why do people start crying 3 days into the transfer window when they don’t know anything is happening at all

genuinely acting like little boys

I am responding to transfer rumours on the transfer thread, giving an opinion on an internet forum.

If that means I’m acting like a little boy (weird) then sure.

Just to sum up today. People are annoyed we have no money and annoyed we haven’t signed anyone yet.

But we will happily say goodbye to our only right back, our best centre back and leader atm, and our best player last year.

And then trust the recruitment team we all hate to spend any money we get from those players appropriately.

Oh God no. Austin is going to piss it all up the wall again.

You’ve lost your head on day 3 because of a few tidbits with absolutely no firm evidence anyone is coming or going

“what a season we’re having”
“glad we’re still moving forward as a club”

you’ve had a mare mate

What a season we are having.

If rumours are true, we’re losing one of the best RB’s in the league (and our only one!), our best player (even if off form) and Captain, and one of the only leaders we have in squad.

Good to see we’re continuing to move forward as a club.
It’s a good job you can’t believe all the rumours then !!

Maybe it’s about how you think about it ??

to my mind this is how our model works. We bought NVE at a good price. Now a champions league club want to buy him and at a price that will enable us to not only replace him but strengthen other areas too.

We have learnt our lessons from COH and don’t want to lose another key asset on a free and again if we can secure the right deal and right replacement we will sell Sheaf.

In doing both we help Frank reshape the underperforming squad in his image, addressing missing capabilities, and we ensure the club is sustainable.

Doesn't seem that negative to me.

For me I have no issues with this as a model at all the trouble is the timing of it. January is not a good time for replacing key players. It’s a good time to bolster the squad or shift on unwanted players or those that are refusing to sign contracts that run out the end of the season. But anyone who has a player they don’t want to sell is gonna charge a premium so replacing key players with similar quality is difficult no matter what level they are playing at.

if we sell MVE we literally have no natural first team right back. So we become desperate to buy one no matter what. Other clubs will know this so anyone we’ve been targeting will cost us more than they are worth.

If we had a decent enough backup I’d say yeh go for it but unless we have a deal 100% lined up as a replacement or at least a top quality loan then I wouldn’t sell him now. it’s a big risk given our current lack of depth in this area and our league points/position. I was hoping we’d add a player in this position not one in and one out as one injury there could really shaft us. We’ve been lucky up to now.

It's how we've nearly always been run since the Bosman ruling. Just like most football clubs.

You bring in players. You try to develop them. If someone wants your player they need to offer you enough to tempt you to sell. You replace the player and start again. But since Bosman you need to do it before the players run down their contracts or sign a new one.

It's nothing new.

That’s not true.

The model under SISU was to sell our players on the cheap late in Jan and to use the money to fund the operating losses. The money wasn’t used to reinvest inn the playing squad.

I get that but if we got the million as rumored and his wages. Surely that’s enough for one or two reinforcements?
it would only be stockpiling if we kept the players after the summer and kept adding

we know and have identified weaknesses and we will improve those areas regardless of who leaves

also there's money in the budget anyway, we targeted a few pretty expensive midfield options in the summer and that budget is unspent
Are you pretending to be an ITK now as well as being a prick ?

Like I said nearly always.

That's like saying we frequently go and play home games outside our own city. It's true if you word it like that but only happened with SISU.

Sure about that? Nearly gave Cardiff the win on Wednesday and made a pretty big cock up against WBA.

I’m not convinced by him as a CB in a back 4.
He’s cocked up twice this season and thats why we can remember them.
He’s been solid defensively in the main.
Look at the rest of the squad and the mistakes they make week in week out and his two stand out purely because they are the exception not the norm.
Hes not our best footballer by a long way but probably is our best defender by a long way.

I don’t agree, when he’s played in defence, we rarely keep clean sheets. There was a moment v Plymouth that probably should’ve led to them having a 1v1 when Lati misjudged his run. Lati is a lot more exposed playing as a CB in a flat back 4 as opposed to back 5.

