But I still think he can be a bit of a handbrake slowing the play down and still doesn’t pass forward often enough, and who would pass it back to those centre backs
I must admit I knew he was talented but never thought he was this good. Fair play to him hope he stays grounded and goes as far as he can go

You beat me too it. Always came/comes across as having a very high opinion of himself, but fair play to him, always putting himself forward to be out and about with the community commitments for his club and in Coventry too.Not entirely, this kind of thing is lovely

Yes. How many games have you been to this season? Are you going to tell me Willis, Clarke, Turnbull, Webster, Martin etc are better on the ball. He's made some fuck ups but is generally decent on the ball.McFadzen?
Judging player ability 15I thought we looked much more threatening when Maddison and Murphy came on. They may frustrate..... But they are talented and do cause problems for the opposition. We'll miss them next season.

In all seriousness, I am baffled as to how people couldn't see that he's a special special player. His biggest problem is, he doesn't play for a big club yet. If he played for a traditional big club he would have already played for England... Case in point, Mason Mount, has had a year in the Championship, then 5 or 6 appearances for Chelsea and was selected and played. Madison, has had league 1 time, performed in the championship, and has so far performed in the Premier League, get him in the middle of the park for England and watch how much better we are at retaining the ball and creating chances, the last couple of England games saw Kane having to drop deeper and deeper to get the ball and start attacks.
He will, however, have a battle to break into the team as it becomes increasingly clear Southgate and the FA are committed to rewarding players who come through the national system.

I’ve posted before that there’s a consicious effort from the FA to get as many players who have come through the England youth teams into the seniors. David Ornstein actually reported this a few days ago

Shouldn't they choose the team on merit, on who is the best player in a particular position at the time of selection, rather than who has played at lower age groups?Cant really argue against what they are doing. Seems like a good model to follow. And as mentioned there will be outliers and I’m sure Maddison will get his chance. Hopefully he gets enough of a chance to show what he can do though.

You would also wonder why someone of Maddison ability didn't represent England at younger age levels. Because he came through an unfashionable club's academy?

TBF, I said the same thing first time I saw him play, posted it on here a few times too. Even Stevie Wonder could see what a special talent he was.
I first saw Maddison play in a pre season friendly v Watford when he came on as a sub.
I'd never really heard of him and I think he was maybe 17 at the time. When I saw him in the warmup I genuinely thought he was a ballboy/mascot, he was absolutely tiny and looked like a boy, not a footballer.
But then he came on for 20/30 mins and you could just instantly see that he had something. The touches and the flicks and movement. It was so obvious that he had incredible talent.
I said to my mate that based on those few minutes I am certain he will play in the Premier League one day and maybe play for England.
