If it is St Andrews (3 Viewers)

Come on. So are you happy then with £14M of YOUR money being given to a Joint Venture Company?

And anyway, who says we're playing at St Andrew's next season? A bloke on a forum. Must be true.

Given that it will make them a profit and it saved a community asset-because I do believe the club is that, and it plays at The Ricoh-yes, I would be very happy. Context is everything.

Sure, and it was a loan, you know those things banks do to make a return on money.

The money is being paid back.

Does anybody actually know what the interest rate being charged is to ACL, and if it is more than what the council could have had for it?

Lots of "facts" been spouted, but without anything to actually back them up.

Oh FFS!
So tired of this bullshit now. Get a life and make at least some effort to learn the facts before posting such utter crap.
Jesus!

Tell me, what in that post is incorrect?

@FF Why should the charities turn to other funding streams when they are providing a service for CCC. If these charities weren't there then the council would have to provide these services itself. It doesn't want to so it pays.

That's beyond the point, anyway. My point is that people need to stop throwing "Poor old Higgs, its a charity you know" around when there are tons more suffering at their hands.

Torch,
You deliberately muddy the waters again with this false claim and I am sick and tired of this being misused and misquoted.
If OSB can be bothered to tell the FACTS yet again concerning this issue, then please do. I am sick of hearing this deliberate obfuscation from you and others.

what false claim? Please quote your facts. Please also look at the Twitter exchange between Reid and Maton

A community asset would be a thriving football club. A club who can afford to play in this 'community asset'.

Much has been said about how great this bailout is for the people of Coventry. Maton was squirming when asked directly where the money came from. He wouldn't answer.

We know personally how slippery councils are, how they operate. This deal has 'dodgy' written all over it and for once I hope the Telegraph do something about it.

Sounds like you just have a grudge as usual against a council that doesn't concern you, you don't even live in the area. Did you really want a London hedge fund illegally steamrolling over local companies by not paying their bills and do you not think that councils all over the country are cutting back on your so called 'vital services'.
Don't forget that PM for fuck sake, someone is going to have to silence you !

Of course there are cut backs up and down the country. The difference is, the cut backs aren't being made in order to fund a football stadium.

I love how things actually important to people's lives are only 'so-called' vital when it comes to football arguments.

Oh right. So you'll resort to violence then to defend your Council. Not the club you support, but the Council.

And the services they are cutting aren't "vital" then?

What a nice character you are.

If, as so many people say, ACL can easily survive without the club, then they surely wouldn't have needed the money from the council anyway after only 6 months or so of non-payment, especially with the alleged "bonanza" from the Olympics in that period.(Which I suspect was actually a loss, soon to be rationalised as an "worthwhile investment in raising the profile of the city Worldwide").

Yes and no.

Course the footy team was still playing there, so even though they weren't paying, they were still stopping it being used for something else.

Psychic Sally has probably told them how rosy the future is. They'll be getting loads of rugby games and Mutton will win the next round of Council elections.

What though? Rugby? Open-air concerts in the Winter?

There really aren't that many artists touring each year who can fill an Arena, and certainly not in the Winter.

No, just on here. I need to be "silenced", it seems. He's gone all Corleone on me. I'd better watch my back.

He's not actually sending violent threats via PM surely?

Not saying it'd be easy, not saying it'd be easier without the club there. But at the moment they've been using it and not paying, which is the worst of all worlds for ACL as they don't get the cash, and can't even try to hire it out anywhere else.

The reason that they've allowed them to though is really down to the "extras" such as food, parking etc that 10,000 or so people bring to ACL every other week.

Fair point. Am guessing those contracts become void if the club move out, too?
