% respect for changing things, and becoming a success, but if any one doesn't think he wasn't fucking awful they are either suffering from amnesia or living in denial.
It's amazing how our fall down the league to just above the relegation zone last season has been conveniently forgotten.
Even MR was having his position questioned on here. (go and look at the posts on here if you don't believe me or cant remember) Wright was playing very poorly, Simms had scored something like 2 goals in 25 games, and we couldn't keep a clean sheet.
We turned it round and went on an amazing run, that took us to the brink of the play off places and the cup semifinal, and Haji and Simms were pivitol in that, fair play to them, a fantastic turn around, 100% respect . But let's not try and pretend that the poor run didn't exist.
When players are on poor runs they don't read social media. And when players are loved by the fans, they still jump ship for more money and claim its to further their careers and other BS, regardless of the love and support they've received. That's just life I'm afraid.
Even when Wright and Simms were at their worst, they still got support inside the arena during matches, And that's exactly how it should be.
But let's accept the facts for what they are.
The team struggled for quite a while, and those 2 struggled for a long while.
I know for a fact that that's part of the reason AV has gone, and that's why we have a completely new and more professional back room set up, and why we now employ someone to help new signing settle into the club and local environment. It looks like Doug and MR have learnt a lot from last years experience.
I am glad he had the patience and presence of mind to round the keeper to score instead of rushing the shot. He described his thought process in the City Unseen video about the goal. Very intelligent.The thing for me is when he went through 1v1 I was already celebrating, I knew he’d put it away - I never had that with Gyokeres tbh. I’m not at all saying he’s better, just different in that regard.
