signing Collins will still be a gamble. Just because he has a track record at league two, doesn't mean he will be a success with us.

Remember, Russell Slade had a track record in League One !

Every signing is a gamble if he's free or 60 million... it becomes a calculated gamble.

He's done it at nearly every club in terms of goals but he brings more than goals to the team in terms of his physical presence that opens up teams for McNulty or hopefully George Thomas.

Think managers are different to players as they sometimes need the personnel to execute there game plans. Slade was possibly a target man away to "possibly" getting some results, we don't want to be a target man/physical player or a 15+ plus striker away from a play off place.

Like McNulty is reported to favour playing with a big man doing the graft opening up space to exploit.

If Collins does sign we would have a very potent front line. Him, Bevon, Thomas, McNulty and Kwame will all get 10+ goals at that level.
Him, McNulty and Thomas would be one of if not the best attacking line up in the league. It's just whether we will be able to hang onto the likes of Thomas and Beavon if Collins signs. If not then Collins and McNulty would still be a formidable strike force

I'm talking about the Collins deal. He's hopeful and they are trying to do the deal. I wouldn't put bullshit on here.

Heard something similar, speaking to a city fan yesterday afternoon who was with a lad who allegedly knows Collins. Apparently terms agreed with the player and he's keen yet the clubs are haggling over a fee.

Personally I wouldn't have thought that we'd be able to agree terms or speak to a player unless the fee had been alread agreed. Only passing on what I've heard but sounded genuine. Would be a fantastic signing but can't see it myself.

If Collins really wants to come and we are interested, there's not much Crawley can do except get the best possible fee or they risk having a player who's thrown his toys out the pram and doesn't want to play for them. It's the fee that'll be the stumbling block but if they can get over that then I think it will happen

It might not just be how much the fee is there will probably be negotiations over payment schedule, additional payments in the event of promotion and a share of any subsequent transfer fee if he's sold on

I don't think that will be too much of an issue. Mind you this is us we are talking about!

I heard that we offered them the wrong flavoured bag of crisps for him.

Would never be able to happen on football manager ;)

As it stands Collins will be joining Luton. Widdrington has told Crawley his budget and unless that changes it isn't enough to match lutons offer. Collins wants to come here and city have offered him a good enough wage deal. We offered £150k. Hopefully we manage to get some more from somewhere even that means Willis or harries going. I think he could be the difference between mid table and play offs personally. For me the main factor is that he is desperate to play for us unlike the Andre wrights of this world.

if the player doesn't want to go to Luton then surely he wont go?

You would think if he rejects Luton then it will give Crawley no choice but to say yes to us. He has told his agent that he wants to come here

Maybe or maybe someone else mentioned in the post

Ok, I don't wanna blow your cover and any information is good in a preseason that's gone a little quiet but earlier in the thread you were the one asking if anyone knew him and had any gossip?

Someone must know him or his family and can find out some gossip

Have you recently found a long lost friend who knows James or a horse in a field that wanted to whisper a secret conversation he'd overheard while munching on a carrot?

To me it sounds like there might be a bit of a standstill at the moment. Surely we could boost the supposed 150k to 175k to try and sweeten the deal a bit. Would be disappointing if he goes to Luton.