Even look at moments like Wolves in the cup to show how many unforced errors he can make.

Can’t believe Doug hasn’t come out and doubled down on his deck comments
Best set of players the club has ever had
Most money spent on a deck we have ever had but unfortunately it looks like the deck isn't worth half of what we spent on it now.after Everton pre season I thought our deck was top two feel pretty silly now

It’s only a few players short of being a really good team. The underlying metrics show that, we’re just a naive team defensively and in attack the midfield lacks penetration, both of which were an issue last season. We barely kept a clean sheet from Feb and our record against top half teams was dire last season.

This euphoria going into the season should’ve been tempered because if you look at our business, we hadn’t addressed the lack of quality in midfield and defence. All we’d done is get Rudoni in for COH, Dovin and two strikers for the rotation.

The above is still good business imo. However, we’ve not actually improved our defensive options and we’ve actually let our headcount for CM and AM drop by 2 players without replacing them (Palmer and Kelly). Eccles, Torp and Sheaf, therefore, need to cover more minutes than before. In a 50+ game season, it all adds up and I’m certain that Sheaf’s struggles this season is because he’s just not 100% fit.

Again, we’ve let Godden, Kelly and McFadz leave without adding any experience to the deck and imo, this needs addressing asap. Even 1-2 players who don’t necessarily have to be starters.

I echo this sentiment. This is where I’m at too.

I still feel it’s more a balance issue / personality issue rather than ability and I think 2-3 players can make a massive impact with that. Whether we get the right players in can be called into question though 😂
My hypothetical question to anyone who thinks this team is rubbish is: how good would this team be if we added a quality midfielder like Hamer/Sainz/Nunez to the team? Likewise, imagine had we signed Joe Worrall.

It’s only 2 players but completely changes the dynamic of the team.

I don’t want to criticise Eccles or Sheaf, but last season and this season, they’re trying to fill that void left by Hamer and they’re not consistently able to do the things he did well. Take Plymouth on Boxing Day, Eccles put in a better performance than I can remember from a midfielder with just his passing. However, he nor our other options can come close to that on a weekly basis and Hamer would dominate the midfield against the best teams in the league. Eccles, Sheaf and Torp don’t dominate against the best teams in the league.

The consensus on here at the start of the season was that it was the best squad we’d ever had at this level.
We could all see weaknesses in the squad. There were pages of discussion on whether a back up right back or a first choice left back were more important. Discussions over the need for a CB the general consensus was that 4 players for 2 positions was enough. There was also lots of discussion on need for a midfielder. So we as a fan base identified 4 key problem area (I presume the club could see the same issues). There is depth to the squad and back up players are theoretically stronger but the gaps we had all identified are still there which probably leaves us having a good squad but weak first XI. Also think the Everton result made us all think that maybe we were better than we actually were

I'm still slightly dumbfounded how people think in a squad that is almost entirely below par this season, we're suggesting selling the players who we know on their day are some of our best. For example, who is this cretin chomping on about MVE?

Selling our best talent for a few quid and hoping we find something better in the January window is the definition of relegation trajectory.

We need a flood of new blood to boost confidence and give new life to our best talent, not replace them.

Yeah for me I think the main things we need are an experienced CB and progressive midfielder.

If MVE goes we will need a right back who can hit the ground running / needs limited settling in time.

If Sheaf goes add another defensive midfielder to that and they can be a slightly older player too.

That’s quite a high mid season turnover I realise, but would give them a bit of time to get used to things for next season when we win the league…

Lati is the kind of squad player you need. Versatile, tough. But that he is 1st team and not bench is an indictment. He is now ranked above two CB's we paid good money for.

I agree, pragmatically, if a team wants to pay good money for him, you’d be silly not to bank it and then revinest in a starting calibre player. Thomas is our best defender and we still need better than him.

I don’t recall many or anyone predicting we wouldn’t be at the other end of the league and challenging for promotion.
