Seeing him play in pre-season....can you not read?
Waggott would have sealed the three year deal for Malaga not Thorn, yet another example of his shrewedness in the negotiating department:jerkit:
Throughout the Sheff Utd game, Shaw was bollocking Malaga for his positioning, holding the line even, natural basics for a defender but obviously these attributes not in Malagas toolkit.
Yes he did look good in the opposition penalty area but we signed him as a CB not a CF.
Ah ok. I assumed you missed some parts of your post out. So you've never seen him in training, never seen him in interaction with the squad but you have seen him against Hinckley...or was it Nuneaton?
But you'd conclude it was worth writing him off after seeing what? 5 games?
he's played what like 6 league games and you want him gone? unlike malaga jennings has played at a decent level and speaks english
So Waggott signed him. He oversaw the trial and training not the manager? Of course he did. What did thorn do then? Dress in a beret and striped jumper to seal the deal?
Suppose makes as much sense as people acclaiming him as a great player without actually seeing him play.
Which, to be fair, was done with virtually all the new signings before they'd started.
What did thorn do then? Dress in a beret and striped jumper to seal the deal?
Some people, just maybe, might have watched him play in Scotland or the Champions League and made an informed decision on his qualities, couldn't they?
Here comes Grenduffy yet again to defend the record of Waggott The Innocent, in stark contrast to the myopic slander afforded Thorn.
We're all still awaiting your narrative on the 'great job' he did at Charlton too; just as he steered the ship that took them down. Are you his press agent? Or his Mum
Why are people trying to lay blame !!
Even the top clubs can spend 20 million on a player and it still doesn't work out.

The top clubs can afford to.

You know we are still not doing well when an innocuous thread about a newly transfer listed player, moves through people voicing their opinions on said player, through to thinly veiled pops at one another, past the blame game for said signing, and back to the same old bollocks once more.
When I watched him against Hinckley, it was blatantly obvious that he was not up to the task asked of him - decidedly poor. At that time I believe he was on trial. How on earth a supposedly skilled scout could sign such a useless player is beyond me.
I just get the feeling Thorn got the word that SISU were going to ditch him, and just couldn;t be bothered anymore. Certainly With the excpetion of McGoldrick (he came just after he left), none have exactly shone in terms of ability.
Why on earth SISU didn't just ditch him in may - rather than pat out on a year's salary.
How can these clowns be allowed to get their grubby little claws on the ricoh - utter madness
Ginettas' law:
As an SBT discussion grows longer, the probability of an attack on Andy Thorn approaches.

Not really surprised by this, my opinion is that Malaga isn't really that good and i'd much rather have Cameron in the team.
This just shows what a poor decision it was by our owners not to give what little funds we had to the manager we were going to stick with or have for this season.
Agreed. Stick with Thorn beyond three games this season or sack him in the close season and let the new man bring in players he wants. Didn't ever appear to be rocket science.
I think he should have been sacked long before the end of last season, but didn't happen.
Imagine the scenario though:
Thorn sacked at the end of the season, new manager given the same amount of funds that Thorn had in the close season.
Cue outrage of "Why was Thorn not allowed to stay, with this backing he'd have had us walking the League, and would have signed much better players than this French nobody and the other load of wasters, such as Jennings, Barton, Ball, Elliott etc."
Don't be ludicrous, we all know Fergie couldn't do any better.
Come on that's not fair. Fergie, Wenger and the special one together couldn't have done any better.
I wonder worry too much about Malaga MMM. He can now go and join the Premier League team that were after him. He can link up with Alex Nimeley. Perhaps your friend Thorn is there as well.

Obviously Thorn identified the player, but as Director of Football, then Waggott would I presume negotiate with the player and his agent over any contractual details which would be the length of contract, wages and bonus payments.
Thorn wouldn't be controlling the purse strings as I'm sure Robins isn't either.
I imagine that he has been in talks with a top club since he got sacked, would anyone really be surprised? He is one of, if not the next top upcoming manager and his style of football would only suit a top, top team.
Expect to see Thorn, Malaga & Nimley together in the Champions League in a couple of years, I am just glad he was here and left us with a team of gems to be proud of.
