We had a 1.14 against Norwich and they had a 0.4 xg and we lost 1-0

They scored from a deflection which goes along with when I said we are conceding poor goals , we also conceded a deflection against Oxford at home , we also should have had a goal against disallowed against brizzle

It was a pretty unfortunate goal to concede really. Binks' clearance was poor but given the speed the ball came in there wasn't much else he could do reaction-wise. Just annoying the header fell perfectly into the feet of Sainz who was always going to score from there.

Did you go to Stoke and Bristol ?
if you did you would know this is exactly the issue with our team now. the strikers are getting no service and our midfield is inefective.

Simms was put in on goal in the first minute at Stoke and made an utter pig's ear of it with poor touches and decision making

How much pressure are you putting on Sheaf when he comes back? Far too unfair to expect one player to stay fit for all the rest of the season, we have to hope he can cope with it.
King said he’s not a footballing man, this just shows that to be dead right.

Please just read my posts. I've not actually said anywhere it's not problem area. What I'm taking issue with is posters making out that it's our only issue.

He had one chance in the first five minutes and yes he fluffed it but that was it for the game. The midfield gave him fa all game the same as Bristol and the 2nd half against Norwich

To be fair , we are not going to create loads all the time .. the game against Bristol was quite poor for both sides , Their goal should have been chalked off

Desperately short is just 5 senior midfielders for 3 spots. However will we manage.
When one is Allen who you don't really want to be starting and it remains to be seen if Rudoni can play deeper.

You then have Sheaf, Eccles, Torp competing for two spots. If any one of them is injured you don't even have a choice which pair to play so you can't rotate based on form or fitness.

If its Sheaf + Torp/Eccles that is probably a decent midfield for this level but its not top 4 material, probably between 5th-10th is where we would place that midfield on quality. If Sheaf is out it probably drops to a lower half quality midfield pairing around 14th -18th.

Not sure its desperately short but it really does feel like the missing piece of the jigsaw, if we had a top class partner for Sheaf you would be more than happy to have Eccles and Torp in reserve/to rotate based on form and fitness and then you have Allen to fill in on the bench if we have a few out with injuries.

I know we can't do everything and get everyone we want at once but the worry is that by the time we've brought in the central midfielder we want, MVE will be gone, maybe Simms and Wright will be gone and we just go round in a cycle and never have all the jigsaw pieces together at the same time.

James obviously isn't the answer but can't help but feel we will miss our chance to get promoted because this wasn't addressed.

If it wasnt for poor finishing they should have been three nil up by half time. They totally do inated the midfield and doubled up on tats as our only outlet. We were dreadful until Palmer came on and created one bit of magic to salvage a point

I don’t think letting Palmer go was a poor move at all. We got a fee for a squad player on an expiring contract and on expensive wages. It’s inconvenient for 4-5 months, but we should have greater flexibility in January with the freed up funds.

Looking at his statistical output for his whole career, we’re not massively losing out and his good start to this season shouldn’t cloud that judgement.
Yea it's a good thing for me but I guess there are always two sides to the coin... IMO you should not be letting players go on a free, especially if there are offers on the table.

I think the problem might be that so many of us have banked on promotion this season in our heads
For me the issue is - the likelyhood is our better players are going to be off. Sheaf, Wright, MVE and Possibly Simms.

then we’re going to have another 6 months of “well the new squad needs time to gel”

this year is a great opportunity, it’s not gone yet. But we’re putting ourselves at a disadvantage starting the season later than everyone else

We have essentially built a whole new squad in 12 months. Just over 12 months ago the four big players were Gyokeres, Hamer, O'Hare and Sheaf. When Sheaf, Wright, MVE and Simms leave they will bring in a lot of money and the starting point across the squad is stronger. Maybe our expectations have just been to do it all in 12 months.

Incidentally I remember when Ipswich signed about 25 players for loads of money in League 1 a couple of years back they looked nailed on for promotion but were actually pretty poor. Following that season and the players bedding in they got back to back promotions.

Tbf people have been using the gelling excuse this season when we’ve been lining up with 9/11 players who were here last season so not sure that one will ever go away.

It's so frustrating - watching Robins last couple of interviews you can tell he's waiting, like all of us,for a (sky) blue touch paper to be lit
Once the players see it & get themselves mentally right,I reckon we will see a surge 🙏

As I stated last week, and again people can believe me or not. I've seen texts from those involved

Doug has put the stop on it 100%, Robins and James wanted it.

Of course Robins is going to toe the line in a press conference he isn't stupid
Wow... your in the whatsapp chat between Doug, Robins, Matty James and Austin?

But to be fair we've lost O'Hare and Sheaf has been injured, both integral to the way we play as both willing to take the ball in tight situations, which allows us to break through a press As yet, others haven't shown such willingness or ability to do that.

Integral yet not in the side for most of two years.

Im amazed a few of you are still here and haven’t moved to Sheffield.

our up turn in form came when ohare returned last season and downturn in form when he was out and then out of form

If it wasn’t for ohare last season we would have been mid table at best

something happened for him to be dropped for the Plymouth game

before that he was flying and then after that game he was never the same player for the exception of the Leeds and Man U game

I don't even think his formed particularly dipped, I'm sure Robins just dropped him as he wouldn't sign a new contract.

I don’t think he was the same player after being left out the squad for the midweek trip to Plymouth

Leeds and Man U games he stood out but was mediocre for the final 3rd of the season

Wasn’t he left out of the Plymouth one because he’d covered something daft like 16km in a game only a few days before?

He only started 4-5 games in that final league 3rd of the season. His mediocre is better than Palmers. There was definitely something going on behind the scenes.
