Jack Grealish, 100 million, lets have a look at what that got them in return:
26 games (probably half of them started)
3 goals
3 assists

7 games in the UCL
1 goal
1 bust up
Called someone a c**t

EFL cup 1 game and I believe it was against Swindon

its all good though because he got 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 FA cup games

edit : English tax makes up for the £100m

I'm not sure 1 player is an example of man city NOT recruiting well ..

Guardiola has won 9 trophies with them

An example of a club that's recruited poorly would be Manchester United

The English tax doesn’t exist. The tax is on premier league clubs signing other premier league players.

Economically, our Premiership teams do not need to sell tickets to break even. Whereas Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A have teams that need to sell players to break even.

That’s why Everton can demand £60m for Richarlison or Southampton could demand £80m for Van Dijk before it was obvious he was world class. Neither of these players would’ve demanded such fees had they played for middle to lower ranked teams in other European leagues.

Their owners don’t really need to care about overpaying with transfer fees. It’s not like us, where we’re one Waghorn away from poverty at any time.

I assume Phillips will help Man City fill their homegrown quota for the Champions League?

Over the long term Grealish will be a success, and quite probably next season even.

'The midfielder is expected to provide back up for Rodri at City in the single defensive midfield position favoured by manager Pep Guardiola'

Shows that Phillips would rather be a back up with money rather than a first team player week in week out. No doubt Southgate will still pick him!

He's ok but Rice is the better player in that position for club and country

He will stay play around 25 games due to the amount of games City have to play. Even or not too far behind a lot of other players in the England squad

and an example of that poor recruitment is signing Ronaldo whose individual stats are great but doesn’t fit the team.

People focus way too much on individual player end product these days and not what they do for the whole.

He’s hardly shite is he? Not a glamour player no but blimey, promoted with Leeds and stayed up, England fixture to euros final and now fancied by Pep. Jordan Henderson was never a fashionable signing but has been vital for Liverpool.

Agree Rice is the better player though, doubt many, if any, would think otherwise. Probably cost three times as much and expect to play every game.
