Talk of him being irreplaceable, retiring his shirt number, best in 20 years etc is crazy.
Yes he was excellent from Dec to May, arguably the best in the division.
For the 18 months prior his form was patchy and frustrating with very poor discipline. He was frequently called a liability.
Hope he stays but seems unlikely and no guarantee he will continue as he finished last season.
Been thinking this.

He had one season playing at that level and took a while to get there. MR and AV pushed him to that level. If he goes and we're able to throw £2-4m at a midfielder instead of £1-2m like we did with Hamer, we might find someone that can get to that level in less time. I don't think we'll find someone who's at that level from day one, though. Feel like you need £5-10m to get that.

One up from the brittania 😂, but even if that’s the case I don’t claim to stay in a lavish hotel, why would I?
What’s the saying the rich don’t stay rich by spending money on shit?

Well of course - thats why I once saw David and Victoria Beckham booking into an IBIS

If Hamer was to leave today, wouldn't be enough time to get some in, like for like, so if Hamer doesn't play on Sunday, We're screwed. 😱

We are sure to receive bids before the transfer window shuts, but I would guess that Hamer will be starting againat Leicester. We know King will negotitate hard, and the rumoured 3m bid was ridicoulous. I would probably take anything above 10m though.

I am sure Robins has a number of targets in mind should he go next month. With Palmer back, and Kelly, Sheaf, Eccles and Sakamoto we will have enough to put out a competitve team until the new player comes in.

I’ve always been of the opinion if he doesn’t sign a contract we have to sell but if the bids coming in are way below his value what do you do? Keep him for the year or sell him for say £6million?

how much is a player for 1 season worth, if they are one of the top players in the league

that must be around £3m + , so that means selling for £3m is like giving away for free
so you must be looking at £5m on top of that

More than that. You’re talking the kind of loan fee and wages Tammy Abrahams cost Villa. He’s the best in the division by a mile and worth several league positions on his own. I’d say £5m just for a season. But he’s worth more to us than anyone would pay for his character and fit.

because your retaining an asset that depreciates to zero value in less than a year
While that is factually correct, it isn’t by any means the only potential outcome.
His circumstances, hopes and ambitions could all significantly change in that time, like if he inspired us to a brilliant promotion for instance, would he be able to turn down a new contract ‘and with it the chance to lead this club into the Premier League, I’m sure in those circumstances the club would be happy to meet his ‘much higher’ wage demands.
And if the above happened and he then decided to leave for nothing, you would have to say it worked out well for both club and player.

If Simms is really on £25k Gus is worth £30k. Anyone complains then tell them to have the same impact. No one else is the squad is even close except perhaps Fadz, but he’s waning.

No one has a clue what Simms is on. Highly unlikely to be that much. It’s another figure plucked out the air by someone to suit a narrative

And if we didn’t win promotion and he walked away for nothing next summer it will have been financial incompetence on the clubs behalf. Look at Blackburn this summer …. Had they sold Diaz last summer for even £8-10m they would not be in the situation they are today.

I thought the wage cap was set at £19.000 p/w, I’m sure I’d read that somewhere 🤔

Well that’s the gamble isn’t it, usually I’d be dead against letting a player of value sit on his contract and leave for nothing, but in this case I’m tempted to think it could be the sensible option.

Hamer is such a vital player to CCFC his importance really cannot be overstated, people say if he goes for £10m we can use that money to bring in 3 quality players ‘but only 11 can play at any one time and if we can’t find a replacement for Hamer of at least equal quality, we will be a poorer side for it.

With the players we’ve bought in so far and with a few more still to come, if Hamer were to commit to this season now I would honestly be very confident in the club achieving something really special this season.

I want to know what happened to Hamer wanting £20k, then £22k...? Next week, will he want £70k and that's ok?

He has been excellent since he arrived, and has won player of the season two years on the bounce. He did kick on last season, but the bar was already very high.

This division has seen countless players bought for £1 million that have not got anywhere near Hamer's level, it just isn't that easy.

Easy to be brave when it’s not your money. Football is awash with clubs in trouble because they were “brave” “very ambitious” “ rolled the dice”….

I’d love Hamer to stay but I’ve really enjoyed Coventry starting to build a decent squad again this window. Vik’s sale has been a game changer. Mismanaging Hamers situation undermines all of that.

Agreed that probably no one on here knows how much he earns (obviously he and the club do). Then you go and ruin it by declaring that you know it's not as high as previous poster said.
