It’s whether we spend it.Gus plus Vik would almost be a parachute payment
Matt Smith's daily breakdown

if we get 35 for vik and Gus combined that’s great business but 15/17 million should be spent
You mean at Ryton?Do wonder if there’s a ceiling on how much damage we can do in one window though.
Oh I agree hold some back for January if we can get say:Do wonder if there’s a ceiling on how much damage we can do in one window though. Although maybe that’s been done already with the clear out and it’s just upping our targets.
Would hate to see Gus go, but if it opened up another £7.5m or so to spend across the squad I could be convinced. Only if he doesn’t want to stay though.
Something like:
GK (£2m)/Wilson/Tyler
McNally (£3m)/Latibeaudiere
Fadz/CB (£2m)
Kitching (£1m)/Humphries
Sakamoto/BNC (L)/Burroughs
DaSilva/Bidwell
CM (£2m)/CM (£1m)/Howley
Sheaf/Eccles/Kelly
AM (L)/O’Hare/Palmer/Allen
ST (£2m)/ST(L)/Simms/Godden
Thats £13m with the rest of the Vik money and Gus money. Make the right signings and that’s comfortably a better squad than last season. 28 including 3 kids, should be plenty deep enough for a sustained push.
Oh I agree hold some back for January if we can get say:
McNally 2/3
RWB - Joel on a free
RWB 2 - loan
Another CB - permanent freebie
Another CB - permanent fee (1/2)
LCB loan say a Humphreys
ST - a gem from Europe/league one level - 2 million
ST - Prem loan
My arguement was if Gus goes, if we just say 15 another 5 should be invested on top of what I’ve said
Nottingham Forest NFFC no?
If so, Lewis O'Brien Sam Surridge and 8 million ta
50% of sales is reasonable to expectI’m hoping we’ll see about half the Vik fee spent, so the same again from Gus would be good.
It won’t beI'd want to see every last penny of it reinvested in the team in one way or another
Let's see but let's not make it easy for him by saying the fans only expect 50%It won’t be
anything less than half and it’s a bit of a piss take
18.5 STH
PO money
Oh, that’s what I expect and would accept just aboutLet's see but let's not make it easy for him by saying the fans only expect 50%
Exactly, the money we could spend on improving the whole team if spent wisely would be we could challenge for yearsLike with Vik and the fee we got for him, £16m is too much to turn down.
People won't like it, but longer term we are in a brilliant position with those pounds. A season in mid-table and time to spend the money properly over the next 2 years isn't a bad option as long as we secure our status at this level. Making £30m+ of profit on two previously unknown players is incredible.

Exactly, people underestimate how key he is to us and I disagree we’d be be a better team next year without himPeople are getting a bit giddy over the money and what we might do with it. There's no guarantee we spend it well.
Pay him what he wants, get him on a new deal and let's have a real go next season and build on the momentum. His value is highly unlikely to go down, we can always revisit this next season if circumstances dictate. Losing both of them now would require huge adjustment.
We lose both Vic and Gus in this window, we're in a bit of bother. It leaves a huge hole, it shouldn't be underestimated just how good they are.
When I say bother, I'm not suggesting we'd be in any trouble next season, but I couldn't see us pushing on from last term. It would require a comprehensive rebuild, and some of the signings will flop, it is inevitable. We have the right people in charge of course, but you feel the rebuild might take a couple of years to bear fruit.
We have to do what it takes to keep him for another season imo. 20K per week would only be an annual uplift of 500K or so. Surely we pay that rather than pay £2-3 million + wages for a replacement unlikely to be anywhere near his level (if of course he'd be willing to stay for that sort of money).
No chance we’ll give 30TBH I’d go to £30k on a two year deal with a release clause at a set price if we aren’t promoted. It’s almost always cheaper to give your high performers a raise than hire in equal quality.

O'Brien's wages would make it a non starterYou have my attention.
Certainly wouldn’t be averse to O’Brien plus cash. Can’t see it though.
Yeah, so why don’t they just offer him the contract, it’s really aggrevatingWell no, but I don’t run the club. You’d be paying £20k/week and £4-5M to have any chance of replacing him and even then it’s a massive gamble.
Not about money I don’t think nowTBH I’d go to £30k on a two year deal with a release clause at a set price if we aren’t promoted. It’s almost always cheaper to give your high performers a raise than hire in equal quality.
I’ve no idea I just think if he won’t sign a new contract we have to sell?
Have we pissed him off??
