We may not replace him exactly but we could sign 2 midfielders of different qualities with the funds.Yes, I absolutely agree that if he wants to go back for his family, we can’t stop him. And he has given this club so much in three years he will go with our blessing. But it would be a terrible blow for Robins and the club. And I don’t buy the ‘We’ll get a suitable replacement’ because I think even MR would concede that is ridiculously hard. Even a player of his technical ability might not have the same gel in the group. Even the new players must have already seen the massive impact he has and be feeding off that.
Think I’ve just always thought ‘he’s staying’ and suddenly I fear he won’t.
Let’s be honest. The homesick stuff is bullshit. If we’d have won at Wembley he’d have signed a contract in a heartbeat and stayed with us.
We’re so much better with him in the team, make him play out the 12 months. Shit or bust season.
Yep I am. At times I’d quite happily go live in Holland to escape my 3.5 year old.I take it you're not a parent?
Of course.
Not really , his partner and him have recently split , she's taken the child back to Holland.. if that's the case he's probably experiencing grief and is possibly missing his kid ..Let’s be honest. The homesick stuff is bullshit. If we’d have won at Wembley he’d have signed a contract in a heartbeat and stayed with us.

My point stands though. If we’d made it to the Prem this “homesick” line wouldn’t even be mentioned.

No - was just posting it because it was out there. Not sure if this twitter handle is reliable at all
Ok fair enough, but I don't think a dad wanting to be closer to his kids is that hard to believe, and none of us know for sure what would have happened had we been promoted.
Only confirmed bid is £3m from Luton right? The issue is I suspect clubs aren’t valuing him anything like the type of money talked on here

He’s a top player, there’s no doubt about it, and other clubs covet them and put things in his head and that’s something that you can’t remove from his head.
This line would suggest he wants to make the step up a level rather than it being homesick

If we’ve offered him £20k a week he can afford to fly to and from NL every day surely? Early bird in for training at 10am and out on the mid afternoon flight once trainings done. Flights what an hour from Bham?I’d put my kids over absolutely everything. The NL is so small he can play virtually anywhere and be able to live near his kids.
Give him an extra day off training and free flights over every week. Surely we can get a private jet from Coventry from Doug and he can commute?

I think injury free would be a great squad player.Liam Walsh in talks apparently
Agreed. I'm starting to lose sympathy for him. It reminds me of when we were getting teasers from bright all summer that he was signing and then he went and signed for wigan.Love Gus and what he’s done for us but whatever the reason is, homesick, not enough money or wants to go to a higher division, if he’s not committed to Coventry then we need to ship him out within 4 weeks and reinvest any transfer fee into the next Gus (or similar to develop).
There’s no point in being sentimental about this now and if anything becomes an unnecessary distraction internally at the club and the fan base.
Thanks for everything Gus. It’s been a great ride but if you no longer can commit to us then have a great career elsewhere.
Coventry City is bigger than any player.
What I don't understand is if we feel there is a realistic chance he is going why we brought him on today. One of their players aimed a wild challenge at him too. Could easily have been another O'Hare scenario.

He’s not set anywhere on fire has he?Liam Walsh in talks apparently
Has virtually no record of performing above League 1.I think injury free would be a great squad player.
