I got ridiculed the other week for saying the club was good at suppressing leaks yet here we are 2 weeks into the window with so many rumours yet no concrete action. I wouldn't be surprised if we signed someone that's never even been mentioned.

We're 66/1 because of how poor other sides are and not how good we are. If they make good signings and start getting results and we stay the same our odds will soon shorten.

We're only 8 points off 24th and 22nd have played 2 games less.

It's hardly lottery winning chances is it

It's not lottery winning odds no but it's a 1.5% probability, which feels about right.

I don't think we're in danger of going down, and I say that as someone that doesn't rate Lampard.

I'm with you with the memory thing, so I can't be trusted that far back. However, I do remember (correctly hopefully), Cattlin getting a lot of stick then there was something in the Telegraph saying his nickname was Spider. Suddenly, everybody thought he was brilliant and he responded accordingly.
Amazing how fans support (and a song) can elevate a player well beyond their actual ability. See Gary Breen and Mo Conjic.

I don't doubt your recollections, but Spider was a superb and reliable left back from a defensive point of view, and his popularity was justified. I doubt if he ever scored a goal though (I can't recall one) and I imagine he had very few assists. Those stats probably weren't gathered in those days.
