If we win today it could give DK the push to get the likes of Schlupp and if there are others over the line, 4 points away from top 6 and he could give FL what he wants

Are we signing our prospects too old?

Feel like we should be picking them up U20 so after a couple of years they’re still sold with potential and not in their mid twenties.

Bassette is miles off the level but closer to the right age. Or are all the young players with potential snapped up by big clubs too early and not let go until they’re 23?
I think in part you have answered your own question. Bassett has the promise of a young player who we might develop and sell at a profit, but he's too raw to command a regular place in the team. Most young players we can afford are probably at a similar development stage. You have to have some experienced players because you can't get away with a team full of young hopefuls. We're not a finishing school for likely lads, we are competing in a decent standard league. And if the team is not competitive the young bloods may not be in the best environment to develop and go on to better teams.

Djed Spence had a fantastic season when he went to Tottenham for a similar amount.

MVE’s season has probably been a 6/10 max. His performances hasn’t warranted those types of fees

He's had two seasons though and before that played in the Dutch top flight. Spence had one decent season at Forest. Spence though I suppose has got the British premium.

I dont disagree, I just wonder if it limits us a bit on the “buy young and cheap and develop” model.

Because of our lack of financial clout even though the rewards are greater potentially for picking somebody up earlier, the risks (that a player's potential is never realised etc) are also higher so I think we've had to sign players a step or two forward in development.

Cant see Wright going on the summer

Long injury lay off, also had a stint out last year

Plus, we have a year option on him were will.of course activate..so he will have 3 years left

The 2 that will deffo go this summer for decent money will be Sheaf and Milan

Will get close to 20 for the pair I reckon

Whilst that all makes sense I think World Cup 2026 being in the US might be a factor in Wright pushing for a summer move or not.

He's going to be desperate to get a squad place, there is risk he's going to want to be playing in a higher profile league to give him a better shot. There has been quite a bit of press about how the US have too many key players playing in weaker leagues. Hopefully it doesn't get in his or Poch's head.

Personally I think he'd be wise to stick another year settled and focused here as the key man. Took him a good while to get going when he first arrived after all.

We need an experienced Cm and experienced CB then we can genuinely challenge for the play offs
I agree as I said only need a couple of players imo. If Saddle is right, hopefully can get the Cm in. Would like Dan Barlaser as the CM. CB don’t know to be honest. Haven’t really seen any ideal players who I think would come and clubs would be open to sell.

Understand Rob Holding but feel that’s gone quiet as he doesn’t want to come. Who you’d want?

Ideally I’d be wanting us to be looking at players aged 22 or below to come in and compete for a place. Gives us a bit of succession planning. You almost need those that come good to still have a bit of development opportunity in them to command the higher prices when they turn 24-25. Easier said than done, though.

Do you not see the logical conclusion you’re missing?

Teenagers ready to play in the championship are generally out of our price range or will be picked up by bigger clubs.

Plus you can only buy what’s out there.

No.

Depends what you mean by big clubs though.

Tbh I think our training facilities and general infrastructure might hold us back in that regard, there are clubs of a similar stature that would look a lot more impressive to prospective players and their agents looking to develop their careers.

You’ll be happy when we’ve signed nobody at the end of the window then, constant excuses
And we repeat the cycle of ignoring what i said to try in vain to make your opinion valid. You said we would have won more with new signings. How? We literally have lost 1 and won 4 since the window opened. Ill wait for your answer this time

I've always presumed Wright would only stay two years. If he stays a third it's not inconceivable he could start earning the name Wrighty.

20 mill!? We will be lucky to get 4 maybe 6 for Milan and can’t see Sheaf going for same as Vic. Unless inflation has gone up. I’m starting to think Latti or Kitching will be our biggest sell on as lots of people I know really rate them in the scouting world.
