This 'difficult window for everybody' only affecting us then.

I think thats a bit OTT. Hardly anyone has brought in a new player so far apart from Forest. Cook looks a decent signing on paper, but when Davis was mentioned as a loan signing on here in the Summer he was widely ridiculed for such a poor scoring record. To be fair Dike looks a good signing for West Brom and Connolly looks a positive signing for Middlesbrough. That leaves us amongst up to 20 clubs with no signings so far so its hardly 'only us'. Even then with Wolves taking back Giles and Sanderson, Blues and Cardiff are actually in weaker positions.

Missed the Keinan Davis move. Was half expecting him to turn up here if we sold Walker.

No , would you ?
I'd question their judgement from time to time though hey ?
That's what happens in business

Impossible to get them all right, no club does. That includes those that spends 10s of millions on 1 player with no return. The point is we're competing with clubs with infinitely deeper pockets & getting an excellent return on investment 9 times out of 10.

At the same time as we were spending around £1m on Hamer on a modest salary, Forest bought Harry Arter for around £6m & reportedly on £38k per week. He's managed 90mins for them just 3 times & they now literally can't give him away.

£6m is unbelievable. Those pining after Forest's transfer activities need to be careful what they wish for.

@Skybluebeliever whilst you are here and i'm bored at work, do you have any intel if any of our younger lot will be going out on loan in Jan? Thinking people like Drysdale, Reid, Rowe, Tavares, Ngandu, perhaps even Howley?

If not no worries, thought i'd ask as curious to see where their next step of development lies.

I think the problem with letting them out on loan is who then plays in under 23’s
They are keen to have a competitive team at this level
Drysdale will be sold eventually I think , so could be loaned out
Reid, Rowe and ngandu ,I think will be unlikely to break in to first team at current levels they are at and would need a big improvement ,probably could be loaned out but trying to match a club to help them could be a challenge
Howley and Tavares are often called up to ryton to train with MR so these two could break through

Not sure Hamer has publicly said he wants off. Even if he does I imagine it will be part of a career plan he has in mind rather than the implication that he no longer wants to play for us. I would be surprised if that career plan entailed a move in this window though, as it will provide him with more limited options than he could expect to have in the Summer window, and I would expect he is far more likely to leave at that time instead.

It also makes little sense on our part to sell now as we are unlikely to get anymore money for him by selling now than in the Summer, particularly given it would also negatively impact us on the pitch by weakening our team for the remainder of the season.

The only rider on this is if of course if the club's finances are such that we have to sell, as alongside O'Hare and Gyokeres he is our most saleable asset, and of them the most likely to be sold. I hope we're not at that point but I guess we can never be sure.

Wouldn't blame him for moving on really, especially now midtable looks likely. He's at an age where he needs to consider the most important parts of his career.

Gyo is on a barren run himself which will comfortably keep him here. The summer I think or at least hope that we offload most of the players who simply aren’t up to the standard and increase the depth of Championship quality players in the squad.

That really is the crux of the problems we’re facing at the moment

With hamer I imagine his advisers are looking at development long term for him and city are a stepping stone for him and will be here for another season at most so just enjoy his talent I guess as long as it's here.

The problem is getting Championship quality players on league one wages we are paying to the current players who aren't good enough. I don't see Joy opening her purse and increasing budget by a couple of million to allow better wages even if we are getting players in on a free.

I mean if even free transfers are off the table then it’s worse than I thought

Think it's clear that the one out of ur 'assets' that will go in the summer is Hamer.

Waht did we buy him for 1.3 Million?

I think if we can get around 4 million for him hats great business.

Give MR 2.5 of that and i think he can do well with it

I'd be amazed if we get much more than 1mill for Hamer. Let's be honest he's not exactly ripped it up this season. Infact this time last year he was on something like 6 goals and 5 assists, what's he on now, 1 goal 2 assists, both from a corner? I know the role of a midfielder is more than that stat but has he really progressed? I'd argue he's regressed from the start of last season.

luxury player, we wouldn't have got him for so cheap if he was any good.

Thank Christ you don’t negotiate outransfer deals.
Everton have just paid £11m rising to £16m for an unproven right back !

centre Mid’s and centre forwards are a premium to full backs …

in the championship you can secure very material fees if you get your timing right.

we are no longer in LG1

A club like Everton or similar stature wouldn’t want him. Realistically he’ll be going abroad, at 24 his ability and ceiling is known. Patterson is 20

Please tell me you're not expecting anything like that fee for Hamer.

He's not good enough for the PL as it stands and at his age there isn't a lot more potential to tap into so you're not going to get an established club paying huge fees for him. At most you'd get a yo-yo team like West Brom or Norwich to look at him for a squad player but then you're not looking at anything over a couple of million.

Like others have said he's most likely to attract top division interest from abroad and the fees paid then are nowhere near PL teams.
