Shows how out of control the money in football is getting that we spent more in one season in the second tier than we did in 7 in the top flight 30 years ago.

It was wages that did us and ultimately led to us having forsake ownership of the Arena. Weren't we paying Dublin £20K a week or something. Madness.

Not sure exactly when Terry Butcher managed us but seem to recall he played a canny game. Got salary as a player then a second one when he became manager.

He was employed as a player manager and after playing about 5 games in about a season he decided he couldn't carry on playing because of injury. I think we tried to renegotiate his contract to manager only & he wasn't happy and ended up getting sacked.

He was shite.

Although I remember his first game for us and he did a headed clearance from our penalty area to about the half way line.

He was saying that he had to quit because his knee was shot. Then after being sacked, played over 40 games for Sunderland of all people.

His debut was against Liverpool and he kicked the ball out of Ogrizovic's hands and straight to Beardsley for the only goal of the game!
