Jamie Allen signs new Contract (1 Viewer)

He deserved a new deal and not just because of his effort. He has improved his game and stepped up to the level we are now at. He is probably the fittest in the squad but is now putting it together with other aspects of his game. He adds to the squad and is a nice player to pin down and to add to.

Be interesting to see who is next, I would imagine Eccles, Jones and Macfazden are in talks. I would offer all new deals with Eccles getting a long term one.
Eccles signed a new deal last season whilst on loan at Gillingham (I think)

Are you suggesting Allen, a player who has played a fair amount of games in the championship for a team nearer the business end rather than basement of the league has no re-sale value?

He certainly hasn’t no. How much do you think he’d be worth? Todd Kane played 200 plus games in the championship - how much did he cost again?

The same people complaining about contract extensions would be up in arms if there was a mass exodus of the squad as contracts ran off and blame Robbins for poor planning.

One thing Robbins has been brilliant at is to continuously evolve and improve the squad - if he thinks Allen is good enough to continue with us on that journey- more than good enough for me vs. some of the “experts“ on here.

Yes it’s not like we havent get players on contracts who are just running them down and we can’t get rid of..

It sounds like allen is one of the players who is setting the standards in training. Also the fight he has shown getting himself off the transfer list and into the starting line up is admirable. Hes a good character to have in the squad. I also cannot imagine hes on that much.

Allen has showed some class this year… I like him and just don’t get the negativity
But that is what the usual number of certain fans on here do and from now when he plays they will be on his case like a rash, monitoring every loose pass, let’s be honest a two year contract at 26 isn’t massive
Don’t care what others said the last few games he’s played or come on as sub he’s been okay.
We haven’t the money to splash around our owner wouldn’t allow it.
Allen at 26 on a two year extension is nothing.

Contract signings like this and Godden really show we are limiting our potential growth as a championship club
You're lumping together a player who is a first choice and has one of the best scoring rates in the division with one who is an occasional starter here.

Not sure if I count as one of your 'experts'. I never claim to be anything other than a fan, and one who has opinions purely based on what I see in matches. Of course Robins knows far more than all of us.

I continue to be unconvinced that Allen is effective as a Championship player. As I said I hope he proves me wrong as Gyokeres did.

It doesn't make me less of a fan that I think some players are better than others and some are not quite good enough. Surely there must be players you aren't sure about? Otherwise why don't we win the league every season?

Having a bad day Grendel
Been stuck in a queue at Waitrose or fallen out with the wife.
Relax it's Xmas Eve tomorrow.

Every night is Christmas Eve in his house-waiting for a sack that never comes

Is your misspelling of Robins deliberate?

I thought it was a nominal fee I’ve not heard that quoted anywhere
I think you're right G
Kane isn't on big wages either
He came here bacuse he wanted to play
QPR didn't have a queue of takers and their manager wanted him off the premises

Not aimed at you Herts!

Gyo has proved lots of doubters wrong; and in my view so has Allen this season.

Message was not about being any less of a fan and was not intended to read that way - but I do think Robins deserves the benefit of the doubt in these judgment calls given his fantastic record of evolving the squad - and without a huge amount of cash to throw around.

I would guess about 200k. Todd Kane!?! QPR wanted him off their wage bill and there were interpersonal issues too. On that basis the comparison was a poor choice. We also do have a number of worthless players in our squad that we would release for nothing but Allen is not one of them and the new deal suggests Robins is of that view.

For clarity, to get to where we want to be Allen should be no more than 4th or 5th choice and I don't rate him that highly but worthless, no.

Fair to say not an overwhelming extension but has proved his worth as a squad player in and around the first xi.
I doubt we would have bust the bank with this contract extension and he is pretty versatile.

I also expect to see with him extended Kelly released at end of this season - a bit meh but I do not have a real problem with this extension as I do think he has kicked on a bit this season.

A lot less than Walker cost us.
In Kane's case QPR just wanted him off the wage bill.

Your fully entitled to your opinion and unlike yourself I will keep it friendly and respectfully disagree.

Here is a link to a transfer market website where they evaluate player values. They think he is worth 450k, I said 200k as I don't think he is that good but there you go.

yes it says Wesley Jobello is worth £220k and hillsner the same.

Another cheap and cheerful solution then. Let’s extend Shipley as well.

Yes it is but you could pay a lot more and get a lot worse than Allen. The thing that has made this team is group togetherness rather than individaual talent. The never say die attitude has been outstanding with so many late goals.

PS Grendel used to post on how spending money didnt correlate to getting better players. This season he has switched horses (something he has done numerous times before on various topics) and is complaining about lack of investment.

Was Kelly not a new two year deal at the end of last season?

Well on that basis, given those two are next worthless my 200k valuation is probably not a million miles away.

Not really as it rates Sheaf the same as Allen

You might be right on Kelly & contract but think he will be moved on at the end of the season.
Been a great servant but I think that it will probably be the best decision.

Players like him will leave with their heads held high and in Kelly's case especially having helped to drag the club up from the basement. At the same time the club has to move on so those who take his place can help write a new chapter

I suspect it's not accurate in all cases. Jobello at 200k is clearly overvalued and at anything less than a million + for Sheaf is being underrated. My only point has always been that Allen is not worth zero pounds and zero pence. To say otherwise in my view is slightly strange given the money that, even during a pandemic, has changed hands in the lower leagues for players less accomplished than Allen. Regardless, your entitled to have your opinion.
