I think finding the right experienced player/s is more difficult than fans appreciate ….

Ex premier players come with very high wage expectations, even at the end of their careers.

The game is now so so fast. If you choose players who’s legs are going ( which is why they are stepping down ) they can also be exploited by the opposition unless surrounded by pace elsewhere.

Some clubs have existing players with clauses in their contracts that allow their salaries to increase if they cease to be the highest paid player at the club. ( I doubt we are one )

I think we would really benefit from a Milner, a Tarkoswki etc but they are out of our financial league. For every Milner there are lots of Sherwood’s looking for one last pay day , for every Takowski there are Hendry’s etc.

Therefore the idea that it’s criminal that we have not found / secured such players is a little illogical.

If the rumours are to be believed we tried for experienced championship players in Browne, Worall etc but they chose teams who are having much much better seasons than we are.

Always difficult to sign experience from the Premiership due to the demand the players have and as you say the wages.

IMO you’re better off looking in the championship for players who can play near the top half and have experience in this league. Can think of a few who should be available due to being ooc (Lindsay, Swift for examples)

Swift can’t get in the West Brom side …… I think we can do better.

Sure we went for Swift but wage demand was an issue?

We did under Robins.

Swift was on more than £30k a week having joined West Brom on a bosman from Reading.

Swift needed a pay off from West Brom to compensate him for a reduced package at Cov.

Not about swift per say, just saying it’s easier to find experienced players in this division who have the know how to help our current crop

Spent 2 seasons in League 1 with Millwall before they got promoted IIRC.

And that's my point. Top players do drop lower than the Prem so they can continue with their careers. Some just want to continue playing and dread retirement. The problem is taking on players that are well past their best.

Tbf, the wages the top players are on now are miles more than Wise's era so they are less likely to be bothered carrying on, plus there's lots more options like the US or Saudi.

Think Michael Keane is out of contract in the summer and would have worked with Lampard at Everton.

this Is where having Lampard will have an extra benefit, if you look at who he got in on loan at derby, even though they were summer signings, we’ll be getting some quality in, Wilson, mount and tomori, think We‘ll be very pleased with who comes in

it‘s all a dream. We also need 2.3 pts per game for the next 23 games to reach the playoffs-offs. I‘m thinking a run of undefeated home games is needed so we’ll need some good loans.

It would only be for the love of the game. Ronaldo seems to enjoy his game.

Think the play offs are out of reach so doubt we’ll be chucking money away in January, Raphael will be like a new signing Allen back and wright so expect a couple of loans to get us through until the summer,

Probably because our squad needs to be developed still? Maybe loans to transfer at the end of the season if they make a difference?

have you seen us defend mve needs A rest but we’ve got no cover at RB, depends If king still thinks a play off push is still on, if he does then it won’t be just with these players, we need some help,

Not every player wants to leave family/friends behind and kive thousands of miles away.

Wise continued because of his love for the game and not the money. There's plenty more that dread the day they have to permanently hang their boots up. But there's also many more that can't wait so they don't have to train all the time and have their lives dictated by football.

I just hope Lampard knows a player or two that's coming to the end of their career that would be happy to give us a season or so. We'll find out between January and the start of next season.

We need new defenders they don’t have to be loans.

We are out of the play off race and too good to go down. What are we building with loans this season ?

5th place is only on 38 points. Any side that goes on a run has a chance. Only the top 4 sides have consistency. We still have half a season to go.

Tbf Wise is the exception, and Joe Cole to a lesser extent because we were in league one. Our experience at the city has been for every Dennis Wise we get 20+ Tim Sherwoods.

We prob will sign some but loans is the cheaper option until we can add in the summer. Can get a quality prem player in on loan. Difficult to sign one,

Of course it's all a gamble. The one advantage we have is having a manager who played with and against this type of player we could be interested in. He would have a decent idea on who could do a good job for us.

The difference is wise wasn't a gamble he has played 3.5 seasons in the championship when we signed him.

Michael Keane
Philip Billing

No he didn't. Millwall were League 1 until the last season after getting promoted. And he must have been about 38 when he joined us. That alone was a gamble.
