Should have brought Kane on instead of switching Eccles to RWB
Yup his passes from RWB set up both the pen and Hamer's shotCredit for Eccles for a nice ball into Waghorn's feet in the run up to the goal, he's been criticised for safe passing but that is the type of adventure that opens the game up
I imagine he will be given a break on Tuesday with Sheaf coming back. However, he will be a little unlucky, given the wins and clean sheets whilst he has been playing. Sheaf is a more consistently accurate passer, but Eccles has telescopic legs and is decent in the air. I think he has more pace than Sheaf too.
I thought he was terrific in the week, not as good today had a few loose touches and gave the ball away a few times. But still a decent performance. Think he will be take out on Tuesday though.
I think he struggles every game he plays. Gives the ball away a lot, bottles out of 50/50 challenges. Sorry but he’s not the reason for our recent form.Thought he really struggled first half , was alot better after minute 60
Thought we really missed Sheaf today, both defensively and as an out ball, Eccles needs to watch his positioning and work on his upper body strength before he’s ready to be a Championship CM IMO. I could see him getting time at RWB in the mean time.
Listening back to the phone in I think Oggy made a strong point that with our more defensive set up there's less of an obvious out ball for the midfielders to go for, as Bidwell and Dabo are less advanced. He remains a work in progress but I think he has to either play in midfield or not at all.
I would argue RWB is in midfield. Ideally we’d loan him out to L1 where he can get a run of games in his best position, but he’s not going to get ahead of Hamer/Sheaf/Kelly for a sustained period here.
On the out ball I agree going forwards and thought Palmer especially needed to improve there. But Sheaf is so good in those tight defensive areas and that’s what we lacked a lot today.

Absolutely back him keep him here and fight for a place but for fuck sake keep him away from RWB for the time being... he is young and naive playing against some seasoned pros he will develop better here than against some of the cloggers in league 1Three wins on the bounce and he’s still being doubted by some on here
The comments when he was starting against Cardiff were odious by some on here
As for the he needs to be loaned out brigade , do wins against Cardiff , Sheff United and Stoke , two of those away just show his mentality
Back this lad cause he is already a very competent member of our first team squad , and for me one who will get better and better the more he plays
It’s nothing to do with Eccles our recent form. It’s a team game and the whole team has pulled together. Like some have already said above he was non existent in the first half yesterday. They nearly scored after about 10 mins from him giving the ball away which then led to them having 3 corners in a row.Three wins on the bounce and he’s still being doubted by some on here

I just don’t see it with Eccles. What’s his outstanding attribute? There’s nothing he can do better than Gus, Sheaf or even Kelly. He’s an Adam Walker regen.
Feel free to prove me wrong

He's a decent squad player, and a good option to have on the bench.
He can certainly do a job if you want to see out a game.
As a no nonsense player to protect the back four, I think if he can stay clear of injury as he plays more games and becomes more comfortable and experienced he could be a very useful player for us in the next few years.Agreed, happy to have around the squad on the bench as one of our lower earners, can’t have everyone on the big bucks but don’t see him as a starting player personally. I hope his injuries are behind him now but he usually appears to be in that Kelly and Godden mould of injury prone.
I’m not afraid when I see him on the pitch but also I don’t see us progressing up the ladder with him in the lineup but he does a job

This. At the minute looks like the typical ten a penny midfielder who if he leaves there’s always another one around the corner. Don’t mind him as a squad member who will be on a minimal contract and can come in and do a job in more than one position when injuries arise.Agreed, happy to have around the squad on the bench as one of our lower earners, can’t have everyone on the big bucks but don’t see him as a starting player personally.
