I know multipe people who have bumped into him over the summer who he told he wanted to stay.
he may have wanted to stay but things change and money talks.

Said before I love my job and don't want to move.. have turned down sideways and small offers but if I got offered 100% more than i'm on I'd be off. got to think about your future and family.

also without being harsh Gus aint Ronaldo or Zaltan, his body aint a temple cant see him playing until he is 40. needs to maximise the income now

Was Gus dishonest to your knowledge? maybe he was genuinely torn on what to do who knows.

I dont begrudge either their moves and the riches they bring. We have been financially rewarded after all.

Feels like Vik has made the better career long term, he'll be shooting fish in the Portuguese league and being made to look the real deal (I back him to make a huge move down the line)... Gus is going into the team tipped to finish in the bottom 2, will be a real monumental effort to stand out, not impossible but could go tits up.

All i know is the initial reason peddled through pre season was the family in Holland situation for not signing.

It seems then that MR has seen through that a couple of weeks back after his agent starts banging on about how he can get 45k in the prem.......head turned etc.

MR felt strung along, but also has the final say on whether to let him go or not. So it says to me he feels with 15 million he can replace with who he wants 🤷

I think if you reversed the Hamer and Gyokeres situations people would be a lot more angry with Gyokeres than they are with Hamer currently. Guess that's what happens when you're out in Leamington every week getting pictures with fans.

On a serious note though , is n0body like massively impressed we've turned 2.5 million into 35 and managed to get better quality overall players on longer contracts ? And now likely more to come in ?

That's how football clubs that are successful generally operate

Fans criticised Vik for being clear on his intent to leave whilst worshipping Gus for smiling in training.
Which behaviour was really the best for the club ?

Same eventual outcome, if us waiting for an acceptable offer for each is correct. So doesn’t matter either way.

Yea, it's great business financially, we all knew the squad was going to be completely overhauled for this season, and a glance at the ins and outs shows that we've made great progress so far.
If we've sacrificed our 2 best players to build a team that can take the club to the next level, that has to be a positive step.

In a show of respect for Gus we should all throw an ipad onto the pitch at 38 minutes.

And eat 38 wine gums and/or sandwiches we have smuggled in.

Gus is going to regret leaving us the minute he tries to buy a chip batch.
Think he'll be going for a greasy chip butty 🎵🎵

Would you begrudge him moving for that sort of money?

Just think it isn't as black and white as all that. Some people are less single minded as the likes of Vik, he knew what he wanted and did it.

I definitely faff about worrying and overthinking things when I have big choices to make. Could be as simple as that.

Basically we know nothing. He has been excellent for us right up until last Tuesday, he will make us 10x what we paid and we have 2 weeks to find a replacement (although we have probably started that process ages ago) it's not all doom and gloom. I really hope fans can accept it's just what happens in football and that the Doug detractors don't go into overdrive with the conspiracy theories

To be fair they aren't the "happy pills" some people think they are cracked up to be!
Actually proven to do nothing for persistent depression. Just anxiety. It's OK - trials of 'shrooms look good. We can all just trip our tits off on the NHS soon enough.

I don’t know about anybody else, but the thing I’m now most worried about is the number of sodding Lennon and McCartney wannabes bombarding this forum and the Facebook supporter page with all their shite songs for any further new signings…just when we actually had a half decent song that worked for a player (even though it was borrowed from Liverpool)

Viktor clearly, was clear from the outset and stayed quiet for the most part whilst the teams negotiated. Allowed us to recruit and replace him with ample time and left amicably.

A lot of its hearsay but there's a feeling amongst the fans that Hamer has led the club on saying he wants to stay and then giving excuses for not signing, cynic would say this is to extract the best possible contract offer as his back up option whilst his agent has touted him around to other clubs.

I just love this perception of Sheffield from people who have never lived here . Keeps out the riff raff. Your description of the place is the polar opposite of the reality especially areas south of the city.

Sheffield is a lovely city, with a great council which is spearheading a lot of interesting public realm projects. Also got the best coffee I've ever had in Sheffield. Sheffield United are a grotty club though.

I can tell you for a fact that placebo or not they did a pretty good job of keeping me stable while I sorted through my funk. I'd tell anyone who needs them to give them a shot but don't expect to be buzzing your tits off and the side effects can be a pain. However if shrooms are on offer I feel I should give them a crack 🤣🤣 .
