So what? He scored 2 v Wolves, 1 against Man U and Leeds.

This scored in ‘x’ league games stat is a distortion of stats. Wright only scored in 12 league games and he’s a penalty taker, in fact, open goals only, they scored in the exact same amount of games.

To compare, I’m going to deliberately distort Gyokeres’ record in 22/23 using your methodology. Vik played 50 games for us in 22/23 and he scored 22 goals over 19 matches. Which means he didn’t score in 62% of his appearances. Only 4 (18%) of his goals were scored against a team placed higher than us in the table (Sheff U, Millwall, Watford and Sunderland).

With some effort, you can distort stats to fit a narrative.
Re the penalties, genuine question…

Would you feel confident with our £8m number 9 taking a penalty?

Simms is never in a world where Keith O'Neill exists going to be our worst "pound for pound" signing
Bit before my time tbf. But a quick internet search will tell you he had a degenerative bone disease while with us and is now disabled.

If, and I hope it doesn’t, something similar happens to Simms, I will quite rightly apologise.

You cannot compare Wright and Simms. When Wright is not scoring, he’s creating. Always a threat. Simms on the other hand offers us absolutely nothing.

Can’t run in behind, can’t hold the ball up, doesn’t win many headers. I am astonished at the amount of people that are happy with the return we are getting from him.

He can, he’s scored 2 headers this season and scored at least 3-4 last season. Similarly, he does run behind, his goals v Plymouth, Stoke, Bristol away and even Sakamoto’s goal v Cardiff was created by Simms getting in behind their defence and outmuscling before getting a shot off.

For hold ups, again, watch Haji’s goal v Wolves and there’s a few examples of that kind of passage of play.

The issue is, and this applies to all of our strikers, we do not put balls in behind for strikers to run onto nearly enough.

Simms and Wright even have the same number of assists this season.

That means spending a million 23 years ago on him was even worse.

You are talking shite but it's your right to so crack on

It’s not really a relevant question because not all strikers like taking penalties. He scores enough open play goals that I’m happy with.

He developed a bone disease while with us, hardly going to criticise him. Nothing wrong with Simms, he’s just shite.

Ironic, you of all people, telling someone they’re talking shite.

yep, you are still talking shite

The reason O'Neill was shite for us is not important, he was a far worse "pound for pound" signing

Anyway crack on

Absolute clown.

I also said ‘one of’ not the absolute. Certainly wouldn’t use a guy that developed a disability as an example.

So is the fella who had a bone disorder a better signing than someone who scored 19 goals last season?

No, end of really

You’re completely missing the point, I wouldn’t even compare the two.

You are literally using someone that is disabled as an argument in your defence of Simms. Does that not say it all?

the point is it doesn't matter why they were bad, just that they were bad

the argument isn't who is the worst non disabled player, it was the wort pound for pound player and we spent what was a small fortune then on some whop turned out could hardly walk thus he was a worse signing.

Anyway, you crack on being wrong

How can I be wrong? I have stated an opinion based on facts. All you’ve done is shout about how one player 23 years ago may be a worst pound for pound signing. I never said there weren’t others by the way, just said Simms was up there.

The fact he’s the one you think of suggests that in fact, you don’t rate Simms that highly at all. Just being argumentative, as usual.

Happy to agree to disagree. Really hope I turn out to be wrong re Simms, but I just cannot see it.

2 goals in 23 games this season, for the fee paid, you are happy with that?
How many minutes has he played? He’s started 10 games and no consecutive starts since September.

We’re not getting anything out of any of our strikers because let’s not forget that BTA and Bassette only cost £1m less than Simms. Simms cost £3.5m upfront with incentives taking it to £8m which haven’t been fulfilled yet.

All of our strikers can’t be useless.

2 goals in 10 starts is hardly a good return though. There’s a reason he hasn’t had consecutive starts and he is clearly behind Bassette in the managers eyes.

Bassette shouldn’t be leading the line this early but is being thrown in because the manager(s) don’t trust Simms.

BTA just as useless btw.
