£30k a week is £1.5M a year. Use £3M of Viks fee for an 2 year extension and stick it in front of him and see how quickly he signs. Gentleman’s agreement if we are nowhere near playoffs / promotion at end of season he can go for a fee like we obviously did with Vik.
There isnt really an incentive for him to sign that deal. In 6 months he can negotiate a free transfer for any amount he likes

This should have been sorted weeks ago, what a complete mess a week before the season starts! Why has it taken so long, if he didn’t want to sign we should have sold him weeks ago and replaced him!!!!!
Maybe he has only just informed Robins what his decision is

I really don't think money is the issue.
Thats not what Dawkins is saying here? If Gus’s demands aren’t being met then it has to be money does it not?

We have every right to keep him on the contract he’s on now for the next 12 months and not give a fuck about his wish to be back in Holland. That’s his want, if that’s the message you are delivering? He just can’t expect that to fall into place without either a decent fee coming in to get his move now, or him seeing out the next 12 months on less money.

He had 12 months left on his deal, it should have been sorted weeks ago……either sign the new deal or sell and replace! This shouldn’t be happening a week before the season starts

Vik was our best player also.
Ok so what happens then.. we receive crappy bids, which has already happened, or we acept a bid and he tells us he isnt moving and will see his contract out and we get nothing. What then?

I do wonder if what Dawkins is saying about "what gus wants has been clear for 2 months" isn't money related, and even if it was laughed off earlier in the thread its something like, training 1 less day so he can go back to the Netherlands every week.

That would make some sense of Robin’s comments. Doesn’t appear to add up that it’s a cash issue considering our summer spending. T’s and C’s it would therefore come down to. Could be exit or duration clauses- or as you say!

All that we have heard rumoured is that the club have matched the wage demands. It would have to be something strange like that, for some blame from Dawkins to be placed with the club.

That Robins interview doesn't scream out that Hamers leaving imminently. More a, unless we get what we want, we'll take the decision out of his hands and he'll stay for the season. If he gets a strop on, I'm more than happy to see him in the bomb squad training down the memorial park. I love Hamer, he's been fantastic to watch and a great asset, but no one is bigger than the club.

I wonder if it isn’t a release clause he’s asked for to be inserted into his contract so that if we don’t go up he can leave for a relatively low fee to Holland (Feyenoord) for like £5mil and Doug is refusing.

Yes I didn't think it was as clear as others seem to think.

A release wouldn’t be club specific. So anyone could then sign him.

I don't think Hamer would ever get a strop on with the club, I genuinely believe he loves it here, but is struggling with his family issues.

They can put whatever they like in a contract. Either side.

if he wants to go to one club he’d go anyway so why sign a deal?

Do we set a threshold price now whereby we think the reward associated with him helping us towards promotion next season is greater than the fee we'd get for him?

Sell him and we've got to spend a very significant amount to replace anyway so you might as well roll the dice imo.

If we end up losing him for nothing next summer, we’ll still need to sell someone else again to replace him and add to the squad elsewhere.

Even if we’re in a playoff chase or better, he can still sign for whoever he wants in January and then you’re left with a Brereton Diaz situation. I’m thinking we need to bite the bullet and get the best price we can while we have the time and accept that it puts this project back a bit.

Give him another week, 2 max.

This is what I’m thinking, if he commands a price tag of less than 10m we may just as well keep him and hope he inspires us to promotion, resigned to the fact he leaves for free at the end of the season ‘or, we win the promotion he wins player of the season and can’t wait to sign his new £60.000 p/w contract and lead us into our new era of premier league football.
Of course any of the above is only possible if he’s happy to stay and play, the last thing we need this season is for the club and it’s best player to get embroiled in is one of those ugly ‘train with the kids’ ‘bomb squad’ situation’s, that really wouldn’t help anyone’s cause.
