Neymar will make back the transfer fee for PSG in no time, the money in football is ridiculous at the moment but you do have to consider that it's one of the most popular entertainment mediums in the entire world. For comparison, the new Spiderman film cost Sony $165m and took $654.5m at the box office. Once you account for marketing, which isn't included in the film's budget, I'd imagine Sony have made about $400m from this film so far. Is it overly ridiculous that Neymar will generate a similar amount of revenue for PSG in terms of sponsorship, prize money and, probably most importantly in the long run, increases the standing and worldwide perception of the French league? How many kids in America or China are going to start 'supporting' PSG now because Neymar plays for them? It seems a ridiculous fee to pay for one man, but from the point of view that he is an 'investment for a media industry' I can see why the fee is so high. Not to mention that PSG are being bankrolled by the actual country of Qatar I'm pretty sure and can afford to pay it.

Trouble is though deals such as this become the overall driver of player prices. It is not just about does it work for PSG. Average players become more expensive, and not all teams are backed by countries, but they do all operate in the same markets.

Nor is it just about the transfer fee there are the forces it places on financing player squad wages

How does this deal fit in with the FIFA financial fair play rules? What happens when income streams from the likes of Sky start to plateau?

Football is still about an owners ego not financial sense

    It's just Obscene IMO
And the purported wage even worse..
I just don't think he's World Class either.
No where near the level of MESSI or Ronaldo.

596 grand a week which is £1 a second. If he drops a pound coin on the floor he'd probably earn another two or three of them by the time he picks it up!

so it's 40m per year for transfer fee, basic wages around 35m per year. so 75m per year (or around 20% of their total turnover on one player). Have to imagine the knock-on effect for other PSG stars wages will be also create further problems.

Can't the owner just inject money into the club as a gift and be counted towards FFP?

Qatar have paid him a shitload to be an "Ambassador" for the 2022 World Cup, he used that money to pay his own release clause. Barca/La Liga are not amused by this loophole so who knows what's going to happen long term now.

I find all this stuff funny Barcelona moaning because somebody paid the release clause did they not do that with Suarez? Both of the big Spanish clubs are masters on unsettling players and now it's happened to them.

Neymar is a horrible little specimen, I hope Cavani took the cash and rolled it up and shoved it up Neymar's arse.

It is madness, but not as straight forward as that!
Cavani has a clause in his contract, that if he's Ligue 1 top scorer at the end of the season he gets nearly £900k, but PSG's owner's want to give him that now whether or not he's top-scorer.

Fair play to Cavani though, Neymar can't just "Shout the Loudest" and get what he wants.

He should take the cash and then next time they get a penalty refuse to give it to Neymar and keep Neymar little stooge Alves away from the ball. Did you see the image of alves holding onto the ball until Neymar could have it for a free kick?

Gotchya, found it. Alves does seem to keep the ball from Cavani then hand it to Neymar.
Fantastic footballer, Alves, but I remember some of his antics early on in his career when he was a niggly little fooker, dirty with it too.
