Is Ryton training ground done? (1 Viewer)

Looking at this picture of Ryton the Sky Blue Lodge is tiny compared to the facilities available at many Championship clubs now.

Even knocking it down doesn’t leave much room to make it bigger as a facility with the 2 training pitches literally on top of it.

Only option is to build into the carpark to double the size of the facility, but that then doesn’t leave a carpark, unless they can do that along the entrance road to the lodge.

We are some way off from a new location and training base. DK said that would only come with Premiership parachute money.

Wouldn't really be feasible given the inevitable cost of the site as well as the massive amount of work required to develop it to suit the club's requirements.

I have always advocated tie ins with Warwick Uni and Coventry Uni. Facilities, Medical Students, Physios, Sports Science and nutrition. All sorts of potential and both Universities contain potential fans.

Warwick Uni are impressive with conferencing and outside stuff. Doors for players to think about life after football? Also all those businesses Warwick Uni are involved with - there must be potential sponsorship opportunities?

Used for parking when events are on at the connextion.

It was built for football though, been years since I’ve been there but there were inside pitches etc.

I think Southampton have more pitches and a bigger area for their academy alone then we have at Ryton.

I’ve been to loads of training grounds round the country, Ryton is a postage stamp compared to most, but it has been neglected for years so to get it up to standard will take time but at least it’s happening.
If I remember correct the Lodge isn’t that small apart from dressing rooms it use to have a dormitory and other rooms needs a lot of re-hashing though.

Seems a no brainer to me. They’ve got world class facilities that are used by visiting teams in various sports such as the commonwealth games. You’d only really need the match quality pitches, which they’ve had to pay for at Ryton and you’re good to go

Visit Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground every other Friday in Wolves. Daft that we’re comparing training grounds with much better off clubs, but it’s a pretty smart place. Academy have their own very flash facility.

Kirby Corner looks perfect. Lots of space, both unis, Earlsdon Rugby and Godiva Harriers. You’d think something could be sorted that benefits everyone.

If you're looking to dazzle prospective new signings and compete with top-end clubs in this division then I'm not sure sharing with the local university is going to cut it - really we need to acquire and build a new facility for ourselves.

Best I’ve been to, built on an old golf course, has a ground that will probably hold 5000.

Been there a few times that has a ground too which a ladies team plays on and the pitches stretch as far as our Memorial park, Derby is big too.

Im thinking more you carve out a bit for CCFC but things like all weather pitches, equipment and the like that won’t be used day in day out can be shared. I’d imagine the unis have access to machinery that we don’t and wouldn’t be economical to buy.

Pretty much. People who think Ryton can be revamped are delusional. It's tiny even compared to some League One training facilities. Ideally we should sell the land and move somewhere much much bigger and build a state of the art facility that can compete at an elite level.

It’s all money isn’t it? When you watch the All or Nothing on Amazon and see the likes of spurs Man City and arsenal, the training grounds are the sorts of places that the players could spend hours at - having lunch, gym, whatever.
Say same about any training complex where money has been invested.
Just seems that whilst ryton ticks some of the boxes, it doesn’t see to be the sort of place the players could genuinely spend hours at - other than for training, but of gym work, good and that’s it… albeit it is a ‘cosy’ environment where the team spirit has obviously been built every day they are there?
