Malaga looked good against Sheffield united apart from two bad passes.so it's a bit of a strange one but we don't no what goes on in training.

With Coventry City, I've seen far stranger things! I know it's unlikely, but Wood and Cameron haven't had a full season for us due to injuries, Edge pulled up against MK Dons, Brown looks as though he could get himself sent off at anytime with his sketchy defending. I was just making the point that if we were forced to call on him, would he care?

The simple fact is that Robins stated his intentions...which was essentially to look at what he's got, try to get what he's got to things his way, get rid of those that cannot or will not do it his way &/or are not fully committed to the club.
Some of us may have wondered how & when or even if we would see anything different...well - there's the answer!
I was hoping for Wise, but got Robins...& have to admit that he is increasingly gaining my confidence as he's having the impact I hoped to get from Wise. Still very early days but he looks like he might well be the right man.

Just look where Malaga played his football prior to us. He played 19 games for Nice B. That is in Group E of the FIFTH division of French Football - or to give its proper title - Championnat de France amateur 2. Some great teams there - Borgo (1.300 capacity a small town in Corsica). There is Feurs a club in a town with a population of 7,000.

This is very low level. The likes of Brown and Wood who some slate here would be Gods if they played at these teams.

I would think Robins must have been perplexed by the transfer. It looks seriously odd and to hand a 3 year contract - what a joke. Just answer this - who will have the best career going forward - Malaga, Brown or Wood. It's between 2 of the 3.

He was taken on because Thorn and his staff liked what they saw when he was on trial here. From what I heard of his performances during pre-season and from what I saw against Sheffield United (couldn't make the Bury game), that isn't so far-fetched as reasons go. Particularly not if the management may have been banking on our highest wage earner with a mixed injury record (Wood) leaving the Club at that time and were not convinced about placing a full season on Willis or even Cameron (who I think has been prone to several dodgy moments in the past... not saying anything about his credentials, other than people might be wise to not put too much pressure on him as being a definitive answer to centre back woes for the rest of this season and beyond).

Onwards and upwards, I suspected Malaga might have been worth a place in our squad from what I had seen of him, but I have not seen even as much as Robins in his short tenure as manager (and we are going to need someone up front if McGoldrick returns in January).

It ain't Wood, and I doubt Brown will play many for Manure. But he's the youngest, so will probably take his 50p head to a lower league side (err ...) and spend a fair length of time there.

well i guess what i like about it is that either way robbins has a plan. he has been at the club for two weeks and for whatever reason(here we can only speculate) he as decidided that Malaga is not right for how he sees the club> is there any point waiting around and then offloading him. We may prefer him than someone else but Robbins does not. I like that he is moving quickly about his business.

If you base how silly someone looks on two fairly innocuous words on an internet forum, you are a better judge of character than me or have an axe to grind. He will look silly for a variety of reasons, I am sure, but I don't think writing 'daft decision' on SBT is going to rank in the top five.

It's just forming an opinion though without being in possession of the full facts.

Anytime a player is dropped I do wonder why, but would never say it was a daft decision because I don't see what the manager sees.

Simply wrong to say Malaga going on the transfer list is a daft decision without knowing anything at all as to what is going on behind the scenes.

Myself, I would like to see what the likes of Lynch has to say on the subject before even beginning to form any opinion whatsoever.

Well if he's miles better than Wood I am sure a high ranking Championship club will be signing him in January.

Either that or he will be back in the French 5th division.

I live in France and follow French football a bit. Nobody I have spoken to here has ever heard of the guy.

French defenders tend to man-to-man marking rather than zonal marking. He would have to relearn his trade while not being able to speak the language.

Every football fan - Lynch included - forms opinions without being in possession of the full armoury of facts. What's more, what we see on a Saturday feeds in to this impression we have started to form (sometimes in isolation, sometimes among others). Someone writing 'daft decision' on a football forum because they haven't minded what they have seen of Malaga but have been disappointed in what they have seen of Wood and Brown isn't so ridiculous in my eyes, but that is by the by.

Don't know the ins and outs, but good luck to the bloke, he and edje are the more compitent of the central defenders i've seen this season, Brown is Awful and Woody is going backwards.

I trust Robins's judgment so won't say the decision is wrong! Our squad is way too big and over the next several months we'll see Robins building his own squad, with many comings and goings.

In Robins we (must) trust! PUSB :claping hands:

Well I find it ridiculous. It is jumping to conclusions while in possession of very little information.

Fine for someone to be puzzled and wonder if it is the right decision, but wrong to come out and say it is an incorrect decision.

At least let Robbins come out and say what the reason is first.

I don't get this at all as a tactical decision. He is a competent CB who looked solid when I saw him play in pre-season. If you were looking to free up wages there are other players I would list before Malaga. Must be something more to this!

We just don't see what goes on behind the scenes do we.

I know nearly everyone on here seems to think there is nowt wrong with Cody McDonald's fitness. Robbins seems to think there is though.

Who are we to argue? Maybe he is just saying that to cover something else, maybe it's true.

I would be very interested to see what the manager has to say about Malaga for sure.

I haven't seen any matches at that level but the standards in France fall pretty quickly. Division 2 contains many really weak teams. The reserve teams in the lower divisions often win their leagues but are banned from promotion.

He was at a good club, Nice, but he didn't get in the first team.

Exactly. We don't see him in training, we don't see his ability in training sessions, how he fits in with the team, how he communicates and interacts.

It is a stupid knee jerk comment.

Robins is the manager and he has decided that this guy isn't good enough. Who are we to judge, he hasn't exactly proven himself. He may not have done a lot wrong but the reality is we have 6/7 CB's ahead of him, he was stupidly signed on a 3 year deal so what good is loaning him. Put him on the transfer list and accept any realistic offer that comes in, then send him packing. He has had no experience playing at any decent level of football. Don't know what Thorn was thinking on that one. Perhaps he said I like this guy from Malaga, the line was dodgy and Waggott thought he said I like this guy called Malaga? Who knows...

In Robins We Trust.

He sees and knows these players a lot more than we do, if he thinks that Malaga isn't good enough, then I trust his judgement.

I'm sure Malaga is just the first of many to be shown the exit door.

Waggott would have sealed the three year deal for Malaga not Thorn, yet another example of his shrewedness in the negotiating department:jerkit:
Throughout the Sheff Utd game, Shaw was bollocking Malaga for his positioning, holding the line even, natural basics for a defender but obviously these attributes not in Malagas toolkit.
Yes he did look good in the opposition penalty area but we signed him as a CB not a CF.
