He doesn't have a clue what players in the CDM do in modern teams.
It's not his job to win tackles etc, he is there to help block lanes but his main role is in possession.
He seems to think modern CDMs are like David Fucking Batty
Just read he completed the most tackles in the Championship this season. Don't know if any of them were any good and he has played every game which would bump it up.It looks like 4-3-3 will be the way forward based on the Lampards comments about wingers.
I’ve been trying to think of a player to compare Grimes to and the closest I can think of is Ollie Norwood. Very gifted on the ball, plays deep, model pro but isn’t a tough tackling, shouty captain type at all. He’ll be doing Allen’s role now with the hope that Torp and whoever else makes up the midfield 3 provides a bit of bite.
It's not fella, it's really notPeople aren't arguing, it's called a discussion. Relax
Him arguing that defensive midfielders don’t do some aspect of defending is hilariousDefensive midfielders generally break up play win the ball back and start building up play ?
Thats their main role
Traditionally they were, nowadays a lot of possession teams use them as the focal point between Defence and midfield, especially when you play shorter passes. It allows the midfield to stay further up, rather than dropping back to get the ballDefensive midfielders generally break up play win the ball back and start building up play ?

I mean depends on the system and the player. Some systems will put in a DM who is there to win the ball back and retain the ball. Ala Ben Sheaf 22/23.He doesn't have a clue what players in the CDM do in modern teams.

Traditionally yes but not always. Still think Grimes numbers would be high compared to the rest of Swansea.Defensive midfielders generally break up play win the ball back and start building up play ?

Most good teams don't though, winning the ball back is these days much more a whole team affair with pressing traps etc.I mean depends on the system and the player. Some systems will put in a DM who is there to win the ball back and retain the ball. Ala Ben Sheaf 22/23.
Some systems will want them to act more as a quarterback and move the ball and create chances from deep.
Both exist still although the later is more common in the modern game. Was just saying due to how Swansea play it’s no shock he has lower defensive stats as the team often have the ball.
Whenever I have seen him play he has been a standout player on the pitch. Maybe one of the reasons we keep doing badly against Swansea. Add this to his stats and videos you can see it isn't just against us that he does it to.He's made more tackles than any other player in the championship this season so far....
Knew a relative of a player back then. Told me Thorn only seen by the players on match day. Didn't go to training.Thorn was a bad manager, infact he was barely a manager but he still dealt a shit hand
Pretty sure he turned up for training one day in his second pre season and asked where Bigirimana was and he'd been flogged without his knowledge
As we have mentioned as well the club were openly desperate to flog Juke as well as Ben Turner at the start of the season
We were ran appallingly over those years

Quite a hotbed I think.International clearance? He's only from Wyken
I think that’s how Lampard aspires to play, didn’t the Everton and Derby fans say they played nice stuff but leaked goals for fun?I think it rather depends alot on the team , better teams like man city who as you say like to control the game don't defend as often because they've got the ball more .. but a team like Liverpool who like to disposses and counter fast will use their defensive midfielders differently..
See the interception stats for Rodri and gravenberch as an example
IIRC Carl Baker (via his wife? or have I totally misremembered?) disclosing that he had to organise his own runs etc in order to keep match fitness?Knew a relative of a player back then. Told me Thorn only seen by the players on match day. Didn't go to training.
Emulating the latter then, that'll do it?I think it rather depends alot on the team , better teams like man city who as you say like to control the game don't defend as often because they've got the ball more .. but a team like Liverpool who like to disposses and counter fast will use their defensive midfielders differently..

Here's a good article on triggers and pressing traps and how modern teams win the ball backI mean depends on the system and the player. Some systems will put in a DM who is there to win the ball back and retain the ball. Ala Ben Sheaf 22/23.

Said somewhere he did not want to leave the Midlands. Don't know if that is accurate, as a social media post. Not that it means much, but we apparently beat off Hull to get him, whether it was the fee, wages or the pull of George Boateng or a combo of any of them, something attracted him to us at the 11th hour
Emulating the latter then, that'll do it?
Not until AprilWonder how much the ni increase cost
'Look after him'Super Matty Grimes
Think it usually stays within the wage structure, with a big hello payment. On the 30K, based on the bbc he’s meant to be getting a significant pay rise.
Can’t be that far off our 25K rumoured limit so maybe there is something to it
Its so refreshing that we are destabalising a club before we play! its usually done to us! hw will be an excellent/good signing
He likes arguing for no reason
Shit, how did that turn out (apart from a small profit)?Didn’t we get to 100 before Chaplin signed?
Super Matty Grimes
yes i doNo he doesn't
uber? Doug is so potless he's making him catch the 21 by Marina fish bar and walk the rest of the wayAnyone tracking his Uber to Ryton?
I would say 'no worry lads I got this' and hide in the bushes and wait but I've already been arrested and banned from that areaAnyone tracking his Uber to Ryton?
Conspicuous that in order for you to emphasise your original point you chose to neglect mentioning this aspect of his game initially. I didn't imagine that.I must have missed where I suggested he couldn’t do that? Perhaps you imagined it.
My concerns with him are his lack of mobility, his defensive attributes, his age and the speed at which he can progress the ball.
He is undoubtedly very gifted on the ball, which if you’d read any of my posts on him, you would know.
How come loads of companies are already saying they have hit rid of loads of peopleNot until April
Because they are anticipating the rise along with minimum wage increase. Poor Sainsbury are sacking 3000 as they are only forecast to make in excess of £1 billion profit this year. How come loads of companies are already saying they have hit rid of loads of people
