His stats are on par with ilias chair at this level who I'm sure most city fans would love to have here but would cost a few million
I guess it depends on who you are comparing them to, but we need to look at ourselves first really. We need midfielders that can chip in with at least 5, but more towards 10 goals a season. At present we don't have any and it is a bigger problem than people think.
Our main attacking midfielder, O'Hare, (who is now out injured), can't hit a barn door. Our one striker who has everything on his shoulders still misses a lot of chances anyway, and the rest of our midfield are, putting it politely as possible, goal shy. Allen should contribute more, and Sheaf is just an embarrassment whenever he gets in the box. He fell over twice against Burnley. Hamer if he didn't play so deep would probably score more, but seems to do well on the assist front. Wingbacks also score once a blue moon. Bidwell one goal for us, and I don't think Dabo has ever scored. I just checked and we are 20th in the league for total goals scored in The Championship. That's abysmal, but not actually that surprising for me, because I feel like I spend half my life moaning about us wasting chances.
Patterson I would imagine would make us better in that department, so I would be in favour of signing him. Palmer for me was probably a similar chunk out the budget and is proving to be largely as many of us expected - some good bits and pieces, but not enough goal contributions, and not able to do it for long enough periods. We need to upgrade desperately. Is Patterson that? Yes. Is he the messiah? Perhaps a stretch too far.
If he joins, I think we should be happy with the decision, but I would exercise some caution also. If he can find the form from last season then it will be a great signing though, so let's just hope for that. Likewise, I'm also quietly hoping Godden can come back and hit the ground running. If he, Patterson, and Gyokeres can all start scoring then we'll quickly be going in the right direction.
