Put yourself in Kings shoes as the owner of a loss making operation.
Robins “can I have cash for Torp, Bassette, Mason-Clark, Thomas-Asante, Binks, Dovin and Rodrigues. Can you reject offers for Simms, Wright, Van Ewijk and Sheaf.
Doug “done”.
Robins “actually forget Torp can I have more money for James now”.

That is all true but we have just offloaded Palmers wages and not replaced him with any position

Jesus we have some post window revisionism going on here.

Let’s be honest if we had signed James early in the window as our new midfielder we would all have been underwhelmed.

I can totally understand King saying no we can buy better and younger. We would all have thought we could.

However now that we haven’t and the window is shut and Sheaf has highlighted what we are missing I think James would be an ok stop gap but that’s it.

Can’t recall having a song for MJ. Do we have one to dust off or too soon to add a new one to the repertoire?

He played when there was no one there didn't he? So not much chance for anyone to make a song popular for him.

James would be a decent deal at this point , we all know he's a good footballer

The Stamenic deal falling through still has ripples. As it was so public (from RS Belgrade) we were on the verge on signing him, it became obvious to Browne he was only a 'back up' plan. The vibes were that Browne wanted to join, but then turned away when he felt slighted (understandably). We are then behind the curve with CM recruitment, took a shot at Bernede but Lausanne don't want/need to sell (owned by INEOS).
Sheaf then gets crocked and we are looking mighty thin in midfield.
We are, where we are now. But, this is an example of where the loan policy needs to be relaxed.
I think we were looking at James McConnell from Liverpool until he got unfortunately injured

How do you know what Browne was thinking? We may not even have been in for him.

Stamenic didn't want to come here, so ultimately it's irrelevant because there's no point signing a player that doesn't want to be at the club.

It depends what you consider success….

we strengthened our Keeper, out wide on both flanks, the striking options and made Binks perm.

We didn’t sell any of our key players.

we managed to offload Godden and Palmer for fees.

That’s a good window, maybe even a very good window. If we had added a great number 6 or 8 that would have made it a brilliant window.

failing to land one target doesn’t make all other progress irrelevant …..
We have 5 senior central midfielders. That's incredibly thin.

On any given matchday you're going to want 4 in the squad at a minimum. One injury (Sheaf..) and we're immediately at that limit. There's very little opportunity to rest players or take out underperforming players. And it's only likely to get worse as it becomes a feedback loop of injury, overplaying and more injuries.

The decision to sell Palmer with no one to replace his minutes is honestly shocking and overshadows the rest of our business.

Get the feeling they wouldn't post about it unless there was some substance to it. Really warming to the idea of James coming here, especially with the experience he brings in midfield. Can't do any harm even on a 2-year deal.

Robins himself said he didn't think we'd miss him and we don't - he can't play the roles we need so it's not really "honestly shocking". The more pertinent issue is the reoccurence of Sheaf's injury.
Very true. if we had signed a midfielder in the window nobody would care we had sold palmer really

Anyone with a brain could see that it would be a very good deal, were already a midfielder short before Palmer even went. Like Dougy but can't see him being that dumb surely? I can see this happening regardless

The more shocking thing is the complete about-face of some fans, from Palmer being a luxury liability to absolutely crucial to the clubs success.

This. There was noise it was longer than "2 weeks" OR back for Watford as MR said. Robins said he hurt his toe or similar after game, turner reported ankle injury recurrence

I fear we won't see him at Watford.

If he can't play the roles we need how did he play over 50% of our minutes before leaving?

No one is saying that, in a vacuum it's a good deal for us. But given how light we are in midfield we needed a body in just to play some minutes.

No I specifically read comments during the Norwich match, where people were saying we were desperate for Palmer because he would change the game.
