I'm not calling him a liar, Snozzer is.
Snozzer was told by Andy Thorn that in the last January window we were going to be signing Nile Ranger on loan from Newcastle, but couldn't because no board members would answer the phone so he could do the deal.
Nile Ranger was however sent back to Newcastle from Barnley late December with a foot injury, which would keep him out for at least 3 months, he then went on loan to Sheff Weds in March when his injury cleared up.

Somebody is telling porkies, though wouldn't have put it past Thorn to try and sign somebody on loan who was already injured.

Its feasable. During that time Thorn mentioned that he was in talks with a Premier League manager who he used to play with about the possibility of a loan.

Still doesn't take away from the fact that he was injured, and expected to be out for three months during the time of this alleged loan.

Mansfield fan here (in peace) just come on here to look at the fallout from our game on Saturday, and look at any possible team news for tonight (we could do with you doing us a favour really.)
On our own board, there's talk of Evans taking the managerial vacancy at Peterborough simply because he's the bookies favourite. I post on there and tried to explain that with next manager betting markets, it really doesn't take much money and betting volume to make the odds plummet on a particular option. That got me explaining how I used to be a member of a betting syndicate that when bored with nothing of significance to bet on, we used to do things like make obscure managers betting favourites for particular jobs just to see the reaction....or the big tradition was on deadline day, we used to make transfer rumours up and see how far we could get them to go....
That obviously led me here! I'm amazed this thread still exists to be honest!
It looks as though the rumour gained a bit of notoriety on here back in the day, I've just read through the thread and it is quite funny!
Just to shed light on a few things having read through it;
Kurt Drago is/was in fact a real player. He was a member of the PGA syndicate and that's where the idea started. Coventry were chosen simply because you are a sleeping giant, you have a large fanbase who could spread the rumours far and wide, without being at a level where the national media would do extensive research to ensure these rumours were true. Obviously we'd done it previously with the Frankie Hullett thing to Palace, but media rumbled it because of the level Palace were at, they looked into the rumour and discovered it was a fake much faster than anticipated.
Kurt himself played for a team called Naxxar Lions at the time, and his Dad was the Chairman of the club. They gained promotion to the Maltese first division in the same season we won the Conference. Our current Chairman has the main bulk of his insurance business banking in Malta (probably for tax purposes) and the following pre-season after promotion, he stated he'd like to take the team on a pre-season tour to Malta as a reward for promotion. No opponents were announced though, so as luck had it, I knew Kurt through the syndicate, so was able to help the club arrange a friendly against his Naxxar Lions club by him getting in touch with his Dad and bringing the two parties together.

Kurt played and they held us to a respectable 0-0 draw! (With Kurt at centre half, so he wasn't an entirely terrible player as you all thought!)
We have since been back to Malta this pre-season but we didn't play them this time around.
Also to clear things up, the cringey posts asking Drago to retweet and saying things to him like "They'd seen him play and couldn't wait for him to sign" etc were PGA members too. That's how well constructed the hoax was at the time!
Anyway, it was a good 5 years ago now, but a few of you probably still remember it well! Good luck tonight against Wycombe! Do us a favour please!

We do have a bit of a good record v Wycombe home and away its nice to say we a bit of a bogey team for them.
