You can't ask fans to join the journey, get recore season ticket sales (at an increased price), get record shirt sales, only to sell your two best players.

If money was tight I can understand it, but we've got £20m coming in from Vik. Even if you can't agree a new contract, that buffer allows you to gamble on keeping him for another year and him walking away on a free if we don't go up.
Agree with the first paragraph, disagree with the second

We can’t keep a 15 million pound asset who won’t sign with a year left, if he won’t sign, DK has to sell, but I expect significant investment in correlation with your first paragraph

Sorry but it's still a business too. You can't allow a potential 15 million asset to walk away for free in 12 months.

Depends on Gus really. If he wants a crack at the Premiership now we shouldn’t begrudge him that move. We won’t gamble on a season and he walks away on a free.

We have seen Doug drive a hard deal and if we got £12m plus McNally and Scott Twine on loan that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Our scouting team then needs to find the next midfield dynamo to develop into a superstar.

There’s going to be some disappointed people here when he goes. Not just coz he’s arguably the best midfielder in the division, extremely likeable & relatable, but also for the fee that we’ll get for him.

Vik was a higher fee coz of the position he plays. He’s also an international. Midfielders don’t generally go for huge fees. If we got £10m+ I’d be surprised.

Would love McNally back, but only if he’s valued at a low enough fee in any transfer.

In reality, £7m + McNally is probably the most we can hope for.
Every fan group inflates their own players’ transfer values.
Edit: would love to be wrong!!

You can when that asset has shown that he has the capability to drag you into the Premier League (as he would've done if he hadn't have gotten injured) and the riches that brings.

It's a gamble, but we're playing with house money after selling Vik

Sorry but you simply can’t let a player worth 15-20 million walk away on a free , that is just daft . We are Coventry City in the Championship , not Real Madrid .
Like I’ve said on other threads Brentford sold Benrama , Watkins and Maupay and still got promoted . It’s how and where you reinvest that determines success

Having said that I hope he stays

Would he horrible to see him go for anything less than £10m.

The papers putting the figure of £15m is good and Doug clearly did well with Vik.

Unless Doug has plans for us to make the play offs.

Those were my thoughts as well after the Vik transfer.
However, after reflecting on it- I don’t think we can realistically allow him to go on a free (unless it’s out of our hands).
Think we have to cash in or somehow convince him to extend.

Burnley are desperate for quality additions. They cant afford the £30 million proven premier league talent.

They have to spend half that on the cream from the championship.

This is the going rate.

The noise is getting increasingly loud which is concerning.

However, I still think he’ll be here next season.

Need some indication/statement/comment from the club either way soon. Speculation and rumours are going to spiral and the positivity that was being generated will soon turn.

We need a blockbuster midfielder and another striker if I’m to accept this move. Oh plus mcnally.

i actually agree with the above poster. Record ST sales and join the journey with a new owner and we sell the best two players in the division…. Well certainly our best two. Replacements yes but hamer will be a bigger blow than Vik as he was always going to go.

15 million is what we should be asking for

We need to be investing another 10 million on this squad if Gus goes

at an absolute minimum

Didnt feel depressed or gutted when Vik left. Just the thought of Hamer leaving depresses me.
Yes Hamer is far more important to the team. I could sort of accept us losing him if he wants to play in the Premier League but not if we have decided not to pay him what he is worth. As you said earlier we would really need to spend the whole fee at least if we want to be competitive next season. The only player I saw in the Championship last season better than Hamer was Diallo so it will leave a massive hole in our team. Not sure a couple of 2.5M players will do it.

I’m hoping for and expecting 10th - would be shocked if we got top 6 again, but annoyed if we struggled

Top 10 has to be the expectation really. I’d expect us to be in contention for the playoffs even if we don’t make it. It’s important we take the chance with the play offs in players minds and money in our pocket and knocking on 20k ST holders that we move to the next level as a club. Which TBF we seem to be doing so far.

Another clubs talisman basically. I just love hamer. Genuinely think he is one of the best in the league: many opposition fans say they love watching him play and how good he is. Says it all.

I would’ve thought that is the plan ? Losing Gus would be huge but it gives us the opportunity to buy 2-3 players in his position to develop . We simply can’t turn down a fee if he won’t sign a new deal

Without Gus and Vik, there's absolutely no chance of making the top 12, let alone top 6.

Money doesn't always buy you good players. We've seen it at many other clubs.

The only rumour about us not paying him what he’s worth has been on here, which probably wasn’t the case.

No it doesn’t I totally agree but we paid peanuts for both and made them into great players , who’s to say our recruitment won’t be as good again with more to spend ?

While the fan in me says this Hamer is a once in a generation talent like Vik. We won’t sell a player for eight figures every season, so realistically we can’t let him go for free. We can pretend to like we did with Vik though.
