Considering Twine was what 4m? Who do you want for 400k

also considering Brexit rules make it notoriously difficult to sign foreign players - which top league in Europe are we getting a championship standard AM for 400k?

I’m not suggesting bidding the ‘trivial’ 400k for such a player.

I'm hoping that's just a random conjuring a figure tbh.

Clearly it is. According to some, we are now flush with someone else’s money so we can chuck ‘trivial’ amounts at whoever instead of going for Hamer/Sheaf/Walker/Gyo type signings for slightly higher amounts.

And it is ‘chatting rot’ to suggest so. Fair enough from the poster who predicted Haaland would struggle in the PL.

400k guaranteed championship performer and gives us an extra dimension in the 10 role. If we can get 2 good seasons out of him then it’s good business. It means when we sell Vik in the summer MR can concentrate on other areas of the squad and build another squad for the next 2-3 years.

This

Paterson Palmer O'Hare is a top 8 selection of CAM players easily

He hasn't been a guaranteed championship performer for Swansea this season.

Even if it was that amount it’s 3% to 4% of our turnover which is pretty trivial

Then 2 or 3 times as much for a Sheaf/Hamer/Walker/Gyo isn’t that big an outlay and offers better chance of a return.

you do realise this fee will be managed by existing cash flow?

Most signings we make aren’t aimed at getting returns

there’s also no assurance there ever will be either as Jodi Jones illustrated

I’m just looking at the mixed messages. Gyo when sold will make a big return on investment for the club, Hamer too should make a profit.

Said this before but our signings since promotion:

Abroad:
Bright, Dacosta, Hilsner, Hamer - 1/4

Championship:
Moore, Kane, Bidwell, Palmer, Waghorn, Walker - 1.5/6

Prem:
Sheaf, O’Hare, Vik - 3/3

Lower League:
Tavares, Reid - 0/2

Its fairly obvious what our best route is. I’d argue Reid is more lower League than abroad, in which case it’s:

Prem - 100%
Abroad - 25%
Champ - 25%
Lower league - 0%

Abroad:
Bright, Reid (sort of), Dacosta, Hilsner, Hamer - 1/5

Championship:
Moore, Kane, Bidwell, Palmer, Waghorn, Walker - 1.5/6

Prem:
Sheaf, O’Hare, Vik - 3/3

Lower League:
Tavares - 0/1

Its fairly obvious what our best route is.
What is the 1.5 out of that list? To say it is 0.5 better than the abroad list is completely disingenuous:

Moore had one good full season (regardless of how you try and paint it to be a handful of games) has been shite this season
Kane - meh, certainly wasn't dreadful but hasn't worked out
Bidwell - good signing
Palmer - Good signing (only half way through a season so hard to judge but has been so far)
Waghorn - not good
Walker - was our top scorer in his first season and had little impact since.

It is nowhere near as bad as you are painting it.

This might be the single worst take ive seen on here and i have read, and posted some utter shite

Goddens signing was one of the most important in years. His goals, in all them narrow wins we achieved in the L1 winning season were literally the difference between promotion and not.

Yes now we've outgrown him but his goals (along with walker tbf that season) also helped keep us up first season back
Have we out grown him?

Yes I think I'd give those players more than 1.5/6

Moore 0.5
Kane 0.5
Bidwell 1
Palmer 1
Waghorn 0
Walker 0.5

3.5/6

He’s 32 this year and keeps picking up injuries.

Time catches us all.

Great in L1 for us and we will forever be thankful. First Championship season he was ok but of late, when playing, offered little aside from his finishing.

If someone were to come in with £400k bid then it’d be offyego from me. Doubt it though.

Seems to be always injured but a hell of a goal scorer when not injured. I bet even if he doesn't play again this season he ends up our second top goal scorer. More a dig that we have no one to follow up than Godden is great. I still miss God though, and hope he comes back and score a shit load. I've not rote him of yet.

😳 Allen and Hamer have already overtaken him so if he doesn’t play again this season he won’t be higher than 4th in our scorers list.

Anywho I’m now really hoping Paterson joins if only so he can join the long list of CCFC players whose names are misspelt by most fans (cf Tommy Hutchison, Kevin Gallacher, Michael Mifsud)

Palmer is still a 0.5 at the minute. But I agree with the rest.

Yeah I was thinking maybe a 0.75, somewhere between the two. But went with a 1 as I think he's shown plenty of potential, but yeah he's not fully proved it yet.

Yeah ultimately the only thing we can conclude about Palmer so far is he has the skill to maybe be worth his signing, but he hasn't justified his cost so far, so a maybe seems fair, could go either way.

Current team status. Palmer is 0.5 as he’s not playing every game really and will likely be dropped if we sign Paterson. Moore has been poor since New Year last season and was dropped by the end of the season. He’s obviously not got a future here same as Walker. Which matters when you’re talking about a three year deal we can’t get out of. Say what you want about Hilsner and Dacosta but their deals won’t have cost us as much by a long shot.

Bidwell is the only signing we’ve really made with Championship experience who has consistently kept his place ahead of others from lower League. And even he might be for the chop if this new lad is any good. And was largely second fiddle to Maatsen.

Outside of Hamer pretty much all our successful signings have been players from Prem U23s.

Wasn't Cashman a premier league signing?

Would also be interesting to look at how many of the young players bought in for development have progressed. Hyam more or less came straight into the match day squad, and Tavares has had some game time, but a lot have not made it.
