EMC is going to have some tough job trying to get that left side spot from him.
I would like to see EMC down the centre, with Sheaf and Rudoni sat behind. Wright and Sakamoto wide.

His main competition is Sakamoto, Wright and Simms are nailed on starters. EMC had 2 good opportunities to open his account with us last night and he lacked that killer instinct last night. It’ll come though, he’s still adjusting.

Am I the only one that thought he made some very poor decisions last night and didnt get a cross/shot away? As well as a couple of careless passes that resulted in Oxford breaking? Even with the goals I'd only give him a 7.5

Oh he was fucking awful. I mean dog shit awful.
He showed great promise coming off the bench against Leicester, but after that he was sooooo bad.
Eventually MR gave up playing him as a centre forward and moved him out to the left wing, and wouldn't you know it, he's been a revelation since.
Shows what a difference it makes utilising a player in his best position, once he was out on the wing his confidence grew, his performances improved, the fans got right behind him, goals started flowing, and it's happy days!
But let's not pretend he wasn't struggling (that's being very kind) before.

Even I was wondering last season at the start the price tag didn’t match up with the performances. Once he got in his stride he was great. Big lesson for a lot of people here is you’ve got to give people a chance to integrate.
He’s picked up from where he left off and he will beat his goal tally from last season easily. He’s got pure class when he plays.
Here’s the thing. Still more development in him. There were some chances where he takes an extra touch, should be more clinical with a final pass… for example there were 3/4 Cov players around him with a killer ball.
Once he fine tunes that he is playing in the wrong league. Prem with us but if we don’t go up next season he’s playing in a top league somewhere.
But he has that quality you need to get promoted and if he can keep the form going all season we’ve got a chance.

Correct largely but where I'd differ is the background to it possibly tension arising from the new mixing with the old,MR made it plain they painfully quiet?

That's your truth, but it isn't mine. I liked him from the start, and could see the player in there. Things weren't quite coming together for him or the team as a whole, but he was not 'dog shit awful'. Shouldn't have been necessary to defend him and Ellis on here against the people who didn't have the patience or imagination to see what they were capable of.

There's always reasons.
New country, new league, new system, more intense physical style, leaving family behind, not knowing anyone etc etc.
All of which affects people in many ways.
In Haji's case he was also asked to play as a CF which isn't actually his preferred position, in a league that's way more demanding than the Turkish league where he came from.
So maybe it's not surprising that he struggled so much. But he was very bad.
However to his credit, it could of gone 1 of 2 ways, you either get through it and succeed or you go under and fail. In his case he moved out to LW and turned his fortune round. Fair play to him for that.

Love it that Robins makes players better and works hard on building their confidence. That Haji header last night was immense an incredible leap from a great cross. Big Cyrille and Speedo would have been proud of that - quite an old fashioned goal in some ways.

I give him 100% respect for changing things, and becoming a success, but if any one doesn't think he wasn't fucking awful they are either suffering from amnesia or living in denial.
It's amazing how our fall down the league to just above the relegation zone last season has been conveniently forgotten.
Even MR was having his position questioned on here. (go and look at the posts on here if you don't believe me or cant remember) Wright was playing very poorly, Simms had scored something like 2 goals in 25 games, and we couldn't keep a clean sheet.
We turned it round and went on an amazing run, that took us to the brink of the play off places and the cup semifinal, and Haji and Simms were pivitol in that, fair play to them, a fantastic turn around, 100% respect . But let's not try and pretend that the poor run didn't exist.
When players are on poor runs they don't read social media. And when players are loved by the fans, they still jump ship for more money and claim its to further their careers and other BS, regardless of the love and support they've received. That's just life I'm afraid.
Even when Wright and Simms were at their worst, they still got support inside the arena during matches, And that's exactly how it should be.
But let's accept the facts for what they are.
The team struggled for quite a while, and those 2 struggled for a long while.
I know for a fact that that's part of the reason AV has gone, and that's why we have a completely new and more professional back room set up, and why we now employ someone to help new signing settle into the club and local environment. It looks like Doug and MR have learnt a lot from last years experience.

You can believe it or not, but the guy was under pressure in his personal life and the club supported him 100%.

Look he had a cracking game last night, even though at times he was a bit casual and maybe held onto the ball too long rather than lay it off at times, but I don’t begrudge him that, shows the confidence to take people on, go himself.
But I also think he was our brightest at Stoke when he came on (along with Asante).
I’ve said this before - he’s got the X Factor (the noise when he was a sub warming up last season and the kids shouting his name was the loudest for anyone I’d heard), and has delivered at the most crucial times (wolves and Wembley).
Gyokeres was a superstar for us, so is Haji.
But I also think he was our brightest at Stoke when he came on (along with Asante).

He was good last night and both his goals were excellent for different reasons.
I don’t think he scores that this time last year. Such composure and confidence; neither of which he had 12 months ago.
I actually thought his touch at times last night was frustrating. Either his first touch or an extra touch after he’d done a load of hard work.
Regardless, he was a threat all night and his name on the team sheet will cause other teams to be worried.

Bit hyperbolic about how bad Simms and Wright were. Plenty of people could see their value from day one.
Simms especially even when struggling to score always showed good movement.

I am glad he had the patience and presence of mind to round the keeper to score instead of rushing the shot. He described his thought process in the City Unseen video about the goal. Very intelligent.
