Is it worth getting ROD back? (2 Viewers)

Have I missed something or have we come into some money? Our squad is already small with extra games to play. Once we give Rod away, with what are we going to buy this new 20 goal a season striker not to mention all the other players we need. Sorry people we need to be a little realitic about our current situation. I agree ideally we need better but we are skint and don't think we would be to attractive to a lot of players.

But doesn't that then worry you from another perspective? No club appears to give him more than a handful of games.

50 starting appearances in 6 years. Seems to tell it's own story.

And whose stats need checking, mine or Stupot's? Bit confused as to who you mean.

That's it Otis - c. 50 starts in the last 6 seasons. The fact we shipped him out to bring in a kid. The fact he can't get get a game for Hibernian - O'Connor's decent but Griffiths is nothing special.

I can't believe anyone would try and say he's decent because of 1 decent spell of 15 games over 2 seasons ago.

It looks like we're going to renew Platt so we're gonna have Cody, platt, Jeffers, Wilson and Daniels. We need two strikers who are going to seriously push for a starting birth, we already have enough fringe strikers.

So Cup goals don't count then? You may not have noticed but we are not in a shitty league too.

No because Stu is only quoting league stats, not the cup games where he scored against some shitty division 1 side in Scotland.

I too did actually state league games too.

I didn't quote the one cup game because i had no idea who it was against and Scottish lower leagues are way worse than the equivalent English league levels. Was going to check who it was but as it was only one goal it didn't really make any difference.

Whichever way you dress it up his scoring record is piss poor and he has only played 50 games in 6 years!!

I'd maybe take him as an option for on the bench - better than jeffers. play shef platt and mcdonald as a front 3.

The problem is there is still little pace in that front 3, nothing to really worry defenders. Let's put this in to perspective, Sheffield United v Stevenage the other week, their top scorer Evans had already been sent down, and they made a double substitution to bring Beattie and Cresswell off the bench.......

Really are we now so sad and desperate we have to pretend some guy in his mid 20's with a goal scoring record a defender would be ashamed of is going to be our savior. Come on get real.

Well yeah but we arent going to sign players of their calibre to have in our squad are we?

No but we need better than o'donovan, has to be one of the worst players ever at the club.

Unfortunately, I agree.

The bloke just looks way, way out of his depth I'm sorry to say. Facts say that playing just 50 games in 6 years shows that many clubs simply don't rate the bloke that highly either.

Who can we afford that is better than what we've got Otis? Bear in mind such players will need us to pay a transfer fee, and if they're freebies, a whole host of other clubs with more spending power will want them.

We can afford a lot better than Eastwood we were paying to much. O'donovan will be on a lot more than a league 1 player we signed him from Sunderland.

I would go lower league (not that there are that many lower than us now mind).

Would rather take a gamble on a lower league player with a good goal ratio than give ROD yet another chance.

As I said to Paxman in another thread-we will not be the only team interested in such freebies; can we outcompete top end L1 and bottom Champs sides for them? The driving factor will have to be a positive league campaign over money. I am certainly not saying we retain ROD if better, affordable players want to join.

He scored against the 2nd bottom side in the scottish division 1, hardly anything to shout out about.
It doesn't matter anyway, imo he will not be good enough for league 1. We should get rid to what ever mugs will take him.

I think he is a dead end & we should move him out on a free to a L2 or SPL club.

We can do better.

WHO signed ROD ?
was this our head of football operations ?
who else was this football genius responsible for signing ?
is he accountable for his actions ?
where is he now ?

Ah Ok Boothroyd signs O'Donovan but of course Thorn "scouted" Keogh. Same I guess as Coleman signed Eastwood and Thorn "scouted" Westwood, Gunnarson etc. Yes of course.

Boothroyd as manager and Thorn as scout probably both had a say in signing him, it is odd for sure as he came to the club and neither Boothroyd or Thorn seem to rate him as he is rarely selected for either.

I agree actually. I always found the signing odd. Boothroyd in particular having signed him never wanted to play him.

To be honest, judging by how our transfer policy seemed to chance when boothroyd became manager I'm tempted to think most of the signings were his (including Keogh). ROD scored 2 v Colchester when Boothroyd was manager.

obviously get rid of him if the opportunity to sign new players arises. with the current situation though its likely were stuck with players like him.
