Fadz will every now and then have a game where he completely shits the bed, but every summer I think its time to replace him and he just keeps going and somehow seems to get better. I think it will be Kitching and Thomas either side of Fadz this season for the most part.

Barnsley.

We would like to thank Liam for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

Kitching said: “I’m excited to have the opportunity to play in the Championship this season.

“The heartbreak of losing at Wembley was one of the hardest moments of my life, but the way the Barnsley supporters backed us is something I’ll never forget.

“I’d just like to say thank you for all the memories which will stay with me forever. The club will always be in my heart.

“I leave with the team in a good place and I’m confident that with the current squad and coaching staff, the club will have a positive season. YOU REDS.”

He's been one of my favourite players of the last 4 seasons

The first time Robins puts Lati CDM instead of using Kelly will be a telling moment for Kelly
I'm sure Kelly knows he's only here for cover, and is quite happy to be used as such.

He offers the experienced head in the dressing room and is one who sets the standard in training, but can still be available to come on for the last 20 minutes of a game that we need to see out.

Mcfadzean leadership abilities are unreal, maybe Robbins is thinking Bobby Thomas could take on the leader roll?

I did think that but I'm actually not convinced the long term Fadz replacement is here yet. Can see Thomas staying in the position he's in now.

He’s been our best player this season. If anyone thinks we are better without him in our team they are wrong. We virtually collapse when he’s not in the team.
100% true, but at his age he ain't going to be playing much longer, and he's not going to able to play 2 games a week over the winter.

so I can see a slow introduction for his replacement over the next 8 or 9 months, and can possibly see Fadz retirement at the end of the season.

What Fadz does that I wish the others did is put his body on the line to block shots. He is a great communicator and really organizes things at the back as others have suggested. Also you can always count on him to chip in a few goals a season which is a big plus. He’s become a better player in the Championship than when he was in League 1 and generally makes fewer errors. Really need to have a good transition plan in place soon, once he does hang it up. But filling the void left by Gus is top priority now.

I think most defences in the Championship have at least one game like that a season, its the nature of the league.
Ours had a mare against Luton away last season as well but we got away with it by grabbing a point.

Bit of a worry for me, is how he'll get on with Godden. In the 'Liam Kitching - first words' video, he ends with some preening of his hair, and I think Matt may have a rival in the 'lovely locks' league. Trouble in the camp awaits!

Lol yes can see it now, couple of months from now cov telegraph reporting on a bust up because Kitching helped himself to some of Godden's shockwaves putty while he was showering.

The big difference for me this season is that we now have CH options on the bench that can come straight in and do a job.

Last season the only options were Panzo and Rose, I think that says ot all.

And this year we only have 1 loan defender, not 4 !!! (If you count BNC as a defender)

Depending on Collins who I haven’t seen much of yet, add a CM and I’m very happy with this first XI for the foreseeable:

Collins
Thomas Brekalo Kitching
MvE CM Sheaf Dasilva
O’Hare
Simms Wright

I don’t think there’s an outfield player over 25 there (and Collins is only 26) and aside from O’Hare all on long deals. It’s a fantastic foundation for the squad.

Yeh next summer will be more a case of adding top quality to that. 3 or 4 players.

Lot of salty Barnsley fans saying we've overpaid but I'm ok with that. If MR and his team really wanted him then you know that him, Adi & Dennis will improve him greatly. Some have bemoaned the losses of Hyam, Rose, McNally, Doyle. With more than a season on permanent this batch have a higher ceiling imo. Sam McCallum arguably gone backwards since leaving, Dujon the same. Some even moaned at Tom Davies & Grimmer being allowed to move on, nice guys but upgraded, Dabo too. Only Maatsen really broke the mould, but he'll be world class anyhow imo.

Why have you ousted the Golden Glove winner?

1 of those 3 or 4 would be brekalo anyway. Possibly make a bid for binks. Centre midfielder, right back and forward on top

No-one actually knows the fee anyway.

The point was more you'll get to the point you're pretty happy with the whole first 11 but you can always and should always strive to be better, so could Robins bring in anyone to oust any of those? But yes as it stands I broadly agree on the positions of priority.

Cant see us replacing MvE next summer unless he’s sold.

It’s really hard to say before the season has been played really. I think maybe a GK but let’s see how Collins plays out, maybe an AM but let’s see how O’Hare comes back, maybe a LWB. Of course we could sell someone to fund purchases as well and need to replace.

No idea if he’s quick, but if he is:

🎶 You’ll never catch Liam Kitching
But he will catch you 🎶
We'll combine them if he's the Fadz type

We've got Liam Kitching
He's gonna get you
