Really like Eccles, but he’s currently the sixth choice CM under Lampard - unless the plan is to sell Sheaf then the writing is on the wall for him.

I don't seen that at all. He offers something quite different to Rudoni and Grimes and Allen.

He's not featuring at the moment, but we have just won 4 in a row. Be madness to now change the side in order to include him.

He's a great option to have.

Just because he's not playing at the moment, doesn't mean he's not in Lampard's plans.

Best-case scenario for him at the moment is that he's the full-time backup for Torp - I doubt he'll be happy with that, especially having just signed a new contract.

Eccles was literally our best and most consistent player for the first half of the season.

The idea that he is suddenly just surplus to requirements is nonsense.

Will Grimes impact his game time? Absolutely. Can he still play a role in this squad? Absolutely.
Exactly this. ⬆️

Thats the forum though, you’re either a world beater or shit/surplus to requirements nothing inbetween

Every year he has improved and in my opinion will have a career in the championship. So for me the its not, is he good enough for the championship, it's does his ability and ceiling match the ambitious of the club.. Im not sure he is a top 6 starter but id keep him in the squad until either good money is offered or Eccles states he wants out ..

eccles even if you think he isn't good enough for the first xi is good and consistent back up at least

exactly this - he is in my opinion in between, he’s not a world beater but he’s also not shit, and definitely a decent squad option

he needs to improve his consistency, and also his concentration in games, and maybe dial his attitude down a notch or two, but we have seen glimpses of his capability when he’s on it so one to keep around for now

…unless of course Stoke come in with an offer too good to turn down!!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eccles bounce back like Simms. Bassette was being picked ahead of him, the coaching staff have obviously been working on a few things and Simms came back focussed and hungry. As weird as it sounds it’s almost like Eccles was maybe a bit overawed by lampards arrival. He’ll be learning from one of the best in the business in his position and I can only see that helping take Eccles up another level or two

It's not that I don't think he's up to standard - he clearly is. But I can't imagine him being happy with the amount of game time he's currently in line for.

In my opinion his inconsistency is what holds him back. He probably plays well once every five games. When Sheaf has been injured more often than not he has been very poor.

When a player like Eccles has been our best player it shows how poor we have been. I actually think he's been more consistent at right wing back.

If we are going to be a top six side at this level Eccles won't be here unless it's as a very bit part squad player.

Would you take an upgrade on him Absolutely!
He still has too many mistakes in him for my liking but up until the Lampard appointment he was doing well but with the obvious one of passing the ball straight to the opposition, was it against Sheff Weds? ,that cost us ultimately an equaliser and that seemed to get him dropped by Lampard and I would think he knows a decent midfielder when he sees one. I think it was strange that he has signed an extension unless dodgy Dougs going to try and get an inflated price for him, but Footballs a funny old game and who knows he may hit heady heights under Frank !

I pretty syre Eccles wont go anywhere by his choosing. He loves the place and would have to be made to leave

He's a great player, going through what is obviously a bit of a difficult time having to sit out. He'll have his opportunity back in the team I am sure, and I expect he'll do well with it. One of our most solid players really, but I do think it is fair to say he has struggled a bit recently when playing too. I really hope we don't sell him, as he's the kind of player that really improves the standard of the overall squad.

Great?

He's a good player. But great?

He's only really been abysmal at times recently. For the last couple of seasons I would say he has been one of our most consistent performers when he has played. I would actually say there is a case to argue he was one of our best players last season too.
A steady eddy with the talent to potentially be more is where I am at currently with him.

If he doesn't leave I'm sure he'll get some game time soon enough with us and hopefully can play into form

He’s a versatile player and like Lats that will probably save him. He’s probably our second choice RWB, could fill in on the wing or anywhere in CM, even at CB at a push.
There’s not one alternative universe that would see Eccles fill in at CB.

The one thing Kitching and Allen have shown is be patient, train well, listen to what the coaches say and you will get your chance. You then need to deliver, basically sieze the opportunity and you can keep your place.
I think Ipswich is going to be huge for a few players, Binks, Dasilca, Eccles, Bassette, Sakamoto possibly Raphael, Burroughs, Wilson, Howley may get an opportunity at some point in the match if not loaned out before. Do wonder if EMC will make the bench for Leeds and Ipswich too.
So an opportunity for some of the current t bench warmers and squad players to take that opportunity
