There's apparently new rules that mean loan players that have had their season cancelled can now play for their parent clubs for the rest of the season. Trio now available to Blues

"After a change in EFL rules, voted for by clubs, it means players loaned out on Standard and International Loans who have returned to their parent side are eligible for them again.

Previously players were registered with their loan club for the duration of the loan, whether six months or 12 months.

The new ruling takes effect if the player is coming back from a club whose division has been curtailed or has not qualified for the Play-Offs."

With our poor performing midfield it looks like Walsh may get a chance in our final games. So, with that being said, how was he for you? His best traits, his worst, do you think he can step up and slot straight in to our team, etc? Any feedback is highly appreciated.

He was brilliant. I have no doubts that he will be good in the championship if given a chance, although it might be difficult as he's had a longer lay-off that the rest so will need to get back up to speed.

Yes. Best player I've seen in a City shirt for years. All round game is excellent. Strong in the tackle, tenacious, great with the ball at his feet, can pick a pass and got a goal in him to boot. His biggest 'weakness' was that early on with us he took risks that he shouldn't have, but that comes with a young inexperienced player, but he got rid of them very quickly.

He's a great technical player, doesn't often take someone on (apart from his wonder goal) but can pick a pass like you wouldn't believe.

Thing is though he didn't start performing until the more defensive minded Kelly was available next to him which allowed him more freedom. Early in his spell he often gave the ball away in dangerous areas which resulted in a few goals conceded, it took him a little while to settle, I think he'll be the same there.

From what I hear from my Bristol City season ticket holder friends is that you need some more steel in the middle, Walsh isn't going to offer that.

Good luck to him, I hope he makes it because he deserves it and is a fantastic player. I'd love to have him back here and I'd build the team around him but I don';t think he's ready to play a major role in a team aiming for the playoffs yet. Selfishly I'd love for him to do poorly and Johnson to decide he's dispensable.

Damn right, shocking, poor distribution, selfish, two left feet. He aint even good enough for the Gas. He needs more time learning his trade, somewhere in the midlands, probably Coventry City where he could come on for a few minutes

This could work in our favour. If goes back doesn’t play like johnson wants again - he may be willing to let him go.

He was good, although judging by some of the posts on here there is some revisionism going on, I distinctly remember he got a lukewarm reception based on his first few games where he was getting up to the pace of playing regularly.

He'll have to go through that again. He's a talented player though and it'll be interesting to see how you use him.

You will almost certainly make the play-offs now and will probably go undefeated for the rest of the season.

Generally he was excellent, started halves slowly sometimes and made a couple of mistakes, one that lead to a goal. When he was in the game he was excellent all round, passing, tackling, game management, technique all brilliant.

Turned a lot of heads. Clearly one of the best we’ve had since leaving the top tier in 2001 imo. Will be keeping tabs on his career because he’s brilliant. Basically the sun shines out of his scouse arse.

If you'd caught him in his stride at the end of our season he could probably fit straight into your squad.

With 3 months off and no preseason it would be a big ask for any player to settle into a new team at the next level up. Give him some game time at the end of the season if you have nothing to play for and let him have a fair crack at it next season.

I'll tell you how good he is - I went to Stans on half a doz occasions last season, one of those visits was in the hospitality box of the Leam & Warks supporters club (I'd won a pre season charity raffle) nearing the end of the game those present in the box were invited to choose their MOM. Liam KELLY came out with most votes. Somehow Liam WALSH ended up being announced MOM and receiving his award from Brian Roberts in the TF lounge.
That's how good he is!

Bright doesn't get a game because teams can't afford somebody who is a passenger when they've not got the ball. Willis and Sterling granted but they weren't proper standouts in the way Walsh has been this season.

Yea, don't think you can compare Walsh with Willis, one was instrumental in winning the league, the other was just a good player in a good L1 side.

Exactly. I think we can all agree that, good as Sterling was, Dabo is a level above that.

Just because one player can't step up, doesn't mean others can't. Also depends a lot on whether the system they're in suits them.

He has been my player of the season in a team that was packed with contenders for that title. I disagree with some of the comments on here as I felt he started to show his ability after about 30 mins of his debut against Blackpool. (He started slowly in that game). He did make the odd mistake early on but his class I felt, still shone through. I thought he was the player that really allowed us to play in the way we did (slick possession football) all season. I hope he does well for you if he gets the chance but would love him to come back here.
If he does play and you get promoted, that would be some accolade to have on his CV, promoted with two different clubs in the same season.

One other thing to add is that he might have been training with Bristol city for last few weeks, as he was recalled, so might be closer to match fit than we think.
Even if they didn't think they could play him, it makes sense to get him fitter to use in practice games and judge how he has progressed (albeit behind closed doors).
