Was Lawrence responsible for our defensive organisation? Was Aled Williams the direct replacement for Dennis Lawrence? If we can get answers for those basic questions then we can start to talk, otherwise it's just fan fiction.Well then you'd have to explain why it went to shit just as Lawrence left. I mean ultimately everything is down to the manager, or ultimately the owner, but it doesn't get us very far.
Yeah, why not get angry at Joe Edwards and Chris Jones instead? Did Lampard bring them in just so they could delegate all defensive responsibilities to the old GK coach?Well yeah, there's also the new coaches.
I'm pretty sure it isn't Aled Williams working with the defenders before games on the shape etc for example.

How do you know he's a decent defensive coach?
????Doesn't say much for Viveash then, he was a centre half.
I just want to deal in facts - which coach is responsible for which facet of play? Is Williams solely in charge of all our defensive work? Or does he just work with the defenders? Does he tell Lampard how our team should defend? How is his coaching style different from Dennis Lawrence’s? What part of his coaching regimen is failing?
I’d be genuinely interested to learn the answers to these questions (I assume you can enlighten me). Otherwise it’s just angry fans shouting at a black box.
????
He was already that. That's why we invested £1.6m in himCredit must go to Aled Williams for turning Dovin into a very confident and capable keeper
He looks miles better than he did at the start of the season - if Williams is to blame for Collins’ decline then he’s also to blame for Dovin’s improvement. He was already that. That's why we invested £1.6m in him

Good recruitment then.He was one of the top-rated young keepers in Europe. We’ve got him at a bargain price and he looks very much a player destined for big things. Good on him and those responsible for the recruitment.
Best to stay off the hard stuff…He looks miles better than he did at the start of the season - if Williams is to blame for Collins’ decline then he’s also to blame for Dovin’s improvement.
There wasn’t much wrong with Dovin in the first place.Incredible that when our keepers were bad it was all the coach’s fault. Now that our GK is playing well, “he was always good”.
So he's the set piece coach, goalkeeper coach and defensive coach? Sounds like it was bollocks all along that he was doing the defensive stuff then. For all the stick he was getting earlier in the season it's only fair to point out the positives too.
Lampard:
"The corner, I will give credit to the set-piece boys because they work really hard for and against, Aled (Williams) and JD (John Dempster), their work is amazing"
Nope, only time the masses mention him is to criticise. Same with Dr Roberts, see how her name has stopped being mentioned now that we're on a good run?Does Williams get credit for Dovin's improvement?
Hes absolutely the best GK coach we have had in the last 6 years.Posted this in the Dean Austin thread but may as well discuss it in the proper thread:
I would say the evidence clearly shows that Aled Williams is the best GK coach we've had in years, if not decades. Anyone care to disagree?
Dovin is obviously playing brilliantly at the moment. But personally I don't know enough about his play previously to know if this is down to Williams or not.Posted this in the Dean Austin thread but may as well discuss it in the proper thread:

He's been here for 5.5 seasons, we've had two different goalkeepers finish in the Team of the Year in that time period, both of them previously journeymen. We currently have a very promising keeper who's settled in nicely after a somewhat unconvincing start. I don't know which other GK coaches we've had who can say they've done that well?Dovin is obviously playing brilliantly at the moment. But personally I don't know enough about his play previously to know if this is down to Williams or not.
Offsetting that is that we've had two keepers, in Moore & Collins, who have were both presumably signed to be first choice who deteriorated so much nobody wanted them anywhere near the team. One you could put down to mitigating circumstances but for it to happen twice is highly unusual. Of course we don't know what, if anything, outside of football may have contributed to that so hard to say for sure its Williams fault.

I know Moore and Collins fell out of form having previously played well, but I think they're playing at a level roughly commensurate with their careers to date.
He's apparently responsible for the set pieces too, and we've been among the best teams in the league with those for the past two seasons.
According to Lampard, it’s Dempster and Williams togetherSet pieces is John Dempster isn’t it?
No. He was good as soon as we got himDoes Williams get credit for Dovin's improvement?
I'm not sure Collins 'deteriorated' - I never really got why people on here seemed to rank him above Wilson in the first place.Dovin is obviously playing brilliantly at the moment. But personally I don't know enough about his play previously to know if this is down to Williams or not.
