Transfer Rumour Marko Stamenic (4 Viewers)

Looked as good as any of them in the two PL team games we played. I think people vastly overrate the level of the PL for individual players. On a team level yes they can afford the best of everything and that leads to a massive gap. But I’d back any of our bigger players to make it at that level.
Sheaf has many attributes which are up to Prem level, and he deserves a chance to prove it. He still has a habit of giving the ball away a few times in most games, and his shooting is often poor, but those are things which can still be improved. However he also lacks a bit of pace/acceleration, and there's not much you can do about that.

A club the size of ManU would surprise me, but if he does get a chance of the bigtime I hope he's smashes it, because you couldn't wish for a better character.

If any PL club offers £15m+ for Sheaf we can’t turn it down. It’s the model we have now where we sell a star to reinvest in a load of new talent.

Although if a club like Man U come along we should be asking for £20m

It's what the Club has been doing for years and years.

We are the, Del Boy of the Football World. 🤣

But if Man Utd are showing (even just tepid) interest in Sheaf. Then it’s game over.

Sheaf’s value will decline next season as he’s a year older and will only have 1 year left on his deal. If we can get £20m for him, no brainer for the club.

As a fan, I’d try and do what you suggest, but can’t see it.
OK cool, its all just speculation anyway
We might sell neither but this thread is convinced they are both gone based on Saddlebrains for Eccles and a Twitter rumour for Sheaf.
It's a good problem to have if there's anything at all to it. If you're looking at a combined £20 million plus for a midfield of Eccles and Sheaf you'd be a mentalist to..
A. Think we'd turn the money down
B. Think Robins can't go and immediately improve it with that money.

2020-21 was Sheafs first season. He was 23, same as Eccles last season. I'd also argue Eccles last season was better than Sheaf 2021-22 as well
Misread as 21-22.

If you're going by age they're the comparable year. Eccles was 23 at the start of 23/24, Sheaf was 23 at the start of 21/22.

I really can't see United going in for Sheaf.

He does not fit their model in any way. Apart from them signing Daniel James and Nick Powell they very rarely sign players from below the PL.

Got a feeling someone like Forest, Everton, Fulham or Wolves may come in for Sheaf and if all of them do we could see a bidding war, and I’d be satisfied if we got Sanches, Stamenic and Browne in. Replacing 1 CM with 3, that’d leave us stacked in midfield, and we’d probably just need 1 more attacker and a keeper then we can focus on defence

So we’d lose sheaf and Eccles in consecutive years. Not to mention sheaf will be 27 with a year left on his contract, you wouldn’t get anything near the mentioned 15-20 million. This is the summer to sell sheaf.
Eccles likely won’t even be starting if we have two of Stamenic/Sheaf/Browne in the squad.

The difference between 1 or 2 years doesn’t mean much in terms of transfer fee. We got good values for Hamer and Vik with 1 year left. We’d still get 10-12m easily (and we’re not going to get 20 this summer).

Sheaf will be worth twice as much now as he would next summer, if Eccles has another good season in sheaf’s absence we could be getting a similar fee for him next summer.

Robins is pushing Doug to offer Sheaf equal top earner status and permanent captaincy for him to sign a new deal

Balls in Dougs court
Surely its in both Doug and Sheafs courts (if thats even possible?!) we could offer him the moon on a stick but he'd still have to be interested to sign it

Thats the same position as Harmer was in last year and he was sold while waiting for Doug to decide
Thats bollocks that Gimoc etc made up. Hamer was destined for the Prem and kept us on the hook as backup until it was done. Why cant people understand that we cant compete with the wages or status any Prem team can offer, its simple.

We are in a stronger position with Sheaf as he has 2 years left so we could be stubborn but if the player wants to leave there isn't much we can do about it
