I think dke has done ok and will get better! Dont think this new lad is better than him we need to start developing our own players.

Hey all, NUFC fan here and glad to Sterry join you after the success with Armstrong last season.

Really thought he was ready for the step up this season but then we sign 2 right backs so that put and end to those hopes.

He's a good defender likes to get forward a bit and is hard as f#ck in the tackle (you may see a red card or too). Seen him in a pre season game this year and thought he was a stand out amount the rest, links up play really well right side.

LOL, BBC said Sterry deal was todays first!
Breaking DONE DEAL - Coventry sign Newcastle's Sterry Posted at09:05

And there we have it, folks. The first signing of deadline day.

The honour goes to League One side Coventry City, who have brought in Newcastle United full-back Jamie Sterry, 20, on loan until 3 January 2017.

and proof that moaners should just wait till end of transfer window like the adults on this forum told them too

That's absolute rubbish, sorry.

It's not proof of anything, as you can see clearly our squad is weaker and smaller than last year. A couple of deadline day signings won't make much change to that in the grand scheme of things.

Should we not just develop dke as opposed to a Newcastle 20yr old

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
No, if we have any intention of getting out of this league, if this lad is judged to be better
Then we have to take him. It doesn't mean DKE stops his development does it if anything
It just takes unnecessary pressure off him, and allows him to mature properly.

What rubbish. You are saying if we get a couple more good players in it wont make a difference! Good players make the team better, in the grand scheme of things.........

No, he's been getting on his high horse all preseason criticising anyone that has had a single doubt about the squad.

I'm saying that people are concerned because we're not as strong as last year, and our recent results would suggest we're not particularly good, wouldn't you agree? That's a fair judgment for people to make.

So whilst a couple of additions would be very welcome, the team is weaker than last year. So in the grand scheme of things, people's concerns are still valid. Nothing un-adult about it, as the original poster has tried to make out.

Decent signing (although would have preferred a perm right back) - although as the signing was made at 9.10am, it'll be a shame if there's no more business done by us today (which seems likely IMO) as that'll be all of excitement over for the day before it's barely started, and we'll be treated to the live feed of the CT's "rolling news", in other words they update it about once an hour with rubbish like who's been loaned to Scunthorpe, fans' views on Sterry on Twitter, RCC tweeting about the Fleetwood game, etc etc

No I think he's got a point. Although we can't make final judgement until the window closes, with the squad we already had we have managed 2 points and 3 goals in 5 league games. Our squad is altogether weaker and has less depth than last year, so the concerns are valid.
If we pull through another 3/4/5 players to strengthen each area then just maybe we can be comparable, but even 2 more signings is unlikely to bring the team to the level of last season.
What's your opinion on the current squad, good enough? Comparable to last season's team?

I would say we have 6 or 7 players in our squad that with a bit of luck, could be in and around our team for years to come.

RCC, Willis, Harries, Stokes, Turnbull, Jones, Rose.

I think we are doing the right thing. Building a team / squad with youth and a team that can grow together (some maybe sold, but others will come in). This has to be better than Ramage, Hunt etc etc

Mate if we signed Ronaldo, Messi and and a 21 year old Maradonna you'd still complain

why are you saying its weaker as if it is FACT?

you are already dismissing any new signings too which shows the world how bias you are. you just want to be negative

you and the other kids moaned and moaned. adults told you to wait till window closes. now it looks like we will have a big squad with 2 players for each position. just admit you were wrong like you were about jacob murphy

Ok, i do kind of see your point. But if you took Armstrong out the squad last year where do u think we would of finished? That one player made a hell of a difference. If we could find 2 players to have the same impact he had, dont you think it it would improve the team?

Is the squad that much weaker than last year? I don't really think it is, or it's really too early to judge. If last season's squad was so good, what happened to them all after christmas?

Granted, we've had a poor start, but I see this more down to poor preparation (possibly forced due to when players come available). I think we've strengthened the team in some areas compared with last season, central midfield is better imo as are the centre backs.

Generally i would say we are stronger in every position bar up front (at the moment). But our strikers really do look much weaker so far this season, hopefully they will kick it up a notch or we bring in AA#2.If we bring in 1 proven goal scorer (crazy i know right) i think we would be sitting pretty.

how would you know???? you watch newcastle youth teams play alot?

seriously fucking hell pal, are you new to football?

2 players for 1 position makes sense. playing DKE all season long will end up hindering him AND the team

Our opinions differ then. We aren't miles and miles away with the recent weeks signings and Sterry now too. Defense was a real worry for me.
But goals are not going to come at the minute. Another Arma would settle my nerves!

You are obsessed about being right, so I wonder if you have some sort of self-esteem issues? Also, trying so hard to boast about being adult makes me think you are probably anything but. Just because you believed we would be amazingly better off doesn't make you right, or have the ground to try and put other people down.

For the record, I haven't dismissed any of the new signings whatsoever, I actively encourage them and are pleased we are still doing business. What I have said is that regardless of who we sign (unless they really fucking amaze us), our overall team is still weaker than last year. It's impossible to back that up with fact which is why you've tried to call me out on it, but if you look at our league position after a few games compared to last season, and look at the performances on the pitch, we aren't there yet it in almost any aspect. That also doesn't mean however, that I don't want us to well. I really hope we kick on this season, but I think as it stands people need a reality check if they think we're going to storm the league.

I won't go into Murphy, because it has bored everyone to do death, but the points I made were valid ones, even if you don't agree.

Typical filling by the CT on their "rolling live news" feed:

Sterry could start at Fleetwood
Dion Kelly-Evans was sent off last night against West Ham U23s, but can still feature against Fleetwood Town on Saturday because his suspension only applies to the Checkatrade Trophy. That being said, Sterry may well be handed his debut by Tony Mowbray from the start.

In other words, "now Cov have signed Sterry, he might play on Saturday and then again he might not, or he could be on the bench. We've no idea really, but since there's no other news for us to add into our live news feed, we'll write up this obvious piece of padding and pretend it's something newsworthy, as otherwise we'll have nothing to write at all and people will wonder what is the point of a rolling news feed."

if murphy was so shit then we wont miss him???

you like knee jerk reactions. because we had a slow start you think we are shit. i assume this time last year you put all your money on 100pt plus promotion?

I really do, but my understanding is that Mowbray is looking at defence. That may now change obviously having signed Sterry, we can certainly hope. If we sign another Armstrong player, or even one that may chip in with half the amount of goals he scored, then things will certainly improve.

I just don't think people should get ahead of themselves yet. If we end up in the playoffs in May, we can all have a beer and smile about it, I just think there is going to be far too many people disappointed come Christmas time and beyond. Of course, I am more than happy to be wrong.

Sterry fills one of the vacant slots RB/RWB.

Another in today would be good, followed maybe by an out of contract player at a later date.

I would rather watch youngsters who are a bit raw, rather than people like Eastwood, Bell and McIndoe who were here for an easy pay cheque and didn't give a fuck.

Why are you trying to use Murphy to dodge the weaknesses in your own arguments? Even I think that we could do with him in the squad this year, so that should tell you something.

No, this time last year I was enjoying winning games, and took it one week at a time, because I'm a Coventry fan and that's the way it is.

We had a slow start because our team isn't good enough, is that a knee jerk reaction, or reality? Do you think our team now is better than last year?

Supposedly an adult...
