We have a variety of players that can play poacher or pressing striker / workhorse / nippy striker.

I think we lack a stand in target man.

There’s little point in having players like Gus who can deliver a quality ball high if we can’t nod the odd one in.

We have onrushing midfield of Gus, O’Hare and Allen who are never going to jump high but could easily run in to a nod-down.

In our most successful times we had Cyrille, then Dublin. Times change, I get it but my mere suggestion that we get a back up target man gets ridiculed to the extent that it gets boring.

We simply don't play that style of football, even when chasing a game as evidenced last season. In fact, almost zero successful teams do anymore.

Kyle Hudlin is available for loan though...

Bored of the Hudlin thing. He had potential to be looked at for our u23s. Simple really.

There were many times last season when our style of play resulted in crosses whipped in over everyone’s head and we had to chase wide because we had no one on the end.

Them’s the breaks

Let me put this another way, for the hard of thinking like yourself:

Who have we got that can get on the end of a high cross from open play (that means not CD’s from corners and free kicks)?

Go…
You have a point we are not very good at the head high crosses that come in from open play from either wing, something to work on especially Gyorkeres he has the height and strength but his positioning not great, Dion Dublin/Alan Shearer type centre-forwards with their tremendous heading qualities seem a rare breed nowadays.

He did score one, in the last minute at home, against Blackburn. Yes he is surprisingly poor in the air although it appeared that he was working on this towards the end of the season.

If you look at our crossing, we are floatingit at head height less and less now.

When you watch Kane for example, it's always onto the 6 yard line for a tap in on goal pretty much.

There are still corners though but then you have defenders up.

Only seen Hudlin once and he looked ridiculously poor. And we really don't play that way, thankfully.

Pretty sure McCallum will be the one we may bring in before the window shuts.

He’s been playing regularly in pre season for Norwich, if 3 years after signing he’s not seen fit to be at least back up there, then the writing is on the wall for him unfortunately.

I think we lack pace far more, but maybe hat's just me.

Given the way we play, having a big lump just there to try and get their head on crosses isn't going to be that useful. Even at the end of games when we scored a lot of goals we didn't do so by lumping it in. So when is this big targetman going to play?

It'd be a bit like us signing wingers when we don't play a system that incorporates them. In theory they're useful as they offer a different option, but in reality they'd spend 90%+ of their time not playing.

Having someone physically strong up front is useful, as Gyok is, but that's a different thing from having someone there to try and score a header.

I'm not against having it as an option, I just don't think we should focus too much effort and resources on it, especially when we currently have four first team strikers, he nippy striker is likely to only be a sub, coming on against tired legs, and for that we have Tavares, who is not going to be taking up to much resources in wages. So any big targetman would need to be in a similar vein. Costello describes himself as physical, though I'm not sure he's exceptionally tall, so maybe he could look to be that person looking to get on the end of crosses?

What about this guy?

Nice and lanky, whilst also looking and moving like Hudlin. Ideal target man!

I like McCallum but do we really need him now, Centre-half is my priority.
We've got Bidwell for that position, then a couple of loanees who can play there if absolutely required and Reid as back up who MR doesn't seem to think can play LWB.

CB we've got Hyam, Fadz, Rose, Panzo and Doyle.

So I'd say LWB is a bigger priority than a CB.

I agree, pace is what we lack.

Gyokeres is a unit, godden is quite good in the air for his size, and Walker must be about 6ft 2.

What writing on the wall? If Norwich don't want him plenty will.

would ideally bring in a lwb that can cover at CB as well in light of any injuries. think McCallum would be ideal here. truthfully have not seen much of adaramola at all so not sure what to think.

Doubt we'll get one with Panzo and Doyle being left sided.

Rose Hyam Dabo Kane covers the right side
Bidwell Panzo Doyle covers the left
Fadz is the only dominant CB. It will be a CB we get in next im certain

a lwb that can cover cb would play lcb and we don't need any cover there

You follow non league pretty closely, is it fair to say there’s a general feeling of astonishment he’s managed to get this move?
