If true, why am I not surprised?

We wasted a lot of money last year on some very poor players who either didn't have the technical/physical ability, or the necessary desire to succeed.

At least Robins is trying to address this, but we must be aware that, realistically, some new signings will end up being disappointments.

Yes, "if true".

I know what he's saying is correct.

edit to say that if it doesn't happen doesn't mean anyone's lying, sometimes these things go tits up, but at the moment. it's on.

Too much horsing around here..... two stories on one thread

A tweet from the Peterborough chairman is on a James Collins thread and cov mad suggest we're after a transfer listed Peterborough player.

To tidy up are you saying that the James Collins deal is currently on track to being nearer completed and a fee been agreed or tabled?
Is the deal at personal terms yet?

I'm talking about the Collins deal. He's hopeful and they are trying to do the deal. I wouldn't put bullshit on here.

I was told by someone high up in the club that none of the cup money will be available for next season signings / budget , it was used to plug the gap in the budget last year from the reduced attendances & was eaten up before we even won the cup...

Can you go back and ask the same person if that's really the case why they refused around £1 million of transfer fees in January?

Yep, Willis is replaceable a 15 goal striker who is proven in league two is hard to find

no they aren't. Chris Dagnall scored 17 last year.

Willis and Stevenson are better than league two. Sell them, buy Collins and have a lot left over maybe, but replacing Willis with Collins isn't great buisness

To be honest mate I just want players that can get us out of this awful league first time of asking. A 15+ striker is one of those but an average centre back in Jordan Willis isn't. He can easily be replaced

Not sure on what your point is with Chris Dagnal?

Only 7 strikers and 2 attacking midfielders scored more than 15 league goals in league two.

My point was that Willis could be replaced easily if we cashed in on him and where as to get a proven striker is tricky and teams try every window to get that man in.
Goals is what we lacked heavily last year.
That fact were very interested in a striker who finished joint 4th in the league is perfect in our ambitions.

my point is, if we sold willis for what he is likely worth, we could buy pretty much any striker in league two and have change.

Willis was wanted by a championship team and at worst is likely to go league one.

Look at Josh Morris last season, not wanted by Bradford and did very well at Scunthorpe. He was a free. Its not all about transfer fees

But the problem is them players don't come round very often. You are taking a gamble and most of the time it doesn't pay off. With Collins he is probably the only 20+ striker that would actually want to come to us(because of the Cov link). You can't see other league 2 strikers such as Hylton and Akinde wanting to come here which is why I think we should make him our No.1 target.

There's neigh chance we'll sign him, no matter how much we nag the club to do it.

Yeah pretty much agree it's not all about transfer fees and we're not a club to spend our way out the division far from it, and I've said quite a lot you can generally assemble a team of "frees" to get out this division as others teams have proven but if you want a specific type of Striker who will do more than the job of just scoring your gonna need to pay a fee of some sort depending on the individual to release him from his current club at what ever level he's at.

Just so happens the one we're interested in is a regular league two performer with a very good proven track record at scoring and being a big figurehead but is tied in to a deal till 2019.

Carlisle paid a undisclosed fee for Charlie Wyke from Middlesbrough u23s they wanted a big attacking threat and had to pay for him after seeing him have average loan spells at Hartlepool and Wimbledon.

Swings and roundabouts, the frees are there if you shop right to build 95% of the squad but if you want that final piece of the jigsaw you need to buy, get lucky on a loan or make do and hope it goes to plan

Maybe because we are now self funding and don't need the money.

I agree I think that he will be the difference to whether we get the play offs or not. If we don't get that 20 goal striker, then I think we will just miss out.

signing Collins will still be a gamble. Just because he has a track record at league two, doesn't mean he will be a success with us.

Remember, Russell Slade had a track record in League One !

Not as big a gamble as going for someone who has been released by a championship team(look at the likes of Tudgay). Collins scored 20 goals in a poor Crawley side that finished 19th! You would think that in our team that he would score at least 15+.
